St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - St. Andrews Course
About
Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

Always fun
All around nice course. Both courses are nice and fun to play. Nothing too challenging but not too easy. Course conditions are always great. Reasonably priced to at any time of the day. I would recommend this course to all types of players.
Great Shape
St. Andrews #1 was in great shape. The greens were fair. The pace of play was fantastic. My only issue is the course needs more portable restroom facility and I wish the beverage cart would have made more rounds especially on a hot-humid day. For those who haven't played St. Andrews, I'd highly recommend. With the mature trees, it's challenging but the fairways are wide and the greens are big, which makes it a nice course to play with friends.
Little Pricey in the area but worth your money
This course was a really good little course to get away to if you are coming into town and want to get a casual round in with a challenging twist. I played it from the tips and it was fairly difficult but manageable.
Nice Facility
Played from the blue tees which play almost 7,000 yards. At that distance you use pretty much every club in the bag. Lots of long par 4's 400 yards plus including three in a row to finish. I didn't find the layout particularly interesting but the greens certainly are, big undulating greens and in very good condition, putts tracked very well on them. My only real complaint was the fact that at the clubhouse they appear to have a snack shack where you might pick up a simple hotdog and soda but it wasn't open. They have a very nice restaurant and bar area however and a well equipped snack shack at the turn. Overall a pleasant round of golf and will play it again.
Best deal!
For a western suburban course located just off of North Ave. in West Chicago, no course matches up to this one for its overall quality and amenities for the price. St. Andrews is by far my favorite regular course that I play for the price and quality. Friendly staff, great people on and off the course. Easy to get to and unreal deals. A must play!
Course #2
I played on course #2 yesterday for an outing and had a great time. The course seemed to be in excellent shape and the greens rolled very true- made some long putts and the ball never wavered or bumped on its way to the hole. The pace of the greens was perfect for my liking, and never had a problem with speeds.
Large mature trees line the fairways which have some undulation and topography changes that result in a few blind shots so having a GPS in the cart was very helpful. You may have to lay up on a few holes to avoid the hazards but overall the course plays well for all levels. There is a good mix of long holes and short holes, and plays pretty fair.
They have one of the best practice facilities I’ve seen in a long time with a large turf tee area and a deep range to hit drivers. If St. Andrew’s wasn’t so far away from where I live in the city I’d play here again for sure. If you live out that way, definitely check it out.
Golf day with son and nephews
Course in good shape. Wind really made course #1 play harder. Greens were very fast and pin placements were difficult. Grass in 2nd rough was a little high making it difficult to find ball sometimes. Service on course and after was great! Had a great day!
Fun course
Well one a return trip the one thing Is say was it was a great day and weather was nice. We had a late tee time and we Tee off at 530pm to try and get a round in before dusk. Shortly right after tee off we discovered our 2 some was right in back of 4 very begginer golfers and the ranger was no where to be seen which made for frustration but my partner and I made the best of it. It would have been good if they let us play through but unfortunalty we did not. Once we made the turn we were able to get in 12 holes before dusk. Hungry we made it back to the club house to discover the Kitchen was closed and my partner and I were hungry. Just then we watched 4 meals be paraded right in front of us and served to non other than the 4 some that was in front of us. Well my partner and I had a bag of chips and a few beers whilst we watched our 4 some again ruin our experience. I would say close the Kitchen at 9pm not too much to ask I would say any earlier is not right or they could have made us a sandwich or something but whatever.

Course review
It's early in season , so course was in average condition.
However the golf carts were in terrible shape . I had to try 4 carts before I got one to work. Plus, I had to use the choke several times during the round.
I played the course on a hot deal and paid $ 27. Course is not worth more that $35 to play with cart.
Hello,
We're sorry you had a bad experience with our carts. As you noted, it was early in the season. Gas carts act this way when they are not used every day. Our carts obviously are running great right now during busy season & are all equipped with GPS. Also, you marked us as having "poor" off course amenities but I don't think you used any of them. Our Practice Center is one of the best in the Chicagoland area. Also, we have 2 pro shops, men's & women's lockerrooms, and J.J.'s Bar & Grill.

Hi Peter,
The Tee Side Grill out front is used mainly for Wednesday Nights Live on the Lawn. You can always order a simple hotdog & drink (to go, from the bartender) inside at J.J.'s Bar & Grill. Thanks for your feedback!
