Swan Point Yacht & Country Club
About
Situated along the shores of the Potomac River in southern Maryland, Swan Point Country Club has been ranked as one of the top 10 golf courses in the state. Golfers who enjoy playing in the Carolinas will feel right at home on this course. Water or marshland comes into play on 12 holes and there is an abundance of pine trees. The course is also home to a variety of wildlife including osprey, bald eagles, and deer. In addition to the water, strategically placed bunkers add another challenging element to the golf course. The par-5 fourth hole is considered the signature, mostly due to the challenging island green. Proper club selection is key in order to maneuver past the lake that runs along the entire left side of the fairway. The hole is especially hard on windy days.

great layout,very interesting holes
greens were in very bad shape, too many bare spots
Always a pleasure to play. A few greens looked and felt stressed. I could tell visually and when reparing ball marks. I expect them to improve.
Swan Point is one of my favorite upscale courses in the area along with Mataponi Springs. I wasn't striking the ball well for holes 4 thru 9 and the course appropriately penalized me for this. Ball striking improved on the back 9 and I hit more of those nice fairways and greens and shot a respectable score. The white tees offer good chances to reach a couple of the par 5's in two, including the island green on hole 4, which I have eagled one time in the past. I plan to play Swan Point more in late Summer and in the Fall including a couple of charity tournaments being held there that I have signed up for.
Scenic Layout
Reminded me of a Low Country, South Carolina golf course. Great views of the wetlands and river. Although the water/wetlands were in play for most of the holes, the small, well-protected greens were more of a challenge. Nice staff. Great value.
Great course for all skill levels
My coworkers and I play this course almost every week. For Less than $30 I don't think you can beat it anywhere. The amenities are equally great. Electric cart, cooler with ice, and paved fairways. The fairways and greens are in great condition and the pace of place has always been great. A mix of challenging and easy-ish holes make for a great time.
Good value for $30, but I wouldn't pay more
At $30, Swan Point is a decent value. The fairways and rough were consistent, though the greens and bunkers needed work. The fairways were manicured nicely, and easy to hit off of. On a bad note, there was some sort of wasp infestation going on, which affected about a half dozen greens, maybe more. They were huge bugs that didn't seem aggressive toward people, but still, it was uncomfortable trying to putt with them flying all around you, not to mention the countless holes they had burrowed into the green surfaces. The greens not infested were in average condition. Bunkers were inconsistent as some had fluffy sand while others were just hardpan. I'm sure they'll be on top of it, as I've seen Swan Point play much nicer than this over the years. For the time being, I can't justify paying more than the $30 I paid to play it in it's current condition.
Great value for the money, worth the drive from Northern VA.
I enjoyed the course very much. Had some challenging holes, but allowed you to score.
Feels Like a Resort Style Course
When you play at Swan Point you can easily forget your not too far from home. The course feels more like a course you would play in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Great conditions and attention to detail. A nice plus are the coolers on each golf cart with ice already in them, a must on a 90+ humid summer day.
"Must play course"
My wife and I played the course in Feb.2013, thought it was really nice and would come back. We were not disappointed...after all that rain, I expected wet areas, heavy sand bunkers mushie greens, cart path only. None of that... The course was in fantastic shape. We'll make that 1hour 40 minute drive again...
Pretty course with almost no players
The course is in great shape (not too surprising given the great weather we've had so far this year), though angry golfers seem to have taken their putting frustrations out on the greens. The strangest thing about the experience was the lack of other golfers. If you like to be able to set your own pace of play, this course midday on a weekday (we played it from 10:00 to 2:00 on an admittedly warm Wednesday) might be a great place to try.
Swan Point Golf.
As always Swan Point was in ecxcellent shape. Very friendly staff. This was an afternoon of golf spent very well.
Be Prepared for Lots of Water and Sand
Tough course to play if no one in your group has played it before. For a lefty with a slice (when I can't slow my swing down) there were several tee shots that found the water on the opening 9 with water to the left on several holes. The Sand Traps around several of the greens were PGA/USGA like - deep bunkers - if you don't have a Sand game you'll have a tough time getting out of a couple of them. Very Challenging and very pleasing course to the eye - layout is wonderful - staff was great - original cart had no get up and go so they ran us out a new cart at the first green and we were off and running - I think you need at least one person that has seen the course in your foursome so you have a better idea of where you need to place your shots - a lot of doglegs - will play again and the rate via Golf Now is great.
excellent fairways and greens
Fairways are in great shape, all players in group commented favorably on course condition. Greens rolled true and speed was good. The course is in excellent condition and you cannot find a better deal in southern Maryland. Super friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Great layout!!!
Great layout!!! Awesome view of river!! But greens need attention slow, fairways need some maintenance!!! For the value is good!!!
Great holes
The course was in excellent shape. Many of the holes, which involved some water, required strategic golf shots either to the fairway or raised greens.
Nice layout but very flat
This course has its high and low points. Most of the fairways and greens are in great condition but there are so parts that need help! Greens were very slow and flat when I was playing in late april. I would like to get back again because it is on a great piece of land.
Great value for the money
If you play conservative early you can score. If you get too aggressive too soon you will be in for a long day. Fairway and Greens were in great shap. If you can't pinch a wedge here you need to take up tennis.
Great course, great views
This is a hidden gem in the area...Good conditions and friendly staff. Every hole is a signiture hole (except the 6th, way too funky green) otherwise course is great...NIce layout great routing....
great course
great course layout very fast greens and some hard pin placement but descent rates for this course liked everything about the experience
Great course
Bermuda fairways are almost all the way green. 2 more weeks and they will be very nice. Greens are much better this year then the past couple of years. I hope they keep up the good work.
