Swan Point Yacht & Country Club
About
Situated along the shores of the Potomac River in southern Maryland, Swan Point Country Club has been ranked as one of the top 10 golf courses in the state. Golfers who enjoy playing in the Carolinas will feel right at home on this course. Water or marshland comes into play on 12 holes and there is an abundance of pine trees. The course is also home to a variety of wildlife including osprey, bald eagles, and deer. In addition to the water, strategically placed bunkers add another challenging element to the golf course. The par-5 fourth hole is considered the signature, mostly due to the challenging island green. Proper club selection is key in order to maneuver past the lake that runs along the entire left side of the fairway. The hole is especially hard on windy days.

Beware GolfNow hot deal
The course itself is quite good although it’s a long way from civilization. My main beef was with GolfNow. They advertised a hot deal at $43. In the fine print, it mentions that it’s $20 additional for the cart fee. Of course I didn’t see the fine print and when I showed up to check in, they let me know it was $24 for the cart (somehow they charged $4 in taxes) for a total of $67. It’s $47 in the teetimes book for a senior and the normal price without GolfNow is $61. Won’t be using GolfNow anymore.
Good course to walk
Greens were not in great shape this summer, but have come back to life this fall. Flat course and decently challenging while also being open without much tree blockage. If you walk, use an umbrella for sun. Food items are on and expensive, I'd recommend stopping at "Bubba's Place" for food and drinks on the way or bring your own. Staff onsite are very friendly.
*I don't pay the full price cost, I buy the hot deals. I don't think $70+ is appropriate for this course. I don't mind paying the $40-45.
Greens vs price
Greens were really bad condition but still expensive cost
What happened Swan Point?
Greens were beyond awful. Many ground bee holes on every green. The sod on the greens looked like half dried and ripped up carpet and there was no sand (only dirt) in the sand traps. This used to be my favorite course. I won’t go back. Shame what happened to the course.
GREAT COURSE - GREEENS IN TERRIBLE SHAPE
We've played Swan Point before....it's a great layout. The primary issue is that the vast majority of greens are in TERRIBLE SHAPE, to where trying to score is basically impossible. In addition, no one at the course mentioned anything about this, which from a professional standpoint would have at least made it understandable.
Greens are in terrible shape. Course superintendent must enjoy looking at his insect destroyed greens because there appears to be no effort to kill the insects. A number of bunkers need major repair. Carts have gps but there is no navigation screen to tell you yardages or tell you where you can;t drive. Who has ever heard of such nonsense? Cart shut down on me a number of times when I wasn't near a tee box or green.
Disappointed
Swan point was my favorite course to play for years and was always worth paying more than other courses. Now the greens are in horrible conditions that would be expected with a 20 dollar round. They are also infested with ground bees the are leaving literal mounds of dirt on the green with quarter size holes. Fairways are in good condition but I would of appreciated the heads up on the greens condition or discounted prices. I will not be going back till I hear that the greens are back in good condition or they drop their prices.
Beautiful and Challenging Course
This was our first time golfing there and it was after a big storm. The ground was wet but yet the course was still in good condition. Had to do cart path only. It was beautiful with great grass to hit off of without paying over $100 per person per round. We will definitely come back.
Worth it
Swan point is a well layed out course with some challenges off the tee box on a few holes as well as a handful of approach shots. Fairways have some dead spots year round and if it rains just stay away for a few days. Greens are 50/50 on condition but still roll true and smooth (when not aerated which they do alot more then most courses) but price for quality makes it the go to course in the area.
Fun course with challenging but fair holes
Great course but played a little wet after rain earlier in the week. Purchased round on golf now, but didn't notice it was for walking with no
Option to add cart. At clubhouse they charged us $24 each and it was cart path. Golf now price should include cart free with green fee.
$40 is a deal. $64 is not a deal.
Greens were in great shape. I saw no problem with greens.
How were the greens? They've been bad my last few times there but getting better
Great Course
Fun course in good shape. The greens rolled true, and the back 9 had some beautiful views. The greens are a fun challenge since they are so well protected with bunkers and water. The hot deal did not include cart, but it was a great value still. It was a long drive from the DC area, but definitely worth the drive. The clubhouse is older, but kept up nicely. Cart path only was tough, but not a knock on the course. Definitely will be back.
Great Course!
The only issue I had this round, other than my swing, was the amount of groups on the course. Dealt with a lengthy backup at each tee box. Ended up cutting my round at 9 holes since I was already approaching 3 hours. No big deal, I think everyone just decided to go golfing that day!
Could be great, needs some improvement
You just need to know a few things before heading out.
The good- design of course, scenery, and convenient snack bar.
The bad- some greens were not in good shape, sand bunkers were hard as rocks, some areas of the course were muddy, grass in rough is long and hard to find balls.
Totally agree...the fact that no one mentioned the condition of the greens is very unprofessional
