not quite spring time Photo submitted by snareg on 03/09/2015
Nice but too far
First time playing at Acorn. Green were in excellent condition. However, if you don't know the course, there are lots of blind shots. From downtown St. Louis, there are nicer courses closer. Probably will not make an effort to go back
Excellent Course
This was a really nice course that is player friendly because of the lack of trees. The fairways, rough, and greens were in really good shape compared to courses I have played this year. Will be back
Good Value
Greens are in excellent shape, rolling well and moderately fast (golfers, PLEASE repair your ballmarks. I fixed at least 3 on every green). Fairways starting to get brown, but overall course is in good condition.
Fun course. Fairly short, several severe doglegs that require layups, several lakes.
Excellent staff, nice clubhouse.
Nice course, good value
Greens and fairways in very good condition, especially for this time of year. The course layout is a nice mix of holes you can score on and very challenging holes with high level of difficulty. Amenities were very good and a nice menu is available for after your round. Have played here several times and will definitely be back.
Very good experience
The course itself was in very good shape, considering the heavy rains the day before. Surprisingly picturesque for its edge of a cornfield location. Friendly staff and patrons. Easy access hitting range. Very busy day for them and yet the 18: hole pace was excellent with an 8:09 tee time.
Great Greens!
I was really impressed with the condition and pace of the greens. Awesome!
Outstanding Value!
For those of looking for a great course to play close to the St. Louis Metro area, look no further. . . Acorn's offers one of the best layouts and off-course amenities with course conditions that are second to none. We love the layout of this course and generally play the course once or twice a year. After our most recent visit we are convinced the 30 minute drive is well worth the visit compared to (most) other St. Louis area courses. Try it soon, you won't be disappointed.
Great Golf Course
Was impressed at the condition and challenges this course offers.
Course in great shape.would play again.l would recommend playing this. Course.
Best value in STL area
The combination of clean course, lower pricing and some challenging holes makes this the best bang for your buck in the STL area.
Big Mixup through GolfNow and course
Made a tee time through Golf Now for 12:06 but did not get started until 12:45 because the course had a big tournament going on that was running late. The day before I called the course and they said we would not have any problems getting off on time.
Course needs TLC
About a 40min drive from St. Louis city we’d hoped to find a diamond in the rough. What we found was a course with a lot of potential, but neglect seems to have won out. Clubhouse was terrific. Full bar, extensive food menu (compared to just burgers and brats), there were several small events going on in the two private rooms (baby shower when we checked in and birthday party when we left), the clubhouse is great with wood floors and inviting bar type feel.
The greens were in great shape. Some very difficult with two and three tiers, others more flat but challenging due to green depth. Fairways were hard. It’s early in the season but seems they could use water. Almost every cartpath had huge cracks in the concrete, some several inches in height/depth. Several holes had areas under construction where a shot in the rough placed you on hard dirt with grass patches. Other areas the rough was nice and thick which penalized a wayward tee shot.
Many of the par 4s were doglegs which necessitated a 200-220 Tee shot with 150ish left to the green. A few holes were poorly planned as even a perfect tee shot to the landing area left you with an awkward or even obstructed approach. One hole in particular necessitated a tee shot landing in a 20x20 spot to have a remote shot over water into the green. Anything else funneled drastically downhill to hard dirt/behind trees.
Many tee boxes did not leave a two club length area behind the tees without the tee box dropping off (unhittable) slope.
All in all a nice course with some nice scenic views (waterfalls etc) but the playability wasn’t the best. For the distance away from St. Louis and the condition of the course, I’ll probably not play here again.
Course in good condition for early spring.
Course in good condition for early spring. Went on a crowded day. Moved along well. Greens above average condition.
Very nice
Try this course - you'll like it. Nice layout and exceptionally maintained, well worth the 30 minute drive from the St. Louis area. Staff was very friendly and the food was good.
Always enjoy playing here.
Staff excellent. Tee boxes awesome! Greens wonderful. Very enjoyable round.
Friendly staff
hard to find first hole
need to know the course due to blind shots on some holes
some holes harmed by uneven turf / ground that should be under repair
some bunkers had no sand/washed out
two-some in front of me practiced putting on the green several times as i waited to shoot.
Seems to be geared for regulars/members.
Cheap beer was nice. $3/ domestic
