Golf
The best course most friendly people ever met fairways excellent, greens unbelievable remember this was Dec 21,five star as far as I am cocerned would be a member if didn't like playing different courses.. Again friendless people ever and staff.
Super Course
Course is in great shape. Fairways like a carpet. Staff made me feel welcome. Senior tees very fair. Course is as good as some resort courses I have played.
Best course in area
Ive played 10+ different courses in the louisville area using golf now. This one so far is #1. First time playing the course, staff explained how to get around some tricky areas of the course. Good mix of sand and water. Fairways were in glorious shape. Greens were receptive but fast. Didnt happen to grab any food or anything so cant speak to that. The golf now location isnt correct so make sure you enter it into maps. Bomb course. Cant say enough good about it.
A layout that takes some getting used to.
Overall a nice course in terms of condition but it has some awkward holes. Don't get me wrong, a friend and I had fun as we scrambled it in +1, I just found a few holes awkward.
Do yourself a favor...
...and come play this hidden gem of a golf course. 5 stars all the way. Was a member here 25 years ago and it was just as I remember. Very challenging. Course in great shape. Greens are AWESOME. Teaching my grandson to play golf. Played twilight $32. Grandson $10. We had the entire course to ourselves. Doesn't get any better than this.
Tony
Course was pretty good shape for early start of season . This is very well kept up and very challenging .
wet time of year
Just finished raining three hours before I played. Considering that, the course was very challenging. $25 on Sunday was a fair deal. Temp 51° and foggy - cart path only which is tipical this time of year at every course.
nice course. need a little tlc
nice course but need some rain. some fairways were burned up
Terrible condition
For being Country Club this course was the worst course I have ever played on in this area. The only thing good about it was the greens. And even there the hole was poorly put in. I will never go there again, even if I got a free pass. It was a waste of my time and money.
Solid course, but fairways need time
We played this course for around $30 and had a great time. The place was vacant, save for a few gentlemen eating and drinking in the pro shop and one loner who played behind us for a few holes before playing through. The rough areas and greens were spectacular and it was evident they had been well maintained. The rain we had experienced in the week leading up to made for a little soggy conditions in the morning, but the back nine seemed to be drying as we made it there. The carts were clean and fully gassed and the staff was nice and inviting. An attendant brought our cart to our car as we unloaded and was there to receive it after we finished. The only downside was the Bermuda fairways that had not come in yet. This made for a tough scoring round, but we had fun regardless. Overall, we had a great experience.
Tight fairways
I was a little too free with all the stars but for the Golfnow special I got, it was truly a great deal...
I would like to had seen a prettier course and with a bit of maintenance, I'm sure this course could be stunningly gorgeous. Makes me wonder if there might be some financial issues or if it's just a lack of good management? I don't know. But I did enjoy this course, a lot. And for the Golfnow discount, it was a great deal.
Nice course but ragged in spots
Played about my worst round of the summer here but that wasn't the course's fault. I've played it a couple of times prior to this and it's a good layout. Spotty fairways and some worse than spotty. On 16 my playing partner hit his tee shot in the middle of the fairway and we couldn't find it because of the massive clumps of weeds which were about 10 inches tall. Mostly it's good though. #9 green had some problems but the rest were fine. Chalk it up to the tough winter we had.
Pretty course
I found that this course is a god challenge and more than worth the money to play.
The staff and members were very welcoming!!
Don't waste your money
My wife and I played this course late morning, and were told when we checked in that it was not too crowded. We teed off on No. 1, and were immediately behind a 5-some. After 3 holes of not being asked to play through we called the clubhouse, and were re-routed to No. 14. We played 14 through 18, and then the front 9 again. The pro-shop tried to be accomodating, and I appreciate their efforts.
But after finishing the front 9 we had had enough. The fairways were basically non-existant. They were more dirt than grass. The greens were in good shape, but the rest of the course was in tough shape.
Needs attention
This is a fairly short course, with good greens and tees but the fairways are simply terrible -- no grass.
Understand this course has had ongoing grass troubles but this has to be the worst.
I'm sorry you didn't have a nice visit. Actually 2014 is the only poor year we've had for fairways in my 5 years at SCC. After the worst winter Kentucky has seen in 30 years we lost 5 of our fairways and had to re-seed as a result. It made for a difficult 2014 but we are aiming for full recovery in 2015. We'd love to have you back this summer to try our place out again.
A few notes...
This course features rolling hills and plenty of trees that come into play on several holes, mostly in forcing a blind tee shot. This makes for a very challenging golf course. I have no real qualms with these blind shots as they do add character and strategy.
However, combine these features with the fact that this course has but 1 yardage marker per hole, frustration ensues. I spoke to an employee following the round to ask why there were no 200 or 100 yard markers. He said the committee just voted to REMOVE markers. I'm not a fan of that at all, and certainly cost me few strokes. The lack of yardage markers multiplied by the blind shots took a great deal of pleasure out of this round. If I have to shoot over a row of trees, fine, bring it on. But if you ask me to shoot over those trees and don't tell me how far to carry the ball.... I feel like you're setting me up for failure. And being mean.
The course seems to be cramped, with tee boxes within a short toss of a golf ball from the previous green. The signage of the cart path is often confusing/poorly marked as well.
I'm the staff member you spoke to. Since your visit we have opted to once again post yardage markers from both 100 and 150 yards. I appreciate your honesty and your recognition of both the good and the not so good at our Club. We're always looking to improve and your feedback has help. Thanks very much and we hope to see you back at SCC.
A great track
Have played here many times and always a great time. Greens fantastic and with all the old trees makes a great view. A big lake that holes skirt around makes a real challenge,
Very much appreciate the positive feedback sir! We look forward to hosting you again in 2015!
Awesome Greens!
Not long at all but Very Fun. Greens were amazing, especially for this time of year. Everyone was very friendly. Going back soon!
I'm terribly sorry you didn't have a good time while here. After the worst winter in Kentucky in 30 years we've re-seeded the 5 fairways that we'd lost and have maintained the high standard for putting surfaces which we've always had at Shelbyville CC. It pains me to see such a disparaging review of the Club I know and love. If there's ever a chance to change your mind about us we'd love to have the chance.
