Eastmoreland Golf Course
About
Eastmoreland Golf Course was laid out in 1917 by National Amateur Champion, H. Chandlar Egan. Today, Eastmoreland is ranked by Golf Digest among the top public courses in the country. Eastmoreland is as beautiful as it is challenging, bordered in part by Portland’s Rhododendron Gardens and Crystal Springs Lake. The environment provides a home for thousands of birds including great blue herons, mallards, wood ducks and more. The tree-lined fairways are beautiful year round and the natural hazards such as ravines, streams and lakes require the best from any golfer.

geese tarnish grand old course
My major complaint is that the geese have taken over the back 9 on this course. Very sad situation. This is a great old course that is maintained well, but the abundant goose refuse is so distracting..., I don't know if I'll bother to play it again.
Have played this course over the past three years and the problem has not improved. Sorry.
Good friends
The best thing about my day at this course was the company of my friends. When I showed up and presented my golf now coupon the cashier/golf pro made a snide remark about golf now. I didn't need that at 6 in the morning. If it wasn't for the company of good friends I would have left.
twlight rates ar the way to go
thanks so much for the great golf at Eastmoreland I only live a short distance and plan many more rounds
Eastmoreland
Played terrible, but course in good shape. Rain threatening, so not many people out. We were neither delayed nor pressed.
On as a single
Golf Now worked just fine. I got checked in at the golf course and directions to the first tee and driving range. The problem started when I checked in with the starter. The "threesome" I was paired with brought a fourth. I was told I would have to wait until the next available tee time. I don't know how but the starter got me and two others out next.
Just a little frustrating.
Meh, not what it's cracked up to be.
This course has a great reputation. But I just don't get it. The conditions are mediocre. The layout is boring on the front nine. There's only really one challenge on this older course—trees. Lots of them. There are more trees than golf course here. Stay in the fairway. A shot even on the side of the fairway or a just a couple feet into the rough can leave you with. No shot at all more often than not.
The greens are very tough. They are small with big slopes and were fast. But they were also bumpy.
Eastmoreland is totally over rated to me. I'm not a fan. I'd much rather play heron lakes great blue, rose city, Redtail, stone creek, chehelem glenn or the oga course.
Very nice course but slow play
I have not played Eastmorland in quite a few years. It is a very pretty course with solid golf holes. The condition was very good, especially for a muni that gets plenty of play and the staff was very friendly. The only issue was the pace of play. For a 10:22am tee time a 5 hour round is annoying. Lucky it was a beautiful day.
Really nice public course with a dual personality
I think the course at Eastmoreland is great. It is challenging without being too tough for high handicappers to enjoy. The greens were being worked on and that was the only real complaint I had about conditions. The course has a few hills so if you're walking, it's a bit of a workout.
The course is really schizophrenic. There are some really beautiful holes and some not so picturesque one (especially adjacent to railroad tracks). Some holes like 7 & 9 are pretty tough. Some like 15 pretty easy. There is some water but not too much, not a ton of sand.
The chipping and putting are is great. Lots of room to practice all kinds of shots. Driving range is pretty much like most every driving range you see.
I have never found the staff to be terribly friendly or helpful. Not bad, just not good. The food is pretty average but the beers and bar is great. Nice outdoor seating are overlooking the 10th tee.
You can do a lot worse but if I had to choose a public course in Portland, Heron Lakes wins hands down.
An excellent course
I haven't played here for several years. But I was pleasantly surprised about how good the course conditions were. Eastmoreland is a great layout and a must-play when you visit Portland.
Eastmoreland
I really like this course, it has something for everyone.
Fair Challenge for your all your golf skills.
I've been playing this course for 30 years, just a classic urban design by NW legend Chandler Egan. Easy to walk. You have to position your shots around this tree lined track.
Greens were top dressed so speed of putts was hard to judge. Course is still soft, so play the appropriate tees for your ability. Just a nice time on a good weather day.
Nice older course
Course is lined with old trees, water in play on a few holes. Greens are hard to read, even for regulars. So lag putting is a must. Great deals on Pro Shop clothes. Food and beverages were a good deal.
Greens were in GREAT shape!!
I was pleasantly surprised about the condition of the golf course. The greens were amazingly fast, and played great!! Very true greens for so early in the golf season.
We will be back for sure.....
Good value for money
Everything worked like it should have - from reservations to starting on time. The special discount made it a good experience even if conditions were a little wet from previous prolonged rainfall. Lots of road noise on quite a number of holes but not much one can do about that.
yes unfortunately at times this past year with the insertion of light rail going in the following year there has been some noise at times. Most of the light rail equipment has moved away from the course now and that problem has rectified itself. Thank you for your business.
Always a great course, but overloaded on tee times.
Eastmoreland is always a great course to play: challenging, friendly staff, great conditions and nice facilities.
The only complaint about this round was that (I think) because it was a nice day, the course seemed to be overloaded with people waiting to start on the first hole. We booked our tee time for four people at 12:52pm and were able to tee off about 1:15pm. At each tee box, we would arrive to see the group in front of us waiting to tee off. Average wait time at each tee was about 7-10 minutes. Once we hit the back nine, and there were less groups making the turn, we were able to play at a reasonable pace.
Looking back on that day bjunio we had a total of 217 players which is quite an amazing day in late March and on a Monday. Quite often on weekdays and the off season we do have quite a bit of 9 hole play which would explain why your back 9 was much quicker. We try to make sure and not allow groups to start on the back 9 when pace on the front is not acceptable for the golfers playing 18. Thank you for your comment and we hope to see you again at Eastmoreland.
Nice Shape for Spring Golf
The greens were very smooth and speedy! This is a very difficult course.
Always in good shape
Playing Eastmorland in the fall time can be challenging because of the amount of leaves that fall onto course always trying to find ball in pales of them.
Nice Greens
Overall my experience at East Moreland was a great value for the money. The course laid out nice and plays challenging shots. I like it when you have to make 2 or 3 golf shots on a hole and East Moreland offers that.
The greens where maintained excellent. My only dislike, like so many courses in PDX was goose poo.- Not a deal breaker for sure, but an annoyance. Give the course a 7 out of 10
Yes Geese have been a problem at our course for a long time. Fortunately , I do have good news to report. 2 or our greens crew employees have dogs that are now chasing the geese away. Right now there are very few geese on our golf course. Hope to see back another time.
Extremely busy, slower pace, excellent condition
Beautiful old-school course. Easy walk, but slow pace due to always very busy...guess that tells you something about what a nice course with reasonable rates it is!
Avoided the rain
We were worried about the weather system that came through that morning, but by the time we got out there it was fine. There was some computer malfunction at the pro shop, but they let us go off without a problem.
Thank you for playing our course . Your business is appreciated. Yes our greens are in great shape. Sorry your round took a little longer than expected. This is a tricky time of year for our course in terms of having the proper amount of staff on hand for marshalling the course. This was a day we got flooded with walk ons. Look forward to seeing you agin
