St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - Joe Jemsek Course
About
There are two championship golf courses available at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago as well as a top-ranked practice center. The Joe Jemsek Course, formerly known as the Lakewood, was added in 1929, three years after the club opened. Unlike the original St. Andrews Course, the Joe Jemsek Course has a hillier terrain. Although it is shorter than the other golf course at 6,770 yards, the elevation changes make it seem similar in length to the 6,920-yard St. Andrews Course. The course features tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers, offering plenty of challenges but overall it is not an overly intimidating layout for beginners. There are several long and demanding par 3s throughout. The best example being the tricky second hole, which has a green that is guarded by two deep bunkers and towering trees.

Where My 2nd Shot Landed Photo submitted by DavePipitone on 07/25/2017
Worth the money
Very well maintained course. Good pace of play. The green is a little bit too slow though
Old school track w wide fairways
Great day for golf at St. Andrews played Labor Day weekend Saturday late am finished in 3hrs and 45 mins, rangers and starters here are not afraid to do they're job. Excellent practice facility too adjacent to the course. Great value always.
Quite challenging for me
I've played this course several times over the past 7 years. It was in as good a condition as ever. Greens were fast, fairways in excellent condition for a public course, rough was not overbearing, and tee boxes were fine. the final 4 finishing holes which includes (2) par 5's, a long par 4, with 2 of the fairways you need to hit over water, were very challenging.
Nice course. Great condition. Pace if play was ok until 8th hole. Inexplicably it we backed up 3 groups. It worked out but it was strange.

Great value
Not a tricky course, but enough challenge there for your average golfer. Well maintained, even after a couple of days of rain.
I'll be back to check out course #1 after having played course #2.
The staff are uptight (frank policy) to the point of being condasendinv about golfnow. The layout of pretty good bit the greens are pretty rough. If you get a good hot deal it's worth it if not there are better courses. Pace of play at this course is a serious problem.
Nice Course, Great Finishing Holes
We played on a Tuesday afternoon. The pace was good, the greens and fairways were in great shape, the tee boxes a were little hard. I would have given the course difficulty a relatively easy rating (the par 5's are relatively short.) Then we got to 17 and 18, two great finishing holes. 17 is a par five. I hit a great drive, but still had nearly 250 yards to clear the water in 2. You have to clear water on your approach shot on both holes.
Challenging Course
Tee boxes, fairways, greens, and bunkers all in pretty good shape. Greens are fast and undulating. Par 3s are tough and the last 4 holes are quite challenging, having to go over water on both 17 and 18.
Good average course
Played the Lakewood course. Course in excellent condition except most sand traps like concrete. Could not believe the foursome behind us playing loud music while golfing. Very annoying with no action taken by rangers
Thank you for your comments. We take loud music on the course very seriously. If you are not able to get the attention of the starter, please do not hesitate to call the pro shop. 630.231.3100 ext. 114 - It's very possible that a ranger driving by did not hear the music due to the noise of his own cart.
Beautiful Course in Great Shape!
I played the Lakeview Course on Monday, July 24. Although a little damp from the big rains on Sunday, the fairways and greens were in excellent condition. I nearly eagled #7 (par 4) with a spectacular second shot. (See photo.)
The practice center is one of my favorites - two areas with grass tees, two chipping greens and a putting green.
I heartily recommend this course and would play again, no questions asked.
A great day at Lakewood Course at St. Andrews
Noon tee time on a hot sunny and windy day. Played the Lakewood course (I think commonly referred to as the inside course) at St. Andrews. 3 of us playing and we actually were able to start a little early. Foursome ahead of us at the start then around the turn a group of 3 walking teenagers (good players) caught us so we let them play through. Excellent service by the cart lady and we needed some cold beverages to get through. Course was in great shape, rough not unfair at all., greens where super fast with some tough pin locations (hills, dips/valleys in the green). Challenging as is the water you encounter on 17 and 18 (it's a distance thing) Will definitely play again either course!!!! Oh and cart #100 was a speedy one!
Perfect Day/Great Round
The weather was perfect and course was in very good condition, especially considering that we played immediately after an outing ended. Course provides an interesting array of challenges. Generally flat, but several holes with water and trees. The greens are challenging with many slopes and breaks and very quite fast. Truly enjoyed the day!
Hi Brian,
We're sorry that you did not have a great experience. As we politely explained, we have had problems with hot deal golfers checking in very early & then trying to tee off much earlier than their booked t-time. We gave you your cart key so that you could load up your clubs, go the range, etc. We issue the ticket for the starter 20-30 minutes prior, to prevent hot deal golfers from trying to tee off before their booked t-time. We ask you to check in with the starter 10 minutes ahead of t-time so that we can keep the tee on time. Our golfers really appreciate an on-time tee. We are sorry that your frustration with not getting your ticket earlier ruined your experience. Our other reviews from this week state that the course is actually in great shape. Thank you for your feedback.
