Fantastic course!
It had been 25 years since in played Belk Park and it is just as great today as it was back in the mid-90's. The course was in fantastic shape. The greens were fast and rolled true. Fairways were still green, although the cooler weather will most likely cause them to do dormant soon. Bunkers had plenty of sand in them and were well kept. Tee boxes were in good shape. Overall - great course to play!
Excellent Course
Had a great time even though it rained half the time we played today. Will definitely be back!
Great Course
I have played this course a number of times and they are always working on it. Greens and fairways in excellent shape. They always have a starter but is is rare to see a Marshall.
Fun Round
Belk Park is always a nice course to play. The conditions were good, only complaint is some of the greens. If golfers would do a better job of repairing ball marks and not dragging clubs, etc. that do damage to the greens I would give this course a 5 star. Not necessarily is this on the staff, it's more on us as golfers to exercise etiquette around the greens.
Still a favorite course
the course is in great shape. Always a fun time to playing the course.
Worth the drive from Chesterfield to Wood River.
The course is on fine condition. Booking on Golfnow got us a very good deal and certainly worth the 45 minute drive to get there.
St Louis Area Favorite
This is one of my favorites in the area. Always in good, shape, good value and a great layout.
Decent Course, Overly Booked
Found a good deal on Tee Off but the course was WAAYYYY Overbooked. Started on the back 9 because of league play later, as we made the turn the front was backed up by at least 6 carts. Careful when you visit this course as it is booked solid. Hole 18 should be closed to carts as it's muddy and patchy. Staff has always been great and the brewskies are affordable.
Very wet, cart paths only
We didn't realize how much rain they've had here recently (5"), so we also didn't expect cart paths only. It was very wet and I understand why they required paths only, but the course was pretty swampy in many places. My wife only played the par 3's when she found all the walking involved (bad back). The weather was perfect though and the pace of play was fine. Will play again someday when it's no so wet.
High Marks For Conditioning But Continue To Have Drainage Issues On Some Fairways
Belk Park was built in the late 50's and has the classic older golf course architecture. Deep fairway bunkers, round greens that slope from back to front and the course is deceivingly more difficult than it looks.
Overall the course is in great shape. I've been playing Belk Park for a long time but they have always had drainage issues on some of the front nine fairways, near rhe landing areas. Really bad on holes 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9. If it rains, these areas are filled with water. If dry, grass does not grow in these areas. They also have a section bisecting the 10th fairway which is mud. Not sure what is going on there. The first half of the 18th fairway is in rough shape. The cart paths are very rough too.
What makes this place special is the friendliness of the staff. All the course marshalls could not have been nicer. A very nice golf course for the price of $42, It was the first course we played this COVID-19 season, that allowed you to take the flagstick out and there were rakes in the bunkers.
