That rough though and pricey!
Rough=just missed the fairway. I'm telling you it was at least 7inches and looked freshly cut. Had to be my worst experience missing the fairway by 3 inches. Please trim it down! There's a restaurant/ bar attached which seemed pretty nice. Don't be expect a hotdog or brat though if you tee off in the early morning. It's your typical park district ran course except for the $61 price per round. Heritage Bluffs is way nicer and only 5 minutes away and they charge $70 a round. Layout was cool, greens were tight off and on. Each green played different from the next. One hole don't remember which, maybe 7th or 8th had this large fan oscillating left to right. I was like hey that's cool considering it was about 100 degrees on father's day. Until I stepped onto the green. It felt as if I was walking on 6inch plush carpet? Weird! All in all it's definitely a challenging course for sure. Just make sure you hit your fairways!!! Oh and my last piece of advice. Make sure you open the men's room door slowly or you'll hit someone washing their hands! Lol
This course has potential
The greens are terrible to putt on...very slow...so you cant properly read them...they dont break as much as they look, the ball bounces literaly back and forth to the hole...as big as these greens are they should be much faster...to many long two putts because its not natural to hit a putt so hard....the time and effort to create great greens would be well worth it on this course because its a good layout... it dosnt have to be 11 on the stemp to be great to putt on...but these greens are terrible...and save the excuses...not interested...
Nice Surprise
great deal on friday play. had to try it with a friend who lives near by. friendly staff, nice course, good pace considering how crowded it was. a little to far for me to play regularly but still a great course/value.
Course is in good shape and the pace of play was good.
good golf for the money
rangers should move the slow pace along
Bonus Late February Round
Hadn't been to Fox Bend in over two decades. Anywhere outside of Oswego/Aurora this is one the most difficult golf courses to get to - far from expressways and you have to fight suburban traffic all the time. Fox Bend is average track at best. A couple of interesting holes but otherwise basically your mid 60's parkland design that doesn't have you wanting to come back to it time and time again. Each year I look at the rates and the tee sheet - always too crowded or overly expensive for what you get....just a decently maintained golf course. Does have a warm up range. Restaurant bar under renovation/very dated clubhouse. Push open the men's room door slowly - otherwise you'll wack somebody washing their hands at the sink. Course was surprisingly not too soggy and the greens weren't all that bumpy and actually fairly playable. We finished in slightly over 4.5 hours but we had a turtle foursome of young guys holding up the entire back nine. So if you're into really crowded summer 5 hour plus rounds....fighting suburban weekend shopping traffic to get there and want pay $35 plus and usually more to play a completely average track please have at it. I'd also suggest avoiding this place if there are strong south to southwest breezes....most of the track plays dead into these winds. For variety Fox Bend is worth a play maybe once a year (guy in the proshop was really nice and welcoming) but I probably won't return to it this season. Just too many other tracks to play which are easier to get to, less crowded, a better value and more inspiring. Back in the late 70's it was a fun track but there were far fewer venues to consider.
winter golf
only negative- no windshields on carts adds to wind chill
Slow and soggy
On a positive note, the greens were really rolling nicely. The course was very wet from last weekend’s rain which was understandable, but it took THREE HOURS to play nine holes. There was no ranger or marshal to move pace of play along. This is way too long!!! I may go back to use the range, chipping, and putting areas, but will be hard pressed to book another 18 holes at Fox Bend.
Feels like the first time
Hadn’t played Fox Bend in years due to course conditions and pricing. Seems that has been sorted out. Conditions were prime and price was fair for Fall Golf on a Saturday.
9/24/17 Review
Course was in excellent shape. Great time to go when both bears and Cubs playing!
Everyday is a good day to golf (in this course)!
Great course! Most of the holes are relatively easy - can't get into too much trouble when you stray from the fairway; a few of the holes can be very challenging, especially when "going for it." Very well kept overall. Players need to fix their divots properly in the greens though. Friendly and accommodating staff - they'll try to squeeze you in as best as possible when no other activities (e.g. tournament or school practice) are going on.
There was a chance of rain but, it turned out perfect!
The tees - fairways & greens are in great shape for the end of September. We hooked up with another twosome and had a fun day. We let a single play thru on #2 and #9. The pace was great and never seen another group close to us. The Ranger Joel kept things moving all day. We'll be back again.
Nice Course
I have played this course many times. And today it played just as well as it has in the past. We had an earlier tee time so we did not get too bogged down with the golfers ahead of us. Overall the course condition was above-average to excellent. Fairways and greens were in really good shape. The sand in the bunker was so light and fluffy that I was able to get a fried egg. Ha. Greens rolled really well. We played today as a Hot deal so our cost was below what they normally charge. That's my only complaint. Fox Bend prices itself out of my weekly considerations.
Staff was super friendly!!!!! Only complaint it that players left a lot divots on the greens and didn't fix them. Other than that, no complaints at all. We had a great time.
