It’s a little bit off of any main highways, but it’s worth the trip. The course layout is beautiful and there aren’t many flat on the greens or fairways, but if you like links golf, you will feel like you’re in Ireland. The staff is great. It’s worth playing.
Wonderful
First time playing here.
Everything about course was excellent.
Tip practice putting will help your round
Fun great golf course
Only drawback is no range to warm up. Great layout
Another Good Round
Shepherds was in good shape for an early season round. Busy with players but pace of play was great. No complaints on the course, the staff, or the overall experience.
Good Course
Course was in good shape. Greens are coming around. Fast but not quite true yet. They’re putting in new tee boxes on 6. Looks like a nice improvement. We slowed down from 7-9 but the group picked it up after seeing : groups on the same hole behind them. Shepards is one of the best in the Northern Suburbs!!
A Gem near the border
I’ve played this course probably a dozen times since my high school golf days and it has never disappointed. As a low handicapped it’s a great mix of challenging and “gettable” as it doesn’t play too long from the back tees. But when the prairie grass is high it’s a formidable course with fun layouts, and scenic shots. The greens have always been quick and in good shape, and the fairways/tee boxes as well. If the wind picks up especially, it can feel like you’re playing in a British open out there. Staff is super friendly and run a tight ship, gotta love that. Beverages/food at the halfway house is CHEAP, especially compared to courses closer to the Chicago Suburbs. Highly recommend this course to anyone looking for a fun time and a bit of a challenge.
Hidden Gem is an understatement
I play a lot of golf. Probably 40-50 rounds/year and I always try to play at least 10-15 new courses a year. This course got on my radar over the last few months as I had been seeing a lot of videos on social media calling it a hidden gem of the midwest and one of the best courses to play in Illinois. To say this is a hidden gem would be an understatement. Course was in phenomenal shape and the layout is fantastic. A lot of the fairways are very wide open and forgiving but the course is still challenging. Some long Par 5's and long Par 3s but also some very attackable 4s. The greens are very undulated, quick but also surprisingly not as difficult as expected. The staff is SO FRIENDLY. They let us hit the sim without charge to warm up. The pace was amazing (we did play on Mother's Day in the AM so nobody was there) and they had (friendly) rangers cruising the course. Food was solid, the brats are great. It was a 1 hour drive from the city but honestly I would have driven 2 hours for this course. Will 100000% be going back at least 3 or 4 more times this summer.
Great trac
Shepards never disappoints. Course is in top notch condition .
Pin placements borderline cruel. Greens fast as lightening.
Overall, great way to spend the day!!
Kiddos!!!
Awesome Place
The greens we just about perfect. Terrific course with a great staff. Had an absolute blast playing here.
Top tier course
My group of veterans has played this course for the past 5 years and every round is one for the books. Incredible course layout, price and exceptional staff. Typically play 3/-4 times a year. Will likely increase that this year. Centrally located within our foursome and route is always unobstructed by construction. If you haven’t played it, you are doing yourself a huge disservice. Play it, and you will definitely keep it a a favorite
