Links at Challedon

The Links at Challedon is a challenging, enjoyable layout with very distinctive holes. The downside is that the course conditions were marginal at best. The greens were very shaggy and had scares from aeration, which I found odd, as aeration is generally done after Labor day in this area. The tee boxes need work, with uneven surfaces and grass needing cut. The fairways were scruffy, but playable. One of my partners said that Challedon was recently purchased by a new owner, and if true, may explain why the course conditions were sub-optimal, as the prior owner may have neglected it. Bottom line, with some investment and improvement in conditions, especially the greens, Challedon can be an excellent course. Let's hope that occurs.

Great course. Everythings in pretty good shape and its a fun course layout. Can't find too many negatives. Some out-of-bounds areas cause some holes to be tight. Played as a twosome and were forced to play with another twosome even though the course wasn't busy. Ultimately let the other twosome go ahead without the starter knowing. Would've been bad as a foursome as there was another twosome behind us.

Even though the greens had been aerated, it's hard to complain about this course. I've been playing it since 97' and it just gets better and better. If you can keep your ball in the fairway, you can shoot well. The fairways are always firm and fast so you can roll the ball out for some massive drives. There's been some remodeling in the club house and it looks nice and the driving range has been updated too. If you've never played here I would recommend, as the course is in excellent condition all season long.

Links at Challadon was a lot of fun. Course was in great condition and the greens were in great shape. Only problem was being held up by the greens keepers watering the greens in the middle of our play. Although it has been in the 100s for the past couple of weeks so I understand and won't hold it against them. Will definitely be back to play again and again.

The staff at the course was excellent, from the guy in the pro shop, to the starter, to the course marshal. The pro shop gave me a yardage book for free since I had never played there before, nice touch, and quite useful as there were a few blind shots. Starter was very pleasant and got us out right on time and offered a few tips. The greens had been punched somewhat recently and had not completely heeled, but still rolled reasonably well. Some of the tee boxes were really hurting, but hey at least I get to put on a tee there, a couple of the ladies' tee boxes seemed to be an after thought, not all, but a few of them. For the most part the fairways were good, nothing special, but very adequate. I will definitely play here again, I would like to see what the greens are like after fully healing and hopefully the tee boxes come back some. It plays thru a very nice housing community, some beautiful places were visible from the course, but the houses are never in play. Played for $47 on golfnow, that is probably all I would be willing to pay until I see improvements on the greens and tee boxes. If you have never played it, give it a shot.

Some tee boxes were in bad shape. Overall the course was in great shape. Starter John is a great asset.

With this bieng my first time playing, i never expected much. Happy to say that i got more than i expected. The only bad part was the slow play, had a 4 some in front,( i was a single) , that apparently did not want me to play through. Really wasn't much of a problem though, especially since it was ny first time there, because by taking my time i got to enjoy the course more. Over all a very nice place to play. Greens were ok to decent. They were still healing from bieng areated and could of used some attention, but not THAT bad .

Have played the course over the years an even the mens league on Wednesday nights. There has been many changes over the last year that are evident in the course, club house and practice area. I have played twice over the last 2 days and could not say enough good things about my experience. The greens were not fast but very true. The fairways incredible and would play again this week if i could fit it in. Booking was quick and easy. Can't say enough good things about the positive changes that have taken place and to a course that was already very nice.

I had not played at the links in more than a year. Over the winter the clubhouse has been remodeled and is perfect. The restaurant area is now very nice. I did not get anything to eat, but i think there has been a upgrade in the food service for sure. The course is in the best shape in years. I have played the links since it opened in the 1990's . Its nice its back to what it can be, Also they allow both South Carroll and Century high schools to use the course. I think they deserve credit for that. Ben the head pro is also very friendly and will take care of any needs you might have.

It's been a year since I last played, and somethings don't change. I've always enjoyed the layout but course maintenance continues to be a problem. Bunkers aren't raked, no one seems capable of fixing a ball mark.

Course in great shape including the greens. Enjoyed the late afternoon round.

Weekday round reserved through GN. Wide open so unable to rate pace of play - although have played a couple of weekend rounds where it has dragged. One time a marshal pushing my group when no one is behind us; while another time a twosome clogging the middle holes with no marshal in sight.

The course itself is a good mix of straight up holes and challenging ones with their elevation changes. No real head scratchers though. Fairways and greens are always in good to great conditions.

Great value when booked on discount sites. This course holds its own against the good courses in the area.

When I got out of the car (Needing to visit the restroom, quickly), I failed to see the Spot-a Pots, right behind my car. I almost didn't make it back, after going inside and seeing the sign that Restrooms were OUT OF ORDER!

Played this course twice now, and have enjoyed it. The staff is professional and friendly, while the course has some fun holes. They are spending a lot of time redoing the clubhouse and re-sodding the course, so the conditions, appearance, and amenities are improving. Having said that, the greens were not perfect, and could probably use some more TLC. I do like the committment to improvement and believe they will reach their goals. I recommend this course, especially when available as a Hot Deal

Course was packed... 1 hr frost delay... Staff did excellent job of keeping play moving, we finished in 3 hrs 45 mins. Jen and Taylor make and serve a delicious Preakness burger, and they do it with a smile. I will drive an hour and a half to go back, for sure

Great course, well-maintained, intermediate level course, but also good for someone who plays once a week. Views are gorgeous!

This is my 3rd or 4th time golfing this course this season and I always love it. This is only my 2nd season golfing but I feel like this is a perfect course for those who are not experts at golf. I have only played this course when I get a great price and anytime I get a deal I choose this course. Based on the distance from my home I am not sure I would ever pay their normal rates but when they offer deals I am always there.

Well worth the Quick ride from Baltimore. Much faster round including the drive when comparing to any city courses look forward to my next round at Challedon!

I've attended several outings at Challedon, always a great time. The clubhouse service is great, staff is welcoming and starts are always on time. The course was in great condition and our group had a wonderful outing. I highly recommend Challedon to all my friends and business associates.
