Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

Great course for the money.
I played a fair bit on this course lately. Overall, I am very satisfied with this course, especially considering its very reasonable price ($24/$29 for early morning tee times during the weekdays).
The course conditions have improved since I last played six years ago. Fairways and greens are clean and well mowed. They could not be as good as the more expensive courses such as Cantigny, Prairie Landings, and Arrowhead, but comparing to the course of this price range, I would say the course conditions are exceptional.
Course layout is good but a little much to the straight side. #4, #5, and #18s are a bit challenging. Other holes are more or less straight.
Overall, it is a fun course to play, and great value for the money.

Good to revisit
I haven’t played here for three years, it was a welcome return. It’s certainly a longer course from the white tee box compared to others.

Bad
The tee boxes at this course are right where most drives and approach shots land if you don’t hit the tight fair ways. My groups cart got hit 4 times while playing. Many people jumping into your fair way while trying to tee off. Which is not an issue cause I’m not good at golf so I understand but the course lay out makes it not safe at all when very busy. Recommend wearing a helmet.

Really good municipal value golf course
Very good for a variety of players. Not the most exciting layout in the area, but the course is kept in good condition, the pace is solid and the range is good. It’s a great place for golf and they have really really good club fittings.

Great Course
This was my first time playing this course and I can’t wait to go back. I consider myself new to the game of golf and this course provided a challenging yet forgiving round from hole 1 to hole 18. I will definitely be returning.

Overall the course is in condition and well kept, but the pace was slow we have to wait at lease 5mins to hit the ball.

A bit pricey for the average golf course
Nothing really wowed me about the course but it’s overall a nice place. I would never golf here unless I got a good deal for it. The layout on the St. Andrews course was pretty plain but could have been worse. The tee boxes were a big shaggy and were covered in divots. The rest of the course was in pretty good condition. Trees are the main hazards, as you rarely have a good shot to the green if near a tree. Course starter is strict and will make you wait until your tee time to tee off, so don’t expect to sneak out for a quick round coming here. If you aren’t on top of your game, the course plays pretty long from the whites. Unfortunately, the next best option for an average player is the yellow tees, which are a drastic decrease in yardage from the whites.

Place sucks
Tired equipment, mediocre layout, greens are beat up, nobody was friendly. Won’t be playing here again.

This course is very playable. I am a mid to upper handicapper and do not hit the ball terribly long. Most of the greens are very accessible to the bogey golfer so you do not need to worry about reaching greens in regulation. This could be beneficial as greens are larger than average.

Played 54 holes
Played 3 rounds, one on the St. Andrews course and two on Joe J…it was great! Teed of at 7am was done by five. Replay is FREE which is great (just had to pay the cart fee). If you have the time, and the back for it, do it! Courses were in good condition, greens were great, staff was friendly, can’t really ask for more.
