Very wet, cart paths only
We didn't realize how much rain they've had here recently (5"), so we also didn't expect cart paths only. It was very wet and I understand why they required paths only, but the course was pretty swampy in many places. My wife only played the par 3's when she found all the walking involved (bad back). The weather was perfect though and the pace of play was fine. Will play again someday when it's no so wet.
High Marks For Conditioning But Continue To Have Drainage Issues On Some Fairways
Belk Park was built in the late 50's and has the classic older golf course architecture. Deep fairway bunkers, round greens that slope from back to front and the course is deceivingly more difficult than it looks.
Overall the course is in great shape. I've been playing Belk Park for a long time but they have always had drainage issues on some of the front nine fairways, near rhe landing areas. Really bad on holes 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9. If it rains, these areas are filled with water. If dry, grass does not grow in these areas. They also have a section bisecting the 10th fairway which is mud. Not sure what is going on there. The first half of the 18th fairway is in rough shape. The cart paths are very rough too.
What makes this place special is the friendliness of the staff. All the course marshalls could not have been nicer. A very nice golf course for the price of $42, It was the first course we played this COVID-19 season, that allowed you to take the flagstick out and there were rakes in the bunkers.
Ive played there about 6 times this year, maybe 25 times total. I drive from Fairview Heights . I like the course and have always felt like they were glad I was there to play. We all know you dont always feel welcome everywhere. It is in our rotation of courses we will keep coming back.

Beautiful course that is challenging. Had to apologize on a couple holes to the group in front of me because of the dog legs and trees obstructing my view.

Nice course. Excellent shape especially fairways. Challenging layout. Good course for all skill levels.

Course was overall great shape ! Staff was good ! Back nine was not as good shape in fairways as front ! Especially 18 ! Like corse and will play it again !

The course played fast, green slow due to rain the day before but overall good condition, 18 fairway is ugly but the other fairways were in good shape. I would go back...if I had one compliant it would be the overcooked bratwurst.

Got to play with my friends today the course was in great condition, the pace of play was good and the staff extremely friendly!!! Great time! We will be back!
