Marengo Ridge Golf & Country Club
About
Marengo Ridge Golf Club opened as a nine-hole course in 1963. Spread across rolling, wooded hills, the course was crafted by re-purposing an old farm. The working cattle barn was even renovated to become the clubhouse. As the golf course garnered a local following, a new nine was added in 1990. The more than 25-year difference between when the two nines were constructed give the course a unique character. The layout seamlessly blends modern techniques and classic design. The distinct topographies of each nine add even more variety. Marengo Ridge Golf Club's original nine holes weave through mature trees while the newer holes are more open and links-style. There are several tricky doglegs throughout but it isn't overly punishing if you're errant. You'll also face several water hazards and strategically placed bunkers.

Great course for the cost
At $20 for 18 on a Sunday afternoon I was worried it would play slow and I was right on that for the front 9. There was a foursome two groups in front of us that was barely moving and no course ranger to move things along. Once we got on 10 the pace picked up but ended up almost at 5 hours. That said, the weather was awesome and the group I was paired with was friendly so I really had no qualms about the slow place. I just enjoyed the weather, the company, and the game.
This was the first time at this course and I found it to be a good challenge but playable. I was able to break 100 which I was happy with, I am usually worse in unfamiliar territoriy (I usually score in lower 90's on courses I am familiar with). For me, the front nine was more challenging than the back. There was a lot of hidden water on the front nine but not there on the back.
I will definitely go back.
A wonderful day of golf
Average on pace as we had to wait on most holes as did the groups ahead of and behind us but it was not overly long. Good on course condition - the playing surface but some holes were missing ball washers, some tee boxes were not labeled well and the cart paths could use some work. The staff was very friendly. The value for the money was excellent with the deal from golf now. Didn't eat any food and only had a few canned beverages, would have liked to see a beverage cart, though we were able to get a cooler with ice. A lot more water than I remembered - probably because I was in it a couple of times. Bottom line a good golf course at a great price and I would recommend.
Enjoyable
Beautiful day and the course was in good condition. I was challenged by all the water, but it was beautiful and fun. Cart paths are rough.
Sunday Afternoon
Golfed a group of 4 on a Sunday at 10:30. Staff was great course was nice and well kept, only comaints I have is that there was a group of 6 behind us that wouldn't wait and kept teeing off when we were still in the fairways, and the club was not out driving around enough, we only saw it on the 8th and 16th hole.
Enjoy the course
Interesting design and layout. Like the sharp dogleg turns. Good green condition.
laid back contry course
Old course converted from 9 to 18 holes years ago.Greens were good.Fairways are blue grass cut very short.Beware of rocks in the very large bunkers. Not a bad course for locals, but not a destination course. Some water in play but only one forced carry on a short par3.
Golf Course
This golf course is great. Great layout and pace of play was great. It took me 2 1/2 hours to play 18 holes. I will be returning to play more.
Marengo Ridge very friendly staff.
The course itself is in pretty good condition overall except that the dirt cart paths continue to deteriorate. Only a little brownout on the 17th fairway otherwise everything was pretty green. Always exceptionally friendly staff. Quiet and peaceful course.
Wish it was closer
The course was in great shape. Greens were true and the course was nicely maintained. The only complaint I have (outside of wishing it was closer to civilization) was the pace of play. There was no ranger on the weekend and the golfers in front of me lacked etiquette. There was a guy on the course with his girlfriend and they played 2 balls apiece on every single hole. The lay-out was very fun with multiple doglegs and hole set-ups that made you think about whether to just hit driver. I would ago again if near the area.
A good value
If you live in the far west or northwest suburbs this course is an easy drive away and a good value. The greens are very true and well conditioned, if not particularly quick. The layout includes a mix of doglegs that force some lay-up shots and require a little local knowledge despite well diagrammed hole layouts on the back of the score card. The cart paths are brutal so make sure to pay close attention so as not to wrench your back.
Nice layout
Not a 4 1/2 star as stated by golf digest. No wind shield, golf bag cover, gps, etc. nice course in good condition. Would play again. Good value
Unique Course
a lot of hidden shots and dog legs. Short par 4s with options to lay up or go for it. Pins were in tough locations making puts fun and frustrating at the same time. They could update carts but score cards has the lay ups and yardage to help.
Fun layout
The layout and variety of each hole makes this course a pleasure to play.
A day at Marengo Ridge
A challenging course with a fun layout. If you're not careful it's like a day at the beach with the traps.
Worth the price
The staff was friendly. Course was maintained very good. It is a challenge for a novice player.
Cart paths need a little work.
All and all will play again.
Incredible Value
Marengo Ridge is a hidden gem that all readers must play. The course was in great shape with my only complaint being that the greens very pretty hard compared to the rest of the course. Play moved along pretty well and I was allowed to play through every time I came up on a slower moving group. I finished the round walking in 3 hours. Mostly locals playing during the week.
Marengo ridge
Great, challenging course that was in excellent condition. Pace of play pretty slow - 2 hours 45 minutes for the front 9. I had a single tee time, and I wish I would have been placed into a 3-some or 2- some that were ahead of me. Other GolfNow courses I've tried always put me with someone else.
Very challenging
Great course, a real challenge with all the obstacles. I really enjoy it. Cart paths could use some help
Bunkers
The only thing I would like to see improved is the bunkers. There is more rock and gravel in the bunkers then sand. Other then that the course is a great place to play especially for the money!
Gem in the country
My first time playing this course will turn into many more times. Good course layout and easy to navigate for first timer. Course was well maintained with fairways cut just so. It is a good looking course with mature trees and well kept greens, which were fast. I liked the scorecard having each hole showing on the back of the card with distances to specific areas of each hole. I will definitely play this course again and bring my fellow golfing buddies along so they can enjoy as well.
