Swan Point Yacht & Country Club
About
Situated along the shores of the Potomac River in southern Maryland, Swan Point Country Club has been ranked as one of the top 10 golf courses in the state. Golfers who enjoy playing in the Carolinas will feel right at home on this course. Water or marshland comes into play on 12 holes and there is an abundance of pine trees. The course is also home to a variety of wildlife including osprey, bald eagles, and deer. In addition to the water, strategically placed bunkers add another challenging element to the golf course. The par-5 fourth hole is considered the signature, mostly due to the challenging island green. Proper club selection is key in order to maneuver past the lake that runs along the entire left side of the fairway. The hole is especially hard on windy days.

Better than being at work!
Can't beat the price, same as local muni courses but far more fun and challenging. Worth the drive!
Great round
Great day of golf. Lucky day with low course traffic for late afternoon round. Course was in great shape, pace of play was good.
Good course
Good course and a great layout. Lots of water and sand. I was hoping for a course that was closer to the shoreline of the Potomac because that's what a fellow golfer told me so, I was a little disappointed in that. Plenty of wildlife though. The greens were fast and firm but, the fairways were recently aerated and dry. They need to water the fairways more to get them in better shape. Overall nice course and I look forward to playing there again.
Worth the drive!!
First visit to the course and was not disappointed.
Overall the course was in pretty good shape. A few greens were burned and bare in spots only, but otherwise no complaints. Players at this course seem to take pride in their course and repair ball marks and divots, this is a real plus. The scenery is unmatched for beauty, especially on the back 9. Had the good fortune to see and photograph a juvenile Bald Eagle (not white plumage yet) and the courses favorite Osprey.
This course plays much like the coastal course it is with an added Florida like flavor, especially in the 98 degree heat today provided.
Highly recommend playing this SoMD gem of a course!!!
Good, but issues
First off- I love this course! The layout is challenging but fair.
However, there are spots in many fairways that are burnt and no sign of recovery- granted this is the first time I've seen it there, but disappointing on an otherwise good place to play.
Food and beverage are awesome- great beers on tap for the 19th hole and decent apps.
SPGC is still one of my favorite courses and I'll be back-
Hidden Gem
I'm hesitant to share the great experience I had today at Swan Point because I'd like to keep this place a secret! Tons of wildlife (Herons, Turtles, Ducks, Deer, Osprey, etc), great views and fun/challenging layout. Water on 12 holes, so bring your A-game. Pro shop gentleman shook our hand, introduced himself and spent 10 minutes explaining the course. Then met us when we returned to tell us about lunch and the "best" way to get back to DC. It was a great day and only a 1 hour drive from Alexandria VA (at 6:00 a.m.). I'll definitely be back! Only negative: Bring bug spray.
Will be back in Summer
I've played a lot of Carolina golf to include several other Arthur Hills courses. This is among the most fun and challenging. The Bermuda grass fairways are dormant right now, but I'm excited to see what some warm air and sun will do for them. Very well manicured and fair to play.
My dings on this course are:
1: greens were just aerated, a necessary evil I know but would have been nice to know.
2: yardage books. Make them. Give them out. Sell them. Something-just give visiting golfers a chance since cell service is sketchy (for phone GPS users).
3: on the food- yes it was Easter but we were turned away from being able to buy anything other than chips our candy bars while there was a full spread buffet sitting there getting cold with no customers. It looked and smelled delicious while my stomach grumbled.
I'll come back again for sure. Would love to see this course in summer. It really is a displaced Carolina coastal course.
Great Course
Real nice course great view long holes makeable greens real nice fairways.
Good value
Nice course. Challenging but fair layout with beautiful views over water on many holes. Never crowded on weekdays (almost empty). In pretty good shape, especially considering the cost. Great value.
Well maintained.
Fairways, tee boxes and greens excellent. Why can't all courses maintain the ball washers like this course?? Great layout with water everywhere. Only one complaint is that I didn't have time to play 36. Practice could be in better condition.
Always Worth the Drive
I've been playing Swan Point at least a few times a year since 2001, but this was the first time in 2014. It's still my favorite MD course. I love putting on fast greens but it had been so long that it took me too long to adjust. The course handed me my hat on this day but I have no complaints. I'm now determined to get back down there while the weather is still nice in order to redeem myself. The bunkers were in excellent shape, the tee-boxes and fairways were better than one might expect for the last weekend of Summer, and the greens were good and as stated above, fast.
Back to its former Glory
The layout has always been great but the course was in excellent condition from last year. Two thumbs up to the maintainence crew.
Picking the right time
played at twilight for a great price. Only problem we ran into was a twosome in front of us who brought their kids on the course who were under the age of 7. Other than that course played hard and fast and make you think about where to place the ball.
The ride is worth every penny!
From staff, practice facilities (GRASS tee box driving range), layout and overall beauty this is the best course you will play for the money hands down. I've been playing here for 20 years and its easily in the best shape it has ever been in. Huge Respect to the STAFF! With unreal scenery and tons of wildlife (bald eagles are common to see) Swan Point is a must PLAY!
Great course and better service
Good track and the customer service experience was excellent.
beautiful in great shape
Course was lush and green. No wait on tees. Its still in the middle of no where. However worth the ride if you have the time.
staff was friendly. make sure you take snacks and drinks . turn cafe was closed
Fun Course to Play
I have seen the course in better shape (3-4 yrs ago), but it still looks fine and very enjoyable to play. Yes, the 6th green still has that one dirt patch. A lot of twosomes out playing, so pace if play was very good.
Wildlife
The round was great an I love Swan Point. Thanks for asking.
Thanks
First about the staff. Of all the courses I have played, no where else can out do the staff of Swan Point. I am truly impressed every time I play there. Thanks.
Now the course, I love the layout but do have to mention the greens, They need work.
Overall I will continue to play there and will recommend anyone who hasn't to give it a try.
