nice layout
we played this course on a sunday morning and they were fairly busy,. the pace moved good and the greens were the best I've seen this year anywhere.
a very good value. the fairways will be nicer once the Bermuda greens up.
Greens saved the day
Driving up to a huge black barn as the clubhouse was strange but ok, let's give it a chance. It was 38 degrees and besides the employees car, I was the only vehicle. Needless to say, pace of play wasn't phenomenal. The fairways were brown but the grass was still playable. But the greens were fantastic. I couldn't believe how lush and green they were. They played a little slow with slightly longer grass than normal and some water on the greens. But the nice thing was that they all played true from the first to the last. The course was a little short even from the tips. All in all, I really enjoyed the course and will definitely look forward to playing it again.
Great course
The course was in
great shape and well maintained...I'll be coming back
Fun with surprises
The course is under new ownership and management and the changes are fantastic. Switching up tee boxes to create different angles to the greens while challenging you with shot distances and control are a few changes. Our recent game had us asking ourselves many times on going for the green or laying up because of the new tee box locations. It's nice to have those thoughts while playing. Let's face it we all can't hit 300 yard drives everyday so it's nice to have to manage your game with 230-250 yard drives on Par 4's with 300 to the pin. Yes you still have the long holes but it's so nice to play with short irons in your hands because of decent first shots on the shorter holes.
I have played courses with PGA Pro Chris Boysel running the show and he brings a new welcomed feel to the courses he runs. We will be back soon!
Needs better maintenance
High Point is a nice little track. Too bad the fairways are losing the battle to crabgrass. It was hard to tell what was and wasn't fairway on some holes.
It's a good value for the price but they really need to invest in some turf maintenance.
High Point Challenges
Course holes are arranged nicely to get you off to a good start. Watch out for number 2 par 3. It appears shorter than it is and you have a tendency to not use enough club. Fairways and T boxes were in good shape. A few of the green's are showing difficulty with the rainy season with patchy bare spots. The course offers good challenge of moderate level for golfers of novice to intermediate ability. We enjoyed our outing very much. The staff was very cordial.
Came along way...
Course has a came a long way in the past couple years.. Was impressed with the fairways & greens compared to a few years ago.
nice round for the price
Nice greens, nice fairways, well priced. Just an overall good course to play.
Great Value Course!!
High Point is a great course around Lexington that is in good condition, great value, fun course to go out and play 18 with friends.
If your a good player, its not hard at all and if your a weekend golfer, its a fun course with challenges but not overly hard.
Been playing HP for around 13 years....I come back every now again to play. Fun times.
The Reason "High" Is In The Name
Not that it's a deterrent to play this course, but 8 of the greens are higher or lower than the tee boxes to an extreme. And a long downhill slope awaits your tee shot on #4 if it veers even slightly to the right of the fairway.
We've played this course several times over the last couple of years and this is the best shape we've ever found it in, even with recent rain making some of the areas around the greens a little squishy. Greens were in great shape - the balls rolled true and fast. On a drier day I'm sure the fairways would have allowed more roll.
One big change was the women's tee on #9. It used to be an almost impossible shot over a deep ravine. At least on this day that was taken out of play with the tee on the hill closest to the green.
Fun Course
Very fun course, can be tricky if you don't know where to go, there's lots of chances for par-breakers and pars, but if you miss in the wrong spot it can get ugly very quickly. Course conditions were pretty good all things considered, a few barer spots in the fairways, the course played fast and firm, greens were pretty close to flat with little movement.
Good course for the money
Thank goodness it's been raining so much. The fairways are starting to look better, the greens are always tip-top, and it's a nice course. For the price, it's a no-brainier. Very little traffic so rapid pace of play. I've always liked HP. Get the fairways in better condition and I'd rate it even higher.
Couple rough spots, overall great value
Around the green there were some rough areas were the grass wasn't grown... Great people running the course and people on the course we're as well. Definitely a place where you can go out and shoot pretty low. Greens were in good shape and ball was rolling well. I'll be back!
Cheap course, nice layout
It's a pretty course for the money, however you tend to run into a lot of people with no golf etiquette (i.e. Jeans and sleeveless shirts and not letting faster players play through), however for the cost it's worth it as long as you don't get stuck behind someone.
Poor condition...including fairways
This course goes down more every year..bridges and fairways need major repair
Disappointing
We chose this course because of a great deal from Golfnow. We went to the course and checked in and everything was great and they sent us to the first tee. After we finished the third hole, we were deluged by a scramble tournament. They had a shotgun start and they put two groups on each tee. We played the first three holes in 20 minutes and the last six holes in two and a half hours. We walked off the course after nine holes. The condition of the fairways was terrible. You could have a hard pan lie right in the middle of the fairway. The greens were excellent. Overall, it was not a good experience, luckily, we didn't invest a lot of money into playing
Good for the money
The greens were in excellent condition, but fairways were in pretty awful condition with lots of dirt patches. This made a normally pretty easy course play quite a bit harder because drives hit dead center of some fairways would bounce off into the trees.
And watch out for major beginners on this course because of the price. I've often been stuck behind groups who take multiple mulligans on nearly every shot and do not let you play through...
A Good course
This is a great course especially for the price. The big fault with this course is that the fairways have not been taken care of very well. They are hard and barren. But the greens are the best in the Lexington, in my opinion. So soft and green, its like walking on a memory foam carpet. It's a fun and very pretty course.
SIngle Player
It is good for playing as single player.
Not so busy and very reasonable price!
Highpoint
Fairways are thin and patchy
Greens are quick and in nice shape
Tee blocks are good to nice
The fairways and general condition lets this nice course down.
Good value for under $20
