St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - St. Andrews Course
About
Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

Soggy day
Cart path only for the golf carts makes for a longer than normal round. And that's what happened on this day. Too much rain the couple of days before was the culprit. With that said, the tee boxes were in good condition and most of the fairways were playable except for a few spots where there was casual water. The bunkers were quite wet, to the point that we decided not to play out of them if our balls landed in them. The greens were fast as usual and were not a problem even with all the rain that had fallen. It would have been nice if the course would have allowed carts in the rough and cart path, but stay off the fairways. We did lose a few balls in the rough. The grass should be cut lower in the rough. It would help in faster play.
Awesome Staff, Course, and Amenities
I am in town for a wedding from AZ and decided to try this course out. Due to a gps error I was a few minutes late for my tee time. No problem per the awesome staff in the clubhouse. This welcoming attitude continued with the Starter. He let me warm up for a bit while the twosome I was paired with played ahead. The course itself is challenging and beautiful. Being used to Arizona greens and rough, it took several holes to get somewhat comfortable. I caught up with all the groups in front of me at #9. That's when Ranger Tom came to help. Tom explained the reason for the backup and asked me if I would be willing to head over to the other course to finish my round. I was not in any hurry but the fact that he took the time to ask was impressive . I jumped over to the other course and finished 18 in four hours. I also noticed that Tom grabbed a few other smaller groups behind me and I know they were happy as well. This is a first rate facility with tremendous staff. You need to play here.
Great old golf course
I've played this course several times the past few years. The greens are fast and undulating. Always a challenge. They are rebuilding a few of the bunkers, but there are still plenty to navigate. The rough is somewhat tall and made it hard to find balls if you were in the rough. Fairways are in good condition. Some of the tee boxes are a little too firm and makes it a little hard to place your tee in the ground. Golf carts have GPS which is a great plus. It shows yardage to the front, middle, and back of the greens. I'll be back again to play.
Well maintained
This course is always on beautiful condition. The price is reasonable and the staff is friendly. We also used their range which was also in excellent condition with grass tees. You will not be disappointed with this club.
Still playable even after heavy rainfall
We played this course right after a heavy rainfall. We used the power carts but had to keep them on the cart path. There were only a couple of areas on the fairways where casual water was present but many of the bunkers had puddles of water. Even with the rain, the the greens were in excellent shape. I've played this course many times and always enjoy the challenge.
i do not reccomend this golf course. dverywhere but the fairway was full of dandilions in my yard im ok with it but not when im paying 50 bucks and driving 45 plus mins 2 play a course we did play a quick hassle free round but the course was totsly unacceptable i refund is definately i order here
Great course with very good staff
Both courses are good challenge for all levels of players. Staff on and off course very helpful and professional. We always enjoy are rounds of golf here.
Disappointed
Showed up early to the course to use the range and warm up with a buddy. We got done early thought maybe we could get on the course a few minutes early. The lady at the front desk informed us that no one had tee times booked ahead of us but bc we used golf now we would have to wait. We finished 18 holes and thought hey let’s play the second course for a replay rate. The women at the front desk would not offer any discount because we used golf now and charged us full price. Not to mention that we also ate a meal at their restaurant and purchased beverages before we got out there. The course wasn’t in good shape at all and I don’t think I would care to play here again just from the lack of appreciation for patrons.
Early season round still great
It was a little cold and carpath only but that is really the only thing I can complain about. I've played this course numerous times and keep making the drive to play it. It was our first round out this season we had a absolute blast. Thank you St. Andrews for the hospitality.
Bama boy
I have played this course many times. Course is always in. good condition. These people know how to run a golf. course. Pro shop , starter and GM always give you professional treatment. Carts are now covered for older weather.
