Eastmoreland Golf Course was laid out in 1917 by National Amateur Champion, H. Chandlar Egan. Today, Eastmoreland is ranked by Golf Digest among the top public courses in the country. Eastmoreland is as beautiful as it is challenging, bordered in part by Portland’s Rhododendron Gardens and Crystal Springs Lake. The environment provides a home for thousands of birds including great blue herons, mallards, wood ducks and more. The tree-lined fairways are beautiful year round and the natural hazards such as ravines, streams and lakes require the best from any golfer.

Forgiving yet challenging - great public course

One of the best I have played at around Portland. Front nine took some time to get through, but the back nine is worth waiting for as you get to dodge tricky steams and ponds and hence accuracy is critical on the back nine.

Course is not well maintained. Fairways grass is sparse and bunkers have very heavy sand.

There are so many courses that are well maintained that I doubt if I play there again.

Sorry about your experience at our course. At this time we were putting in new drainage to our bunkers and many of them were under repair. We did have some thin fairways. This was due to our goose population and high volume of golfers that took its toll on our course. Now we have 2 dogs taking care of the geese and bunkers back to normal.

Classic design for a wonderful rate

Eastmoreland Golf Course is a gem in a city saturated with great golf courses. A Chandler Eagan design (riverside cc, oswego lake cc, pebble beach re design) plays much more like a traditional country club than a public course. The holes are heavily tree lined with undulated greens where poor shots are punished. 9 hole novices will probably enjoy the front nine more while more experienced players will prefer the back 9. Being a public course it does have some setbacks. 2 types of sand are being used in the bunkers while the maintenance crew upgrades the drainage system and there is a bit of a goose problem due to being so close to several parks and water sources. For the amount of play this track gets, it is in the best shape of all the public courses in the pdx metro area. Most complaints about this course come from people who don't appreciate difficult set ups. The rates are amongst the lowest in the city all year long and they offer a multi play rewards card that can result in free rounds if you play enough. A feature the other city courses do not have. The property features a 2 tiered driving range, putting, chipping green and a restaurant. The pro shop has a wide clothing selection and the staff is always very accommodating. Highly recommend this course to anyone who enjoys tough classic layouts.

Good Course

This course was the best I've seen it in a long time. Everything was awesome from the fairways to the greens. I remember playing this course back in 2005 and then in 2008 and the conditions were not that great. But now, I'd play there again in a heartbeat. The greens were pretty fast despite the moisture on them early in the morning. Absolutely a must play.

Needs major work

I've played here a lot over the years, with yesterday being the first time of the season. I'm horribly disappointed with the level of care that this course is receiving. The greens were terribly inconsistent and very bumpy. This course used to have beautiful greens in the summer. The sand traps were the worst I've played all season. There were three different types of sand, depending on the hole, and most of them looked like they hadn't been raked by the grounds crew in weeks. Some were muddy, some were overly soft. In addition, there was a horrible pest problem throughout the course. There was a dead opossum in the middle of the 2nd fairway, a dead goose floating in the 12th green-side pond, nutria on multiple holes, and geese (and their droppings) nearly everywhere around the golf course. My friend and I were truly grossed out. The bathroom on the 4th tee box hadn't been cleaned in some time, as there was a major blowout in the women's bathroom -- my friend came running out just as soon as she entered.

On the backside, there was extensive construction going on on holes 14-16. Orange plastic fences were everywhere and often placed in areas where they really got in the way of normal play. It looked like the course managers didn't feel like it was necessary to be concerned with the overall aesthetics of the golf course. Lastly, we played twilight at a rate of $24 per person, which if the course was taken care of the way I had remembered, this would have been an acceptable rate. However, we were charged $20 for a golf cart at twilight -- 5/6 of the price of our round. Absolutely absurd. I realize this is a Portland public golf course, but give me a break. Both Heron Lakes and Red Tail, which are also Portland public courses, don't even charge half this price at twilight. I played twilight on Sunday at Langdon Farms -- a way nicer golf course -- for 27 dollars and 5 bucks for a golf cart.

In short, I will not be playing this course ever again. My experience could not be any worse, and I'm embarrassed for the people that have taken this course downhill so fast. What a disappointment.

sorry you didn't have a good experience. I want to clarify something about your concern for what you were charged. On our twilight rate it is 24 a person to walk and its 10 dollars a person to ride. Obviously , you had 2 riders in your group which is why 20 dollars was charged for a cart. So it wasn't 5/6 of the green fee was it? Also dependant upon time you play the rate is cheaper for a cart as well. At our facility during our super twilight rate a person is charged 6 dollars a person to ride. Our bunkers were under renovation at that time and yes there was construction putting in a new bridge for golfers to use. Our goose population has now been drastically reduced due to the 2 dogs that now chase them.

