About
Chevy Chase Country Club (formerly known as Traditions at Chevy Chase Country Club) in Wheeling is one of Chicagoland's top public golf facilities. Thomas Bendelow designed the golf course in 1925. The classic layout remained largely the same until 2002 when a major renovation updated the course and made it more challenging. The layout now has deep pot bunkers lined with tall native fescue that border the generous, rolling greens and undulating fairways. Though it is more challenging than it was, the golf course still offers a player-friendly round. Four sets of tees also ensure that golfers can play to their skill level. The course finishes with its signature hole, a par 5 that features water both left and right of the landing area off the tee. Three massive bunkers and yet another pond all fiercely guard the green as well.

Good course greens need work
Real good course. More than a few greens look like there’s two different types of grass and is splotchy causing your putt to bounce around. Fairways and tee boxes were in great condition. Facilities are great.

Not great
No need to bring a repair tool - the greens were all rock hard even after the extremely wet weather we've had.
lots of parallel fairways. I play courses for 35.00 that are in better condition... I won't go back.

Lost balls 2 feet off the fairway
This course would be a good time for a causal golfer if it was possible to find a ball in the rough. The rough was so tall that if you missed the fairway by even an inch and ended up in the rough finding your ball was almost impossible unless you were standing on top of it. The greens were in awful shape. Tee boxes are not bad and there are nice amenities. I played on a weekday and there were maybe 5-10 golfers on the course and there was no issue with pace of play. I would 10000000% recommend you avoid playing this course on a weekend since searching through the rough for your ball would add add at least 3-5 minutes per hole and it will get backed up and lead to a 5 hour round

Weather has the greens destroyed, playable but not worth the current price. Rough too high for average golfer but weather probably has prevented mowing.

2022 Greens… terrible shape.
Someone messed up on the greens keeping staff. 2nd week of May, and the greens were in terrible shape. Lots of dead spots with dirt and bouncy putts. Rest of the course was as usual, and for the numbers of rounds Chevy gets… really good considering the previous week of wet weather. Expect a slow round even with Marshals driving around. We waited on every shot and 2:25 for 9 holes following two threesomes. Lush rough has higher handicaps looking for errant shots. So, probably a miss with all of this for now until at the least the greens are good enough to wait all that time for!

Overall, course was in very good shape. However, green conditions were average at best. Probably due to early season weather issues.

Coarse generally in great shape, only complaint is the bunker’s need SAND, proper golf sand.

Solid Course - Greens is Rough Shape
I played Chevy Chase dozens of times in the past (2006-2013) but hadn’t been in a while. Course remains a solid design. Pretty compact but large mature trees line each hole making it feel tighter that it actually is. Given the compactness of the layout, it is a surprisingly interesting course. However, the greens are in rough shape which I don’t remember from years past. Lots of bentgrass / poa mix. Patches of no grass at all. Very bumpy. Hopefully this is just an early season issue but I suspect not.
Price was $42 walking on a Sunday morning which I found very affordable and about right.
Pace of play was very good. All groups moved along and I finished well under 4 hours.
Clubhouse and bar are terrific. Newly updated.
