St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - St. Andrews Course
About
Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

Great layout
I am tired of coming here and having slow greens and over watered course. It has been this way for way too long. We thought we would try it again after a few years, but, same old slow bumpy greens. It is really a shame, since it is an old classic layout with really interesting green detailed slopes.
Slow play hot day
They usually do decent job moving folks along but not so good mid morning to mad afternoon this day. We were waiting almost every hole and temperatures were hovering @ 90 degrees. Course in OK shape. Still kind of like it here due to two courses and reasonable rates but may wait until next year to head out there again!
We'd Boys on Tuesday
Course was in very good shape as usual. Bunkers could be better but it is that time of the year. Staff friendly as usual, especially starters and pro shop. Carol in the pro shop always friendly and professional. I did have a problem with e pace of play. It appeared they ran a golf league and booked tee times to close to booked tee times. Also, the rangers that are usually present were not on the course. The group in front of us needed to be pushed because there were two open holes in front of them. We waited on every hole on the back nine.
Wednesday boys on Friday
Never disappointed by course conditions; tee boxes, fairways and greens. Staff is always friendly and they know their business. We keep coming back here because we are never disappointed.
;
impromptu Tee Time
Always a good time. Carts are lokking there age vit work fine and the rangers are good people. First time I'd been at turn and the snack shop was open. Overall fun
fun to play good course
good golf course, with not very busy. Yet stuck behind a poor playing group that was slower than day was long. they were so bad could not hit ball 40 yards at a time any or the 4 players and were in no respect to let others through. Held up whole golf course. Yet nobody around to push them along. Otherwise was nice day and I would have played much better if pace of play was better.
Great Traditional Course
One of my favorite courses. It is a beautiful traditional layout and in great condition. A wonderful reasonable public course.
5 hours to play 18
We teed off on schedule but it took 5 hours to finish 18 holes. The ranger must have had the day off. We had an inconsiderate 4-some with blaring rap music in front of us but they were not the pace problem.
We will never play this course on a weekend again. We previously played it on a weekday and had a great experience.
Our weekends are usually busy so that naturally leads to longer rounds. However, if you tee off in the early to mid morning, you definitely play faster. As for the music, we do not allow music so loud that it bothers other players. If you encounter problems such as this, please do not hesitate to call the pro shop so that a ranger can be sent over to you. 630.231.3100 ext. 114. Thank you for your feed back!
Enjoyed very much
Thanks to all staff working AT THE COURSE. always friendly.
Good, Bad and Ugly
We played the front nine in an hour and twenty minutes. The back nine lasted almost three hours. A ranger spoke with the groups ahead of us but nothing changed. The starters, pro shop and half way house people are always friendly. Th course was in very good condition. The general manager is anything but friendly not what you typically get at a Jamasek operated facility. I know St Andrews has an absentee owner that lives in California.
Hi Al,
We are sorry that your round was so lopsided, but we are glad to see that were able to play the whole round in less than 4 hours/20 minutes. As a former staffer you know that if the a ranger is not able to take care of a concern, you can always call the pro shop. Please do not hesitate to call the pro shop for any reason: 630.231.3100 ext. 114. Also, even though the family owners live elsewhere, they visit often & are actively involved in all aspects of the business. Thanks for your comments & we hope to see you soon!
Lots of trees
I've played this course many times over the past 8 years. It was in as good condition as I've ever seen it. Greens were fast, The rough wasn't overbearing. And everything was very green, even through the solar eclipse.
Solid (Female Friendly) Layout
My wife is playing more and more and I book places that are female friendly which means limited water and forced carries. She was happy and shot 105. That's good for her.
Old school layout (straight or w/minimal doglegs) enabled St. Andrews to fit in 36 holes.
Best golf course
Wow wow I have a new play ground great service , beautiful golf course I can wait to play again .love it
Always fun
All around nice course. Both courses are nice and fun to play. Nothing too challenging but not too easy. Course conditions are always great. Reasonably priced to at any time of the day. I would recommend this course to all types of players.
Hi Gregg,
If you ever have a problem on the course, please call the pro shop. We will send a ranger right over. 630.231.3100 ext. 114. Thanks for the feedback!