My guess is that you shot a very high number on this track and are a little upset about it. You are correct about the bunkers and the geese are a problem but there isnt much they can do about that. As for your claims that redtail and heron are cheaper, they are all city courses with those 2 being more expensive than eastmoreland and rose city. The city determines the prices not the courses. Also if you do play around as much as you claim, you would know that for this time of year, eastmoreland is playing miles better than any of the city tracks. Langdon is privately owned and it is unfair to compare the 2.

Major goose problem

This was the first and last time I will play this course. The golf course itself was fairly well maintained, but there must have been at least 20 to 30 geese in the middle of every fairway. There was so much accumulated poo that it made the entire round disgusting. I'm not sure what can be done about it, but I won't return until they figure out how to manage this problem.

we now have 2 dogs that are chasing the geese to rectify the problem. Thank you for your business and hopefully you will return and see the improvement.

Eastmoreland in 4hrs our less... really!

Play was shockingly fast for a mid-week afternoon round at Eastmoreland. The last time I played here it was 5.5 hrs long following group after group of hacks who didn't understand "ready golf." We all know what to expect, short holes, with relatively flat greens on the front, with some unusual carries required on the back. The course was in maintained shape, but the fairways were a little thin and the greens a little "furry." Finishing on 18 in 3:45 was the highlight of the round. The 19th hole had a few local brews on tap and the SW Chicken Sandwich was delightful.

greens were in great shape

Greens were in excellent shape. The rest of the course was in acceptable condition. Lots of goose caca all over the place. The front nine was very slow but faster on the back nine. Nice bar for an after round drink.

Like a stroll in the park!

Eastmoreland was my home course in the 80's, but only play it once or twice a year now that I live further away. For the amount of play it gets it's still in great shape and a joy to play. Miss seeing Gloria in the clubhouse.

Great course at great price.

This is the meaning of target golf. If you are not on your a game then leave the driver at home. Nicely manicured and greens in great shape if a little slow. Unique hole that offer any type of challenge you might want.

The old growth Cedar trees lining the fairways are stunning.

The fairways on this course are pretty narrow so better make good tee shots or you are in the bogeys for the hole. Greens were in excellent condition and the cups were challenging. I will be back to play this course.

My favorite back 9 anywhere.

The front 9 of this course is pretty boring but fun. The back 9 is exciting. Hole 13 is one of the coolest holes around, and 17 is the first of its kind. Pretty beat up greens though. This course gets alot of play.

Course has great design and aesthetics, especially on back nine.

Last time we played here was about 5 years ago and the care and maintenance of the greens has suffered. Lots of disease and bare spots very noticeable. It's a shame because the course is beautiful.

In Good Shape but Slow Play

We got stuck behind two slow 4-somes that did not allow a two some behind them to play through.
Several Bunkers were under repair and created awkward OB areas right at the edge of the greens on 5 and 9, that were easy to hit in to.
The bulk of the course was in very good shape and the staff was great.

Great course but the staff could use some polish

When it comes to actually playing here, the course is great. It's not too difficult, lots of nice scenery and the greens are fairly well maintainted. My issues are with the sevice in the clubhouse. Every time I go there the head pro has a dismissive and condecending attitude which takes away from the overall experience. The most recent time i went he wouldent let us make the turn because they had leagues going off and the scheduling was messed up. He refused to give us a rain check since I booked thru golf now. He also told me to take it up with golf now when i asked him why they didnt tell us they plugged the greens recently. Thankfully I did send an email to golf now and they very quickly issued me a refund(thanks guys!) as they obviously understand the concept of customer service and repeat business. Again, this course is alot of fun and worth it if you go on a special but the service is a 0-star situation.

Super !

Wife and I played here for the first time. The front nine will challenge you ( or it did us anyway) with it's length and the back nine is loaded with water and challenging doglegs. The scenery and the trees are beautiful, oh the trees ! If you love birds you will love it. The course is like an idyllic park setting. We had a wonderful time. The greens had been aerated recently and were still a bit bumpy and sandy but the people we played with were regulars and said the the new superintendent has restored the greens to greatness and we plan to return in a month or so. The greens are large and undulating, the fiarways well mowed and cared for, the rough is lush and bunkers raked and neat, albeit a few are under reconstruction but no worries. The proshop is well stocked and the staff impressively friendly.

We are glad we made the trip to play this course and will return and urge any and all to play this public gem.

Great public course close to downtown.

The course was in great shape for this early in the season. I love playing this course but it's challenging due to the technical shots required of narrow fairways, large trees, and hazards. The staff, as always, was very friendly. The club house is a nice place for a drink after the round.
