Nice Local Track with Friendly Staff
Really enjoyed playing here. Nothing repetitive. Starter was nice enough to let us start on 10 to avoid the small senior scramble that was on 1-9 moving over to 10. We just tee'd off in time. 3:20 round! Thanks
One of my favorite courses
As usual course in great condition. From tee to greens one of the best conditioned courses in Chicago area.
Fox Bend Review
Really enjoy Fox Bend. Got a good deal. But showed and saw on the Pro Shop door that the greens had been aerated earlier that week. The fella I was paired with described them as "shaggier than my dog." Found them to be very slow and inconsistent from green to green. While I get some of this was just part of the aeration process, I couldn't understand why they hadn't been cut seemingly all week. Was more disappointed in GolfNow.com for not alerting me to this course condition prior to my round or my purchase. Inquired in the pro shop as to why that information wasn't posted on the website--as I know that's been done in the part--and while the Pro Shop attendant admitted to aerating 3-4 weeks earlier than usual he didn't take any accountability. He said I should either log my complaint with GolfNow.com or call the pro-shop in advance to check course conditions. Wondered: "Isn't that what GolfNow.com is trying to prevent?" Food service wasn't very good either. The usual food stop was closed and the bartenders in the bar weren't very friendly or helpful. In fact, the guy I played with was charged for 6-beers after only ordering 3 due to a computer glitch. It's a good course. But I was left with a really poor experience.
If it were closer, I'd play more often
I returned after several years. I was glad that my single partner was familiar with the course--it was a little challenging to figure out targets, especially on longer holes with doglegs. The greens were in good shape (hope all the golfers repair divots). It was a great deal on GolfNow.
Good value good course
I booked as a single and was told I could move up my tee times by the staff in the pro shop. I used the driving range to warm up and practiced chipping and putting these facilities were in good shape. I moved to the 1st tee 40 minutes ahead of my scheduled tee time and asked the starter who said he had an opening right away. I met three good golfers who played together regularly they were friendly and treated me well. I would recommend this course to all golfers we played the blue tees one in from the tips and course was a good challenge for me as an 8 handicap. The course was in good shape even though the weather was hot and dry. The greens rolled true and I had a pretty good putting round. I was glad to be paired with a group who knew the course. The front nine is pretty straight forward but on the back their are a couple holes that require some local knowledge mainly 16, 17 and 18. I was able to shoot two over on the front with 15 puts but on the back I struggled coming in with a double bogey on 18, I was not comfortable with that tee shot mainly because I wanted to hit driver but the carry over a creek was 269 and I carry it about 20 yards less so I hit three wood and pulled it into the hazard on the left. Next time I will aim farther to the right and possibly club down to a three iron/hybrid. It was nice to see a cart person about three times on each nine I am used to them only showing up once or twice per round. I also found the pro shop staff to be very friendly and courteous making sure I knew where the range was and that the tee times were fairly light and I could move up if I wanted to. The starter was also very friendly when I asked to move up he also had a good relationship with the threesome I mad and asked them politely if I could join them. The threesome I joined were regulars there and made sure I knew where to go and had no problems allowing me to go last so that I could see where their shots went. When the round was over I shook hands with my group and drove to the parking lot some courses don't allow that and it was nice to be able to save a few steps after a hot round. The round we played in was about 4 and a half hours. It would have played faster but they had an outing in front of us and the tee time was around 1PM in the afternoon. I would have expected it to take longer so I was very happy with the pace of play. If I had one thing that I could improve it would be the practice tees on the driving range. I found the teeing area to be a bit un-level mainly somewhat uphill with the ball above my feet. This caused me to hit a lot of fat shots warming up but I eventually got it straightened out on the golf course. This was my first time playing the course and I was very pleased with a 38 on the front nine. The back nine as I said required more experience but I was pleased shooting a 40 for a total of 78 a couple strokes better than my eight handicap. I did not eat there although there were plenty of opportunities to grab a bite. I rated the food as good to go along with the rest of the pleasant ratings that I gave to the other categories. In conclusion I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a challenging golf course in good condition. There are a lot of choices to tee off from and I felt that the blue tees at a little over 6400 yards were perfect for my game. I will definitely play there again especially if I can get another "hot deal" where I saved money about 4 dollars compared to what the locals had to pay.
SLOW
5 hour round many rangers out on course couldn't go through anyone was myself and 1 friend both single digit handicaps teed off at 1237 didn't get done til 530
Excellent Course
Fox Bend is an excellent course. Its in the best shape I've ever seen it with a fantastic pace of play
Relaxing evening 9
Stopped in after work to squeeze in 9 holes. There was a little bit of a back up with foot golf going off the front. I went around to the back and had to wait for a few groups to go through, but I wasn't in a hurry and a walk on, so that can be expected. Once out on the course, things stayed moving. I was able to play the back 9 in about an hour and forty five minutes. Course was in great shape, friendly staff, nice experience.
Value for the Money
Unless you can find a good deal on Golf Now, the course is not worth the price. Course was in good shape with a few marked off areas that did not bother play. I followed a seniors' league so it was a little slow going. The snack window at the turn was close with a sign on it saying if needed something go into the restaurant.
Hidden Gem
A buddy and I were looking for a course in the Naperville area, not too hard, that we hadn't played before. Fox Bend fit the bill perfectly. 6000 yards and 121 slope from the Gold tees. Wide fairways, beautiful condition. Got there early, teed off early, finished in 3hrs, 20min. We'll be returning to this course!
Good walk not spoiled
A beautiful day for my first round of the year. The staff was very friendly and the course was in good shape. My only complaints were that there was a fivesome in front of us who were not in much of a hurry to keep pace of play moving and there was not enough sand in the bunkers..
Fox Bend
Fox Bend is owned by the park district and THEY really have over rated themselves. They are always on you about your length of play... 4hours and 5 mins is taking too long.... You better be a Pro playing a at park district course.
Awesome track!
For a park district course VERY VERY NICE! Gets expensive towards the summer though.
Very nice course, greens in excellent shape for early April
Very nice course, greens in excellent shape for early April. Most fairways were also very nice, couple of them were a little brown
Great GolfNow deal...
It's hard to be critical of the course conditions this early in the spring, so when I say the greens were inconsistent speeds, keep that in mind. Other than that, $28 for 18 w/ a cart is a great deal by any standard.
This course used to be much more expensive to play, but they've brought their rates down over the last couple years, which makes it more attractive. Overall it's worth playing, if you get it for the right price.
Fox Bend
Great course for a novice and semi-expert. I had a great time!
A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
Course was beautiful and well kept. It is definitely a fun course with a variety of challenges. Due partially to an outing without ranger assistance, there was a very slow pace. It was 51/2 hours for a twosome, and we finally packed it in on the 15th hole, excrutiating... and no-one cared. Even the starter was inefficient and clueless.
As mediocre as I remember
We played on a Hot Deal - it was barely worth the $23 apiece for 18. The layout of the course, however, was as mediocre as I remember but we could not pass up the price. Despite the windy weather followig an evening of heavy rain, the course was in good shape and played fairly well.
Professional, courteous helpful
Very scenic course. Enjoyed the scenery. Well kept course. Friendly staff. Welcoming atmosphere. Great place to play round of 9 or 18! Would recommend to anyone!
