Didn't Love It
This is a short, narrow, tree-lined course. Typical par four is 350 yards. Par is 70. The 18 holes are on top of each other, tee boxes adjacent and fairways separated by a thin tree line. Big hitters who spray with hooks/slices won't have a lot of breathe easy holes here. Even fades and draws find tree branches. I didn't find anything particularly enjoyable or memorable about the course. It was a narrow challenge, that's for sure. To me, the holes all blend together in my memory as short narrow doglegs. I did find it to be well maintained. Not fancy by any stretch. The $55 GolfNow rate was also available direct through Old Orchard website for a Saturday teetime. So not sure how this was any deal. I won't be back.
Weekend twilight
The twilight rate is good, but I wouldn't pay their regular rates to play. The sprinklers were on at 4, 5, and 6pm on various holes, but it was 85 or 90 degrees and sunny out. At that temp, half of the water evaporates before it ever even has a chance to get into the ground. That was annoying. They should run the sprinklers at night. They'd save money and not create obstacles for the golfers.
Accuracy is Key
This a beautiful and well maintained course - some tricky holes, which get trickier if you dont hit a good tee shot.
Greens are challenging and in great condition.
Very nice course, well maintained. Can be challenging if you're not on the fairway.
I liked this course!
Sidenote: I took notice of how clean the bathroom was on the course, nice touch if you have to use it.
Good track will challenge you without being too difficult
Faitways and greens in very nice condition.. This is a pretty narrow track and they let the rough grow so if you missed the fairway you always had to take at least 1 more club to dig it out and make the green. Made for a good challenge.
Wish they had a beverage cart on the course as it was pretty warm day and could have used a few refills.
It is a bit more expensive than other local comparable courses so I would not play it all the time. The value is not as high.
Quick smooth greens, shaggy fairways, real rough, not enough sand in traps
Traditional parkland course with mature trees. Super friendly staff. Quick smooth smallish contoured greens, shaggy fairways, real rough, not enough sand in traps. Pace of play slower than expected. Decent layout with a half dozen memorable holes. GPS on carts. Multiple tee locations accommodate golfers of all skill and length levels. Would play it again with GolfNow discount, closely mowed fairways, and another inch of sand over the hard base.
Fantastic day!
The course played exceptionally well. Greens were quick. Staff was super friendly. Food was great. I will be going back several times this summer as it was a fantastic value and a well maintained course.
Nice course, I always enjoy it...challenging without being crazy hard
Nice well kept course, challenging without being crazy
Lots of water, Course was in good shape.
Nice course, water comes into play on numerous holes. Some interesting holes. Good condition.
Nice course, well maintained.
Nice course, well maintained. A little on the shorter side, but challenging. I'd definitely play there again.
They sell too many tee times
We played this course yesterday and it took just under 5 1/2 hours to complete the round. There were two foursomes on the third tee when we got there. It is a short course and it gets backed up frequently.
the overall condition of golf course was good .
They maintained course very well. But one thing is not good, that is , it is not easy to find each hole. When we finish
one hall ,we had a difficulties to fine next hall because there was no clear dirction mark.
Great golf, close by.
Older course, that is well maintained. Narrow fairways, makes it challenging. Trees are always in play, at least for me. Good luck !
Good start to the year, needs some change though
This is the 3rd time playing here in the last 3 years and the only negative I would say is that almost every green is the same with a downhill/uphill putt. Few are flat and you can make the reads, but every hole slopes from back to front and it gets old.
However, the layout does vary and has some challenging holes. Given the time of the year, the course was in good shape.
It is a good track
I played the course early in the year and the grass had not yet grown in and the cleanup was not yet finished. I found the greens tricky with a lot of undulation front to back-stay under the hole if possible. The course plays long from the blue tees, especially on a cool spring day-most will find the course challenging enough from the white tees. Would love to come back later in the year when the course is grown in, however, the course will probably be real crowded at the popular tee times.
Mashies and Spoons
This course feels like it was built when people were playing mashie and spoons. It is TIGHT! From the tips you rarely need a driver so pull it and put the extra wedge in the bag so you can feel like Phil. 3 wood of the tee on the long ones will suffice. Old Orchard needs to cut the rough down. If you go off into the trees... which you will do... good luck finding your ball. If you lost it off the fairway treat it like a lateral hazard. If you don't you'll definitely be boning up on your stroke and distance rule for lost balls and playing 5.5 hour round. CUT THE ROUGH OOCC!
Strike this Course from the List
This is another course that needs to be written-off. My girlfriend and I played this course, and we never finished. After 6 hours (yes, that's right....6 hours!!!!), we finally decided to quit on hole 14. It was unbearably slow. There we no rangers to be seen, and people were hitting all over the place, making the place an actual shooting range. Singles were sporadically jumping holes right in front of us, and a ranger was nowhere to be seen and no one answered when trying to call the club house. The condition was average and the layout was equally unimpressive. Pick a different course. There are better courses out there who charge less and are better maintained and managed.
Course in Great Shape-Alway's Fun
Fall golf, You get what You pay for right? Wrong, Old Orchard keep's the course maintained even in November! The only thing missing were rake's for the bunker's and tee box markers.
Old style course. Small greens. Tree lined fairways.
Need to keep in fairways. Rough and trees punish bad shots. Play can be slow.
good value when on specials.
this course is usually in great shape....but doesn"t take rain very well. very sporty golf course.
