West/East at Arrowhead Golf Club
About
Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton offers 27 holes of championship golf. The entire course features water on 17 holes and 77 strategically placed bunkers. The course is divided into three nine-hole courses that can be played in different 18-hole combinations. The club opened in 1927 but two of the golf courses, South and East, were renovated in 2011, followed by the West nine a year after. The golf courses are all equally challenging but they each have a unique character. The West/East Course starts with the shortest nine but it also has one of the most intimidating water holes, the par-3 seventh, which has a green that is almost entirely surrounded by water. With such a challenging variety of courses, it is not hard to imagine why Arrowhead G.C. is considered one of the best municipal golf courses in the Chicago area.

They kept everyone playing READY golf....Which was great!!!....because the course was quite busy!!!
I liked that we saw rangers riding around making sure everyone was playing READY golf.....Which could have easily made for a 5 hour round....Which of course it did not...
The course is very solid for a municipal track, but the marshalls are obnoxious and overbearing trying to regulate pace of play!
Arrowhead has one of the finest clubhouses in the Western Suburbs, a fantastic place before or after a round to have a drink or a meal! The course is in outstanding shape, with particular emphasis on the quality of the sand bunkers. The rate was very reasonble thanks to GolfNow, but the standard greens fees are on the high side for this layout. One aspect of the course that needs to be fixed quickly is the approach of marshalls trying to regulate pace of play. I have played here twice, and both times, once for 18 holes and once for 9, we were "badgered incessantly" by the marshalls to pick up pace of play, despite the fact our GPS was showing we were right on pace. we explained this to them, yet they felt compelled to hover over us as we played, which made for a very uncomfortable atmosphere. I am a 7-9 handicap and my playing partners on each occasion were obviously capable as we finsihed these rounds within or under the preferred time. Arrowhead needs to figure out this issue because it takes away from the enjoyment of an otherwise beautiful golf course.
great course, though the staff was a bit of a turn off
Having never played here before, my friend and I didn't really know their system for getting started. The staff didn't really provide any direction so we had to do a lot of asking around. Once we were on the course, we were impressed by the course lay out and conditions. The grounds crew actually got in our way a couple of times though. Didn't feel rushed or like we were playing slow. We were annoyed to be ignored by the refreshment cart 4 times though, and thought that was pretty bad business on their part. I thought the sand traps were one of the highlights of this course-very well maintained. All-in-all, a very enjoyable round and will probably be back, especially at the price we payed.
Wonderful experience
I have played this course many times and am never disappointed either in it's condition or the willingness of the entire staff to make it a great experience.
From Goat Track to Gem!
I have lived in this area for many years. This place use to be a goat track back in the day. Over the years it has been improved, with the most recent improvements making this one of the best courses around. Greens were great, fairways were great, tee boxes were great, layout is challenging, but fair. Well worth the money...just don't tell anybody...I like the 3 hour and 15 minutes rounds!
We'll maintained challenging course
Would have been a great day of golf. but the course became extremely backed up as Arrowhead tried to squeeze in as many tee times as possible that day.
Arrowhead West Course is well-laided out
Course was in nice shape after the weather issues recently. Staff was friendly, helpful...The Clubhouse bar was very nice & again, friendly staff.
Scenic with a few challenging holes.
I have played 9-holes on this course a couple of times. It is a course where hitting it straight comes in handy. Not much room out of bounds for ball searching. I will play it again for sure.
Great....Great...Great!
Great weather, great course, great staff, great food, great overall experience. I will be Back!
best condition
Played South and East and was in best condition that I've ever seen it. Greens rolling quick and true, bunkers in good shape (take it from me, I was in em), and the fairways were clean and tight. I played here because Cantigny was booked and it was half the money for prob the same condition, so I was very happy. I'll be back soon!
Beautiful grounds, well maintained and lovely facilities. Well stocked pro shop.
Lovely, elegant course with families welcome. Beautiful grounds, well maintained and lovely facilities. Well stocked pro shop.
Appreciate separate 9 hole and 18 hole courses where families can enjoy the slower pace of the 9 hole course.
Now, THIS is the way a course should be operated....
This is an amazing place with one hole as great, if not moreso, than the next. Immaculately maintained, well staffed, with fairly crowded play not only started on time, but marshalled along the way to keep play going. ALL courses should take a cue from the latter! It's not cheap, but I can't wait to play it again.
My favorite course in the midwest
Played opening weekend with a co-worker and absolutely enjoyed it. Easily my favorite course in the area. If you see a hot deal, don't pass on it!
The full experience
I played with a buddy here, mid day on the fourth of july. The course was booked solid the whole day, so the course was pretty packed but the marshals did a good job spreading groups out and we were able to complete 9 in about 2 hours. Growing up in the area i must say this place has gone hollywood a little bit, The rates have gone wayyy up from when i was a kid (not that long ago). During that time they have made alot of improvements. The clubhouse/restaraunt is pretty much state of the art, and they have made upgrades to the course/other amenities. If you can find a good value tee time on golf now i would definitley recommend this place.
Good course
We used a discount site for our tee time. Every tee time was $67 except one for $30. At this time of year, almost any course is too much at $67. My friends and I are addicts, but we haven't played Arrowhead in at least five years due to their rates.
The gps was off by as much as 15 yards in some places, so we used our rangefinders. This course needs to add the reflectors to the flags, because some were difficult to pick up. On the 16th hole, the gps gave us a straight line measurement to the green, but the hole is a dogleg, and we weren't aware of the straight yardage to the end of the fairway. Another hole (8, I think) had a large fairway bunker that appeared to be in the middle of the fairway from the tee box. It was not shown on the gps, and was in our landing area.
We were quite pleased that the bunkers had real sand (read: not mud!) Until we played out of a few. In three instances, we hit out of a bunker only to take up part of the mat under the sand.
Overall, we really like the course. A good track that provides a good challenge. The greens are very nice.
Reminds me of playing at the country club
Great grass, fantastic condition, beautiful holes, just fantastic value
fairway and green were excellent.
The agents were very kind and the conditiond of golf course was excellent . I will play a game again later.
this course is a hidden gem.
From the time you arrive at the course and go into the proshop, the people are super friendly. the course can compete with many of the private courses in the Chicagoland area as far as the layout and the course conditions. the green roll extremely true and are fairly quick. Afterwards they have a great 19th hole with a great bar and restaurant.
This is Wheaton uhhhhhh
The layout of the course presents difficulty and aspiring shots. The white beach sand on the east and south course are a treat to hit out of. Greens are in good condition and run true. My only complaint is that this course is in Wheaton, and yes that means you will be amongst hoosiers(no etiquette, arrogant, loud). The sense of playing through is non-existent so setup a foursome or be ready. The staff is beyond rude, just wait to hear the barking starter present his interpretation of the course, hope you have headphones in because he shoots in the 100's. If you escape that you will have some other jag on the course ride up on you telling you your behind pace of play bc the starter put you behind 4 women walkers. My advice play on a Monday or Tuesday or when its cold out, hooseirs hate the cold.
