The course is suitable for them, not for golf right now Photo submitted by DrOldSchool on 05/06/2018
Very nice course
The course was in excellent shape for the most part. Some traps needed more sand. Greens were excellent, medium/fast. I would play here all the time if green fees were lower. I paid $23 with a hot deal on golf now, normally their regular fee is too high for me.
Nice course, great staff and grest value.
I viewed this course with trepidation as it was so far out of the way and it was sensibly priced. My expectations were exceeded. The course was in good shape, the staff was very welcoming, and the pace of play was good. As a side note, the food at the course was excellent and the clubhouse quite nice. I will definitely play the course again.
Conistantly good
Just a great course. Early in the season but the greens were still true and consistent despite a recent aeration. Many visible capitol improvements make it a much nicer experience than local competitors.
Still have some work to do
Although the new owner has made quite a few improvements, there is still lots to be done. Tee boxes are in terrible shape. Pace of play is terrible - took almost five hours. They try to blame it on a frost delay but that doesn't cut it; once the players are on the course it should make no difference to pace of play - the marshalls are afraid to offend slow players.
Great Course, Play to the Fairway
Excellent experience for my 1st time at this course. Nearly all holes are lined by OB so play to the fairway. The course plays rather short so most holes only require a 3 or 4 iron to have a nice sub-130 approach. I will definitely be back!
Really Improved
Always been a great track, but now in great shape! You can tell they have put some dough in this, as it's in great shape.
Cant wait for spring!!
worst course in Frederick County
Slow play. I will never go back. Starter was a jerk. Waited too long to start, Slow play all day. Worst service I have ever had at any courses.
Great Course
I have played here few times in the past and they seem to maintain the condition very well every time I played here. Great course!
Great Conditions!!
The course had a few areas that needed work, but overall the course was in fantastic condition. Beware the rough is thick!!!
Enjoy your round!
nice course and great value.
The new owner has done a wonderful job and has spared no expenses to bring this course back. Great value for the money and will certainly recommend it to anyone.
Enjoyable round of golf
Played on a Monday late morning. Pace of play not an issue since it was not busy. No marshal, none needed. Layout of course was somewhat challenging from the Senior tee box. Although the course is within a residential area the homes are some distance and often not noticeable. Fairways and greens were well maintained however tee boxes and the fringe around the greens needed attention. Most traps had good and plentiful sand. Rough was cut but thick. Enjoyed the round and will be back.
Dog Track
This course has the potential to be a nice, challenging course. The fairways are mostly hard pan with more weeds than grass, they obviously don't know about crabgrass preventer. The greens were in decent shape, though they were a little hairy, the tee boxes had very little grass and what was there was crabgrass. The fairways were very tight with OB on both sides, on quite a few holes, so keep the driver in the bag for most of the round. Most of the bunkers were full of nice white sand, but some were almost empty, so check before you swing or you could skull the ball very easily. For the most part, I was pretty dissatisfied with the experience, but the staff was very friendly.
Tee boxes poor
Played this couse several times and enjoyed it. However, the tee boxes on several holes (4 to 5) jare in terrible condition. Overall, the course in the past has been good but it 's condition is going downhill as the summer passes.
Good value
I have not played this course for several years. Took advantage of the Golfnow deal. I was very surprised at the exceptional course condition in the middle of August. Great fairways and greens. What I was most impressed was the condition of the bunkers. Plenty of sand in every bunkers that I was in. Many courses in the area has almost no sand in the bunkers.
I would come again if the price is right. My partners were all impressed.
Great layout, course needs work
The Links at Challedon is a challenging, enjoyable layout with very distinctive holes. The downside is that the course conditions were marginal at best. The greens were very shaggy and had scares from aeration, which I found odd, as aeration is generally done after Labor day in this area. The tee boxes need work, with uneven surfaces and grass needing cut. The fairways were scruffy, but playable. One of my partners said that Challedon was recently purchased by a new owner, and if true, may explain why the course conditions were sub-optimal, as the prior owner may have neglected it. Bottom line, with some investment and improvement in conditions, especially the greens, Challedon can be an excellent course. Let's hope that occurs.
Very solid course
Great course. Everythings in pretty good shape and its a fun course layout. Can't find too many negatives. Some out-of-bounds areas cause some holes to be tight. Played as a twosome and were forced to play with another twosome even though the course wasn't busy. Ultimately let the other twosome go ahead without the starter knowing. Would've been bad as a foursome as there was another twosome behind us.
Always nice
Even though the greens had been aerated, it's hard to complain about this course. I've been playing it since 97' and it just gets better and better. If you can keep your ball in the fairway, you can shoot well. The fairways are always firm and fast so you can roll the ball out for some massive drives. There's been some remodeling in the club house and it looks nice and the driving range has been updated too. If you've never played here I would recommend, as the course is in excellent condition all season long.
Great Time!
Links at Challadon was a lot of fun. Course was in great condition and the greens were in great shape. Only problem was being held up by the greens keepers watering the greens in the middle of our play. Although it has been in the 100s for the past couple of weeks so I understand and won't hold it against them. Will definitely be back to play again and again.
Great staff, very nice layout, a little TLC would go a long way
The staff at the course was excellent, from the guy in the pro shop, to the starter, to the course marshal. The pro shop gave me a yardage book for free since I had never played there before, nice touch, and quite useful as there were a few blind shots. Starter was very pleasant and got us out right on time and offered a few tips. The greens had been punched somewhat recently and had not completely heeled, but still rolled reasonably well. Some of the tee boxes were really hurting, but hey at least I get to put on a tee there, a couple of the ladies' tee boxes seemed to be an after thought, not all, but a few of them. For the most part the fairways were good, nothing special, but very adequate. I will definitely play here again, I would like to see what the greens are like after fully healing and hopefully the tee boxes come back some. It plays thru a very nice housing community, some beautiful places were visible from the course, but the houses are never in play. Played for $47 on golfnow, that is probably all I would be willing to pay until I see improvements on the greens and tee boxes. If you have never played it, give it a shot.
