Course has been shaved
There is no grass on the fairways. The groundskeeper decided to cut the grass down to nothing. Basically your ball is on mud or dirt. The best bet is to aim for the rough. Did not enjoy it at all.
Great course
This is definitely one of the best public courses I've played in Illinois. Tough undulating greens and fairways. Played 18 holes in under 4 hours on a holiday. Great staff. I would highly recommend it.
Wonderful Course!
This is an absolutely beautiful—but challenging course! We enjoyed the course layout and each and every hole! From the tee boxes, to the fairways and the greens— this course was beautiful! While it is at the far northern tip of Illinois, it’s certainly worth the drive!
It's a great course and value for the cost to play there. Pace was 4 hours and 35 minutes which was a little slower than usual when we played there, but it was Friday afternoon at noon when we teed off. 2 things I would like to see changed is their GPS system needs an upgrade to show where actual pin is and it needs another tee both choice on back side. Goes from 3,248 to 3522 yards. So golf course goes from 6272 to 6800. Would be nice for one another 6500. Really nit picking on last 2, but would make it even better.

Shepherd’s Crook is one of my favorite courses in the north suburbs of Chicago. The layout is challenging but very fair, with most of the difficulty being on and around the greens. There’s a nice variety of holes, visually and strategically. It’s in excellent condition. The only real demerit is that there’s no driving range, just an average practice green.

Bent grass fairways, 3-1/2 rough, fast greens that are complex
Good sand in the bunkers
Good GPS on the cart.
I have played private clubs that were not this good.
You get to hit every club in your bag
Very Challenging Greens, Friendly Staff, Overall Good Experience
If you want to test your putting skills, this is the place. Go check out the practice putting green and that’s about what you get out on the course and then some. Staff were all very friendly and great. Pace of play was super fast. Never had to wait to hit. Hot dogs were really good at the club house.
Only downside is it is next to a landfill, so a few holes on the back have a very bad smell.
Nice Links Course
I enjoyed my round very much. The course was in excellent condition. Huge but difficult greens. Some really tough pin placements which made it very challenging.
Well maitained course
Very nice and well maitained course, mountanous course, up and down,front 9 holes are mostly on up hill, back 9 holes are on down hill. Not many trees around, links type courses, enjoyed to play, after palying a little bits tired from being 81 years old. Recommend to play.
The open!!
It's like playing at the st. Andrew the open course!! Perfect layout and friendly staff! Awesome course in Illinois northern suburbs.
