St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - Joe Jemsek Course
About
There are two championship golf courses available at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago as well as a top-ranked practice center. The Joe Jemsek Course, formerly known as the Lakewood, was added in 1929, three years after the club opened. Unlike the original St. Andrews Course, the Joe Jemsek Course has a hillier terrain. Although it is shorter than the other golf course at 6,770 yards, the elevation changes make it seem similar in length to the 6,920-yard St. Andrews Course. The course features tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers, offering plenty of challenges but overall it is not an overly intimidating layout for beginners. There are several long and demanding par 3s throughout. The best example being the tricky second hole, which has a green that is guarded by two deep bunkers and towering trees.

Tough greens
Coarse was in great shape and very challenging , loved it
Jemsek course
Good course for the intermediate amateur player. Enjoy playing both courses.
Great course
I played both courses at st andrews and both were outstanding and u cant beat the price for the courses u get to play just absolutely amazing ill be going there many times this summer
Nice time.
Great time golfing with family. Course in pretty good shape. Some rough patches on greens but it is early season. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Had a foursome of drunken twenty somethings in front of us. We talked to Ranger and he was responsive.
Great day, average course
This is a nice golf course to enjoy a nice day. The holes are mostly straight away and the fairways are wide. There are enough tee boxes to play whatever length is comfortable. Some of the sand traps are mostly dirt that has been milled up with some sand. There are course rangers that do keep play moving and will assist in letting faster groups play through slower groups. There was a beverage cart but, I would suggest that they let the starter know if it is out (we asked and he didn't know). Also, the starter could have let us know that there was a beverage/food house located behind the 1st green!! All in all nice day with good friends on a nice day. Course rating - 2 1/2 Stars
Very nice round.
Played on a cooler windy day so pace was just great. Fairways were good, bunkers were a little dirty, but the greens were outstanding. Great staff as well.
Nice course
I was a golf course superintendent for 20+ years. This course is in rather good shape for this time of year. It's fair for all levels of players. The greens rolled true. Staff is very friendly. If your strictly interested in esthetics the paths need repaving. And they don't have pretty flower beds at every tee and there are few benches at the tees and the building is a little older. IF YOU LIKE TO GOLF, YOU WILL ENJOY A ROUND ON EITHER COURSE.
ST. ANDREWS JOE JEMSEK #2 LAKEWOOD
Coming out of a long hard winter the Lakewood course was in great condition. The greens were in great shape, fairways were great, bunkers were nice and fluffy. We played on March 21st. the weather held to 58 degrees and sunny, windy at times but perfect day.
Open all year!
We teed off with a temp of 10 degrees! Course is ALWAYS open and for us die hards it's fantastic!
Good winter fun.
We had a great time. The course was well kept (some maintenance projects here and there). Happy to know they're open all year 'round.
wide fairways and large greens, short game needs to be good.
covered carts good for bad weather .Ccourse conditions good for winter play.
This course is great for beginners. Wide open fairways mostly.
Easy fast golf this time of year. Course is in great condition.
Perfect golf course for outings!!
I will make this course one of my regular courses to play next year!!!!!!!!!!
Well maintained fast greens
Great course especially at the $26 rate. Course was well maintained, all the leaves where blown off the fairways and greens which makes things easier when playing in the fall. Wide fairways but tough around the greens. The greens where probably one of the fastest I've played, ball rolled for days. Course #2 has some nice elevation changes. Overall great course that I look forward to playing again.
Course
This is a long course very little water in play, the par 4's are very long par 4's the greens are very fast this time of the year making very challenging.
Very enoyable to play.
World's Longest Golf Round
Saint Andrews is a well maintained public facility, but pace of play was inexcusably slow. At one point (#8) five separate foursomes could be seen on a single par five, excluding OUR group! My own and I played as a twosome, sandwiched between two threesomes, and our round took nearly six hours to complete!!!
The rangers were out and active, but ineffective. Apparently an outing was on the course in the morning and had a three-hole gap, but refused to close it or to advance.
Staff was friendly, but ineffective at managing the pace of play.
St. Andrews Course #2
Love playing at St. Andrews! Good for both riding or walking. Very walkable as is a traditional layout (both courses). Great value during the week especially for seniors.
If you play the blue tees, most of the length is on the par 3's. So don't let the scorecard length deter you from the pleasure of the blues.
Great bar and good food. A really good destination even if you're not there to play golf. They should promote it as such!
Be warned that if you play nine, there will be a short walk in as the ninths don't return to the clubhouse.
For the love of the game.
I've rediscovered St. Andrews after many years away. Play the Jemsek course... that is the gem. I love the gently rolling fairways and general lack of water. You really get to hit away. The bunkers and beautiful trees are in play, though, so you want to be on the fairway as much as possible. My only "complaint" is that all the Par 3s are longish. What a gem of a course. I tell my friends to play St. Andrews rather than Klein Creek... an easy choice for me.
Bob the golfer
Course was in great shape. Greens were hard and slick. Fairways were in fantastic shape.
