Course was in good shape, the pace of play was fantastic in that we played in 3 hours. We are mid to high handicappers so all courses are a challenge, but this course is fair. For the time of year the course is in good shape.
The course is in fantastic condition
I had not played this course in years. Narrow fairways will challenge most golfers. Course in Great shape greens are medium to fast and run true. I really enjoyed playing here, so much so that I'm coming back again next week. A hidden gem.
Painfully slow
Surprise February weather led everyone and their brother to come out for a round. There were groups on the tee sheet every 10 min which led to a 5:15 round. Acknowledging the course wouldn't be in the best condition in Feb, the fairways were decent, greens understandably bumpy in spots. No rakes for bunkers, so by the afternoon everything was all ripped up. Annoyingly, no tee markers, no trash cans out. No marshal to push groups to move it along. Holes are pretty close together, so lots of errant shots.
Seemed a bit steep in price compared to other local options the same day. Wanted to try a new course, but don't think I'll come back.
A classic gem
This always lives up to the standards it's been setting for decades. The greens are in great shape as are the fairways and they even take the time to blow the leaves Into the rough. I played this course a few times a season and I never get tired of it.
Old school course
The course was in good shape for the time of season. Greens were true and fairways in decent shape. There wasn't any sand on the cart to repair divots though....replace your own I guess. There was some water to get you in trouble but not overwhelming. Overall it was challenging and fun. The greens fee with cart was around $43 ea....not bad for prime time.
Not worth the money
The course design was awful. Every hole is on top of each other. Going from the 3rd green to the 4th tee we realized we were driving across another fairway while a group was trying to hit.
The course was in decent shape but the idea that we payed $68 to play is a joke. I wouldn't pay more than $45-50 at the most, even on a weekend.
Less Than Expected
Weather was 90 degrees. No beverages on course. No starter or marshals on the course. Course is very poorly marked as for distances, water hazards etc. The GPS is archaic at best. Luckily I had my own GPS to navigate. The rough just off the fairways and greens were ridiculously long. People searching for balls in rough slowed down play. Many singles and twosomes should have been paired together. The positive is the greens were terrific. One of the best in area. Many other courses in area are a better value.
US Open??
Course was nice but the rough was tall. Anything off the fairway would stop immediately. Sometimes you could be a couple yards off the green and need 5 minutes to find your ball.
Nice course & value, but fairly slolw pace of play
Haven't played this course in over a decade, but still like it. Shorter, but still very challenging. Tight fairways and good greens. Only complaint is the pace of play was slow, especially on the front 9. Not sure why, but front is/was painfully slow. Back 9 much better.
Sleeper in Mt. Prospect
I had never played here before but enjoyed it. Course was in very good position and pace of play was awesome, finished in 3.5 hours. Not a lot of length but back tees allowed for a good enough challenge with some tight fairways and difficult doglegs. Greens were fast / hard but fair.
Some holes too close
If the price is right, I like to golf at Old Orchard. But when the course is running slow, it moves very slow. There are some holes such as 8 that crosses other holes from the back nine. You really have to watch for golfers on the tee.
Average
Cart died on first hole. Course poorly marked, not much signage. That wouldn't have been a problem, but GPS showed mostly ads, kept 'searching' most of the time. Had only two water coolers on the course, not very smart. Nice greens and fairways, very polite staff.
Average
This course was in decent condition and we were able to play 18 holes in less than four hours. I was not crazy about the layout but not a bad day for the money.
Nice course, tough fairways
I enjoyed the course stuggled with the 15th hole, par 3s were pretty challenging nice course when the price is right.
bad communications
would have liked to know there was an outing in front of us when I signed in at the pro shop
Ok
It was the first nice day in Illinois so it was very busy, which is to be expected. Groups weren't being put together so we had 2 foursomes, followed by 2, followed by 1, followed by 2, followed by my threesome. The players ahead of us were regularly playing 3 balls and there was no one keeping pace of play. First 9 took us 3.5 hours, we played the front again instead of back and it took us about an hour and fifteen minutes.
I will return
Everything you want in a staple course. Unexpectedly challenging.
Old Orchard needs a New Face Lift
Punched greens, water in every bunker and hole and, leaves everywhere made this course very unpleasant to play. On top of that, the play was extremely slow. Maybe for $10 it would be a good value but not at $20 and certainly not at $35-40. Sad to see a high $ course so poorly maintained. 3/10.
Eight-somes!!!
I booked my tee-time as a single. I was supposed to be matched up with a threesome in twenty minutes. But a six-some came to the tee and suggested that I tee off in front of them because they were very bad golfers. So I teed off and played four holes before another single played through the six-some and joined me. But it turned out that we were stymied because there were multiple eight-somes out on the course. It must have been some sort of eight-some tournament. My round was miserable. My partner and I skipped holes as best we could to bypass the multiple logjams. Bottom line: I'd like to see some new policy implemented that warns golfers of tournaments that impacts speed of play. I've never encountered eight-somes other than at Old Orchard. It will be a long time before I consider playing Old Orchard again.
