Beautiful course with great scenery
Connemara is by far one of the nicest courses in Lexington that isn't over $50 to play. It is wide open and the course is in beautiful condition. There are only 2 things that bothered me; the greens are a bit small (but nice) and there aren't any yardage markers that are visible from far away (no blue, white, or red on the cart paths or stakes in the fairway). There are three green shamrocks on the cart paths that indicate 200, 150, and 100 yards. The people there are the nicest you'll find anywhere, especially the head pro Trey. Very friendly and accomadating. I would play this course a million times over!
Great Course
If you have not been to Connemara in a couple years, WOW what a change! The club house is Top Shelf and the course is now as nice as any in the BlueGrass and better than most!
Give them a try you will be glad you did.
Not your parents Connemara.
Since Dr. Lyons has taken over the course has been completely overhauled. Decent range, though not very long. The fairways and greens are in great condition. The rough is about 1 1/2 inches deep which makes for a challenge to find the ball if you miss the fairway, but also provides a good challenge as well. Tee boxes are in decent shape as well.
The cost/value of green fees is a little off ($38) but with golfnow's discounts and savings, there are always deals to be had.
If you find a discount I highly recommend giving Connemara a go.
Good for intermediate play
Very nice course wide open fairways and fast greens sand traps minimal very rough outside fairway will play again
Very Good Course.
This course was in great shape. Due to all of the rain in Kentucky, the rough was very thick as is the case with all courses.
Nice course.
This was my first outing this year and I was playing with new clubs so I didn't play very well, but the course was very nice. Got a great price with the Hot Deal and the staff were very friendly. Greens and fairway were excellent. The rough was very long and we lost at least three balls because we could not find them in the rough. Would have finished in under four hours but we caught up with a slow foursome at 14 that had several groups backed up by hole 18.
Shamrock bunker definately cool!
Par 71, adequate lenth from multiple tee boxes. The course is quite open, but the rough definately penalizes an errant tee shot. Moderate elevation changes from tee to green provides for a change to most courses in the area. The greens were firm but receptive. Moderate speed but rolled smoothe.
Only one complaint
I would pay money to play this course again. However, the fairways were too long. Much greater in length than any other course I've played this year.
course has blind shots a plenty
Rough was so high you had to walk directly over it to see it. Mamy holes had blind shots so ball hunting was difficult at best. Greens need attention saw ant hills on many greens.
cannot recommend course if conditions remain the same
Good course at a great value
Very good link course at a great value. Renovated club house looks awesome.
A nice links style course.
This is a nice links style course and when I usually play here there is some wind. I would also love to see if they let it play hard and fast in the summertime like a true links course. I would love to see it require more bump and runs into the greens. I have only played it when it has been wet after some rain storms have been through central KY the day before.
Great course!
This is a great course for beginners it's open and forgiving. The course is in good shape and will only get better.
Terrible Condition, even worse Staff
The course was in terrible condition, and not to mention how unfriendly the staff was. Definitely not worth the money and i only paid $16. Save your money and go to a course that is worth it. They charge Kearney Hill prices for a Meadowbrook course. The carts were nice, but that's the only redeeming factor of the course.
Always a pleasure to play
Course is always in great shape and the staff is friendly and always smiling. Plus the covered carts are a good option to have on those colder days. There are some easy holes and some sneaky challenging ones too.
Great Course, Fairly Priced
We used to play Connemara many years ago, but it never ranked high on our list and was always just minimally maintained. With new ownership over the last several years, you can tell that they are putting a lot of time, money, and effort into the course now. Probably some of the best greens in the area, and they have added many features to the layout to improve both how the course plays as well as the aesthetics. We played this round early this year, but course was still in good playable shape. Should be spectacular in another month or so.
Since this has been taken over by Alltech this course has improved dramatically.
This course was in great shape for fall in Kentucky. I think its still a bit pricy for the location, but considering all of the improvements it definitely will be in my rotation moving forward.
Fairways are in great shape.
Played with a few buddies December 17, and the course was in great shape.
This is a great value
The course is well kept and is one of the more accommodating in the area. I have tried some of the city courses and they were not as friendly as Connemara.
Great value.
Well maintained, and much improved over a couple of years ago. Alltech's attention to detail will continue to improve this course.
Meh
The course price does not match the quality of the course. Greens were rock hard making for a frustrating round. Course could probably use an upgrade on the irrigation system as well.
This round was played on 4/7/13, when the temps had still barely cracked 40 in Lexington, KY. I'm not sure what course would have been up to reviewers standards at this time of year given the weather. Playing exactly 2 weeks after this, we found the course to be in good early season shape. Find me another public course in this area that has greens that roll true, and bunkers this well maintained. The staff, for their part, were phenomenal, something that is missing from the majority of courses I play around this part. Tee boxes could use a little work, yes, but when we played it looked as though they were in process of working on some of those. Not sure this was a fair review from someone with obviously country club standards paying a mere $16 to hack it around.
