Chevy Chase Country Club (formerly known as Traditions at Chevy Chase Country Club) in Wheeling is one of Chicagoland's top public golf facilities. Thomas Bendelow designed the golf course in 1925. The classic layout remained largely the same until 2002 when a major renovation updated the course and made it more challenging. The layout now has deep pot bunkers lined with tall native fescue that border the generous, rolling greens and undulating fairways. Though it is more challenging than it was, the golf course still offers a player-friendly round. Four sets of tees also ensure that golfers can play to their skill level. The course finishes with its signature hole, a par 5 that features water both left and right of the landing area off the tee. Three massive bunkers and yet another pond all fiercely guard the green as well.

Poor course management

The starter insisted we start 15 minutes early. Even after we politely decline to do so when he approached us on the putting Gryn. By the second hole, we were already waiting for the group in front of us. This continued on for the remainder of the day and had to wait at every hole to tee off.

April Golf

My first time playing here, last day of april , the trees still have no leaves, but the course was so good and in great shape,I really enjoyed the rd of 18, cant wait to come back once the trees are green with leaves

Slow play today

We got behind two knuckle heads on the back 9 that took 2 1/2 hours. They ended up 4 to 5 holes behind. Not an enjoyable round. The greens were recently aerated. They were very slow and bumpy. Not what I’m used to at Chevy Chase. I’m sure they will recover.

Greens are in tough shape

It’s early in the season but some greens are patchy. Hopefully when we get through spring the condition will get better, especially the green on #8. The course is a great track and I’m confident the grounds crew will get everything where it needs to be.
