Old friend
Played Belk Park weekly in the early 90's when I lived in B-Town, was like visiting an old friend. And it felt like every other time, which was a pleasant surprise. Course in great shape as usual except 18 fairway is a disaster. Didn't hit any shots out of it, so no worries. All golf is overly expensive, but definitely good value for course length, condition and difficulty. MO golfers, make the road trip, you won't be disappointed...Roma's, 140 Club or Fast Eddies after and you have a near perfect day.
The course has a great design
Course was in good shape this Spring compared to last year with all the rain!
Pace of play
The course was sending groups of 2 out. Our round still took 4 hours 15 minutes. They had a marshal on the course who I addressed the pace of play problem with twice. Absolutely nothing was done. What should have been a brisk 2 hour 30 minute round was ruined by standing and waiting at every tee box. I don't really understand what the marshal is supposed to do, but this one did nothing
Good times
it was good to play the course. Found a way to keep the gnats away. Had a great time playing. Course is in really good shape
Great value
Course is in great condition. Greens are rolling nice, zoysia fairways beautiful.
Belk Park 2019
Belk Park has seen a great deal of rain in 2019. It unfortunately has taken a toll in some of the low spots in the fairways. There are some bare spots, but normally you can move your ball just a few feet and be on perfect fairway grass. The layout is challenging. The people who run Belk Park are trying to get it the condition to make it in the range of one of the best public courses in the St. Louis area. Four stars now, but hopefully rising higher in years to come!
“Not up to par”
Belk normally one of the better courses in the area for playing conditions. That being said, currently not the case. Hole #9 under construction, changed to a par 3. Fairways have lots of dead spots, and they were shaggy. I know we just had several inches of rain in a short period, but the fairways didn’t happen overnight. Staff was great, even got a reduced rate w/o asking .The greens were a little chewed up, although some of that is due to bad golf etiquette. Fix your divots you lazy jerks!!!!!!! Sorry, major pet peeve. Course can and should recover soon, hopefully.
Nice Course but....
The 9th hole is under construction now and is converted to a par 3. Otherwise, all good. Forgiving layout...mostly...but tough and fast greens.
Fun, Enjoyable Course
Course was very enjoyable. A great course for your average golfer considering forgiveness off the tee and lack of much trouble around the greens. There are several fairway bunkers to be avoided of the tee, however...The Greens and tee boxes were in great shape, but the fairways were not all that great in several spots on nearly every fairway. Pace of Play was fantastic. Not many people on the course (we played at 11am on a Wednesday) and we were able to play with no disruptions in our pace. Course seems to take a while to dry out, and there were several wet spots, but other than wetness and chewed up fairways, it was well worth the hour drive, and it is hard to beat when you find a $10 18-hole rate. My friend and I will be back.
Soggy mess
There is a difference between cart path only and you should not be open. Fairways all had damage, only mud where grass was, trying to find ways around standing water to get to your ball and insects by the thousands. This is due to the recent rains not the course management but full price when the course is this bad, no thanks
Cant wait to get off the cart path
Still one of the best values in the metro STL region.
Course in good conditions, but with weeks of rain it is noticeable that mowers have not only not been in the rough but many of the fairways still un-mowed. Despite long grass in the fairways and wet conditions the bunkers were well groomed and in excellent conditions, no standing water. A fun and challenging course but can't wait for it to dry out.
Still recovering
... from all of the water. 10-17 were in above average shape, but most of the rest of the course is beat up.
