The course is suitable for them, not for golf right now Photo submitted by DrOldSchool on 05/06/2018
Dee leave it or not?
Shot a 29 on the front and was one over going into the last par 5. I was 202 yds out on my second shot and I chose a gap wedge to make sure I wouldn’t be short.... ( to be continued)!
Awesome October outing for $32. Treat yourself and post your own embellishment for free!
Golf Course Condition
I have played this course before and it has always been in "great" condition....but yesterday it was in bad shape, the fairways were bare in places and the grass was too long in alot of places....to me it looked like the ground crew has been on vacation.
Good course, bad conditions.
Challedon is a nice course with some interesting holes. Unfortunately the conditions were not great, the course was extremely wet after the tremendous amount of rain we have had lately. Even though we had carts, it was cart path only, which was understandable based on how wet it was. Course was very busy, first nice weather in many days, and pace of play was much slower than usual. Overall it was still good to be able to get out and play a round.
A Regular To Play
I play at Links of Challedon several times a year. It's a fun layout with plenty of opportunities to score. And, the staff is always nice...and will work to accommodate you as best they can. This was my first time playing the course this year, and I was a bit surprised that it wasn't as "lush" as it typically is. Maybe it was because of the amount of rain we've had, or maybe something else; but, the fairways had crusted areas and dirt spots throughout. Other than that, it was in decent shape--not to what I generally expect, but certainly playable. I'm sure management will get it back to the pristine condition I've grown to expect!
Pace of play was terrific 3:20 round
Although it was in the nineties heat wise, the greens were still healing from being punched. Course was in great shape.
Treat yourself to one of the best courses in MD.
Awesome course in excellent condition. Staff and amenities are top notch.
New management has done well with this course
If you haven't played Links at Challedon, or you played it in the past, give it another go. new management has really taken it to another level.
Great layout
This course has a very good layout. It has a great balance between being challenging and somewhat forgiving. The staff is friendly. Very nice area. For some reason the greens and tee boxes were in very poor shape even with plenty of rain recently. I have played other courses recently that are in fantastic condition. For that reason I think the value for the cost of a round ($70)is fair at best. Also we had a group that was behind us move in front of us after the turn which cist us about 20 to 30 minutes.
Rough is tough
The green was very slow after so much of rain but not too bad.
But the rough is so deep that we couldn't find our balls.
Need to be cut shorter.
Loved this Course!
Challedon was a great course to play! The staff was very friendly and helpful, the course was well kept and the food at the grill was terrific! I highly recommend a visit if you're looking to play in the area.
Great course, super friendly staff
Can't say enough good things, not only about the golf course but the people that work there as well. We had a great time and will be back soon.
Faded Memories
I used to play this course a lot when it opened in the 1990s. It was even our home course my senior year at Linganore. What was in great shape then has only become a disaster now. I last played it 10 or so years ago and while I found the houses to be a bit of an eyesore compared to when it opened and nothing was there, few encroach on the holes. But that's not the problem... it's the disgustingly poor condition of the course, and the gull to charge full-freight to play it. Even $40 at twilight on a Sunday was an absolute joke.
It truly pains me to write this as I have great memories of the place. Heck, I shot 71 today and I'm complaining about it here. But look at the tee box in the attached photo. All of them were like that. The greens were recently punched and were sandy. But even if they weren't they were ugly and patchy and slow. The fairways and rough wasn't much better - there was at least grass on it but it was pretty patchy and ugly too.
Sadly, they were having some kind of open house event when I arrived to play it. They let people run around on carts and get in the way as looky-loos while I played as well. With that kind of condition and management, the course will now just live in my memories of what it used to be until I see/hear otherwise. When I am back to visit I'll play elsewhere as there is no shortage of options in the area, and recommend you do the same, especially for the price they were charging, or even for a cheap hot deal it's not even worth it. Sad, very sad.
Challedon Needs Work
The greens had recently been aerated when I played and putts would stop in the little holes from aeration. Most tee boxes were bare with no grass. Many fairways were thin with little grass even though some areas of rough were quite thick. Greens were OK. I won't be back anytime soon, even with a Hot Deal.
Course conditions
The course was in lousy shape. The tee boxes were horrible. Fairways we're in okay shape. Greens were patchy and very bumpy. They need to be rolled. Will probably not return for some time.
I enjoy this course
Every time my friends and I play here, we really have fun. Some time, I underestimate the lay out the fairway but that is not the case. There seems have some kinds of challenges which I dare and like
