St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - Joe Jemsek Course
About
There are two championship golf courses available at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago as well as a top-ranked practice center. The Joe Jemsek Course, formerly known as the Lakewood, was added in 1929, three years after the club opened. Unlike the original St. Andrews Course, the Joe Jemsek Course has a hillier terrain. Although it is shorter than the other golf course at 6,770 yards, the elevation changes make it seem similar in length to the 6,920-yard St. Andrews Course. The course features tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers, offering plenty of challenges but overall it is not an overly intimidating layout for beginners. There are several long and demanding par 3s throughout. The best example being the tricky second hole, which has a green that is guarded by two deep bunkers and towering trees.

Where My 2nd Shot Landed Photo submitted by DavePipitone on 07/25/2017
Good Value
St. Andrews offers two Parkland courses providing a fair test for golfers of varied ability. I especially enjoy playing here in the Spring and Fall, when the greens are being rolled but the courses are not yet being watered; when the greens are firm, both courses really shine. The friendly course staff, first-rate Proshop and world-class practice facilities all combine to make St. Andrews a good value for the discerning golfer.
everything was green. greens were good. fairways . played well.Had a good time. Glenn
Nice course. Over booked...
I made a reservation not knowing that there was an outing in progress. I was never told. I found myself as a single between foursomes... I had to walk off after 7 holes as I felt like I was pressuring the group in front of me and frustrating the group behind me. Not enjoyable at all...
Nice course and I am sure it would have been fine had the outing not been in progress. I would have appreciated being told and frankly probably should not have been let out knowing this.
Enjoyable Round
Great to get out on a beautiful day. Course had challenges and we had an enjoyable round.
Course in Great Shape
We played the Jemsek course (Lakewood). It was in good condition, the greens were in good shape, no recent aeration and they were quick. They could have been a little smoother but all in all in good shape. A couple of dastardly hole locations. Played the white tees which was about 6400. That brought most of the par 5's into two shot range - which is fun. I got a great golf now price and can highly recommend the course at that price.
Good test of golf for amateurs
I'v played this course many times over the past 5 years. The fairways are in great shape. The greens were fast and firm and undulating. The bunkers were in good shape and the rough is growing in after the winter season. The par 3's are long for me. Most of the par 5's are reachable in 2 if you can hit 250 yard drives. Holes 3, 17, and 18 require shots over water which could be a challenge for beginner golfers. In fact if you are a beginner golfer the course could play a little hard.
great february course
I have played St. Andrews many many times. It never disappoints. February golf, good weather, great price ($20..hot deals). Grounds crew even tended to the sand traps..in February.
Great Job St. Andrews
The pace was swift as fall was setting in, the biggest challenge this time of year is finding your ball amongst the fallen leaves.
Jensen course
Typical parkland course. Good helping of longer par 4's.
Fall Golf
Fairways and greens were great. Lot of leaves in the rough. that is my only reason for the 4 star review of the course condition
Leaves
Played here many times - no water on the course except at the halfway house, which is not halfway. We played through the group in front of us at the halfway house, which is adjacent to the 7th hole at the Jemsek course. As a result, it was the 1st time I ever golfed with no water, and therefore could not eat my sandwich. We spent quite a bit of time looking for our balls (three guys, single digit handicaps) as there were leaves all over the course. I realize that it is that time of year but this was rediculuos. They should use leaf blowers and ny guess is they have them all at Cog Hill, their featured courses. The two other courses I played this week have plenty of trees and we did not have this problem. BUMMER.
Horrible Experience
A round shortened by inconsiderate golfers who drive carts on tees and greens. I was a single, and these 2 significantly older gentlemen, who apparently must have owned the course since they were driving on the greens, wouldn't let me play through as single. There was a ranger who asked how my round was, stated my case, and he drove off the other way.
I felt honored to play 8 holes in almost 2 1/2 hours as a single behind the owners of the course.
I left after 9 holes because there is no need to add more frustration to a frustrating game.
Won't be back after that experience. Too many other courses that actually care about all of their guests.
this course has two swan at parking lot to welcome you
4+ stars in general
very good 19th hole worth 5 stars.
beautiful scene of swans staying.
Nice course
Not a bad track, this course gets a lot of play but they manage to keep it in good shape, Got held up by a 5 some a few weeks ago and got no help from the rangers.
We are very sorry to hear about your experience. We would like to talk to you about your round. Please call me.
