The course is suitable for them, not for golf right now Photo submitted by DrOldSchool on 05/06/2018
Faded Memories
I used to play this course a lot when it opened in the 1990s. It was even our home course my senior year at Linganore. What was in great shape then has only become a disaster now. I last played it 10 or so years ago and while I found the houses to be a bit of an eyesore compared to when it opened and nothing was there, few encroach on the holes. But that's not the problem... it's the disgustingly poor condition of the course, and the gull to charge full-freight to play it. Even $40 at twilight on a Sunday was an absolute joke.
It truly pains me to write this as I have great memories of the place. Heck, I shot 71 today and I'm complaining about it here. But look at the tee box in the attached photo. All of them were like that. The greens were recently punched and were sandy. But even if they weren't they were ugly and patchy and slow. The fairways and rough wasn't much better - there was at least grass on it but it was pretty patchy and ugly too.
Sadly, they were having some kind of open house event when I arrived to play it. They let people run around on carts and get in the way as looky-loos while I played as well. With that kind of condition and management, the course will now just live in my memories of what it used to be until I see/hear otherwise. When I am back to visit I'll play elsewhere as there is no shortage of options in the area, and recommend you do the same, especially for the price they were charging, or even for a cheap hot deal it's not even worth it. Sad, very sad.
Challedon Needs Work
The greens had recently been aerated when I played and putts would stop in the little holes from aeration. Most tee boxes were bare with no grass. Many fairways were thin with little grass even though some areas of rough were quite thick. Greens were OK. I won't be back anytime soon, even with a Hot Deal.
Course conditions
The course was in lousy shape. The tee boxes were horrible. Fairways we're in okay shape. Greens were patchy and very bumpy. They need to be rolled. Will probably not return for some time.
I enjoy this course
Every time my friends and I play here, we really have fun. Some time, I underestimate the lay out the fairway but that is not the case. There seems have some kinds of challenges which I dare and like
Tee boxes and greens were horrible. Overall course was not in very good shape
It's been 20-years!
Last time I played here was 20 years ago the day after I shot my career round. Needless to say Challedon brought me back down to earth. Two decades later I was excited to find they'd improved the course in all facets.
Love the layout. For Winter and early season, the greens rolled true. I most certainly don’t want to be in the wrong section of some of those greens. Diabolical would be a word for some of those greens. The roll out is annoying, in a good golf kinda way. For us amateurs the course allowed us to get a little aggressive on some of the par 5s with a good drive. I reached two of them in 2. The demand to put the tee shots on some of the 4s in the right spot makes your concentration meter go up. 4, 5 & 6 you better be sharp or a big number is coming. Man you have to be really confident with that tee shot on 6.
Back side brings you home with chances to score, but if you relax, it's like a boa constrictor, each breath you take is closer to a large number Lol.
Had a great time, and yes I'm coming back to play. If you see me, don't gamble, it's not worth it for you. :)

Challedon has come a long way!
My buddy and I played Challedon yesterday for the first time in a year or so. A previous experience was forgettable. But, this time, I could not give the club more praise. It looked fantastic driving through the neighborhood and did not disappoint up close. While the grass was generally dormant, the conditions were as good as I have seen in the area lately. The course layout is always great, but coupled with the current conditions and upgrades to the clubhouse and practice area, Challedon is now a hidden gem. It will be in the rotation for 2018! Nice work!
Recommend
I've been going to challedon fpr a few years now and it never seems to dissapoint. Staff generally friendly and I always get a good deal on the internet. I go 25 miles to play here and worth it, everytime.
Some holes easy but some holes forces you to manage your play carefuly
I will probably go 2-3 times a month. I like to mix it up with other courses. But "The Links At The Calledon" is one of my favorite courses,
Great course
Course in extreme good condition for time of year.
Greens well kept up and fast. Very busy but pace of play was good.
Great course
Great staff, great conditions greens were average but the course has a very scenic layout. It’s about an hour drive but I plan on playing again.
Slow Play
Course was a good shape, nice layout and very friendly staff. Disappointing to play an over 5 hour round on a Friday starting in late morning.

How can you complain when your green fees are $10 bucks. We usually pay $69 when we play in the AM. Overall nice course. Greens nice decent sand in the bunkers.
