very nice public course
Staff was friendly , fairways had a lot of brown spots but still played good, greens were in great shape. We will play this course again.
Got done in 3 hrs 10 min the thing I question was were supposed to play with another 2 some waited a few min left without them the attendant talked to me at the turn and didn't appreciate us going without the 2 some we saw 2 people on the entire frt nine not sure why he was upset
One of the best
Absolutely love this course. There hasn't been a time I haven't seen cranes walking through.Love the layout and the new tee locations. Some greens were hurting for some attention though
South Bend's Hidden Gem!
Elbel is a fantastic course and the hidden gem of South Bend area! It's a very challenging/scenic course.
Not As Nice As Last 2 Times
Found this course thru GolfNow and found first 2 rounds played spectacular. This last round had 2 issues. Multiple fairways were soaked from over watering, and some fairways had brown or bare spots, probably from the overwatering. And play was terribly slow due to multiple 5 somes along with some novice golfers who insisted on playing the back tees. Ranger did nothing to help.
Still a good test
It has been many years since I played Elbel golf course and my memories of the course were always positive. The 3 other players had never played the course before. We were all pleased with the course and would definitely return. South Bend has a nice variety of fine city courses.
Beautiful layout
The best public course in St. Joe county. Also great value! It's nice to see the many improvements being done!
Has potential.
Good value for the price. Average in most regards with the potential to be really good with improved course maintenance.
Good Shape
Course was in great shape. Take care of the greens. nice and tight. True roll. fairways were cut to and in good shape. Rough could have been better kept. all in all, very pleasurable for the price
Rumors wrong
We were pleased that the course was in great shape. There were rumors that the course was not being taken care of...that was false. We will play again soon.
Best Muni greens I've ever played
For a muni course, the greens are some of the best I've played. Those of you who complain about this course need to realize what an awesome value this course offers. I would definitely recommend playing here.
Sure, it's not perfect, but it's lots of fun and isn't your typical boring muni with straight, back-and-forth fairways. I'm hoping the city doesn't decide to sell the place. It would be a great loss for the area.
Course is dying, too much water, to little maintenance
Used to enjoy this course, now it has become a mess. Continued over watering is killing grass. South Bend should have sold or hired someone who knows how to manage a golf course, wish Blackthorn owners would buy.
Great Municipal Course
This course is owned by the city of South Bend, and they are thinking of selling it. I hope they don't because this is a very nice muni. Carts have GPS, which is rare for any municipal course. Plenty of tee boxes, so golfers of any skill level can play. Wooded (but not too narrow) with lots of wildlife (love the egrets). You will not regret making a special effort to play Elbel Park. If the city sells, it may not be a golf course for long.
