Eastmoreland Golf Course was laid out in 1917 by National Amateur Champion, H. Chandlar Egan. Today, Eastmoreland is ranked by Golf Digest among the top public courses in the country. Eastmoreland is as beautiful as it is challenging, bordered in part by Portland’s Rhododendron Gardens and Crystal Springs Lake. The environment provides a home for thousands of birds including great blue herons, mallards, wood ducks and more. The tree-lined fairways are beautiful year round and the natural hazards such as ravines, streams and lakes require the best from any golfer.

Like a stroll in the park!

Eastmoreland was my home course in the 80's, but only play it once or twice a year now that I live further away. For the amount of play it gets it's still in great shape and a joy to play. Miss seeing Gloria in the clubhouse.

Great course at great price.

This is the meaning of target golf. If you are not on your a game then leave the driver at home. Nicely manicured and greens in great shape if a little slow. Unique hole that offer any type of challenge you might want.

First Time Playing

The old growth Cedar trees lining the fairways are stunning.

The fairways on this course are pretty narrow so better make good tee shots or you are in the bogeys for the hole. Greens were in excellent condition and the cups were challenging. I will be back to play this course.

My favorite back 9 anywhere.

The front 9 of this course is pretty boring but fun. The back 9 is exciting. Hole 13 is one of the coolest holes around, and 17 is the first of its kind. Pretty beat up greens though. This course gets alot of play.

Course has great design and aesthetics, especially on back nine.

Last time we played here was about 5 years ago and the care and maintenance of the greens has suffered. Lots of disease and bare spots very noticeable. It's a shame because the course is beautiful.

In Good Shape but Slow Play

We got stuck behind two slow 4-somes that did not allow a two some behind them to play through.
Several Bunkers were under repair and created awkward OB areas right at the edge of the greens on 5 and 9, that were easy to hit in to.
The bulk of the course was in very good shape and the staff was great.

Great course but the staff could use some polish

When it comes to actually playing here, the course is great. It's not too difficult, lots of nice scenery and the greens are fairly well maintainted. My issues are with the sevice in the clubhouse. Every time I go there the head pro has a dismissive and condecending attitude which takes away from the overall experience. The most recent time i went he wouldent let us make the turn because they had leagues going off and the scheduling was messed up. He refused to give us a rain check since I booked thru golf now. He also told me to take it up with golf now when i asked him why they didnt tell us they plugged the greens recently. Thankfully I did send an email to golf now and they very quickly issued me a refund(thanks guys!) as they obviously understand the concept of customer service and repeat business. Again, this course is alot of fun and worth it if you go on a special but the service is a 0-star situation.

Super !

Wife and I played here for the first time. The front nine will challenge you ( or it did us anyway) with it's length and the back nine is loaded with water and challenging doglegs. The scenery and the trees are beautiful, oh the trees ! If you love birds you will love it. The course is like an idyllic park setting. We had a wonderful time. The greens had been aerated recently and were still a bit bumpy and sandy but the people we played with were regulars and said the the new superintendent has restored the greens to greatness and we plan to return in a month or so. The greens are large and undulating, the fiarways well mowed and cared for, the rough is lush and bunkers raked and neat, albeit a few are under reconstruction but no worries. The proshop is well stocked and the staff impressively friendly.

We are glad we made the trip to play this course and will return and urge any and all to play this public gem.

Great public course close to downtown.

The course was in great shape for this early in the season. I love playing this course but it's challenging due to the technical shots required of narrow fairways, large trees, and hazards. The staff, as always, was very friendly. The club house is a nice place for a drink after the round.

Greens are fairly good for public course that gets heavy use. Better put the tee ball in the fairway, tight tree line track.

At a course like this, you expect it to be a little slow. They stack tee times and it attracts a lot of new golfers so it can be slow, which is fine at certain times. My complaint for my round last night was it took 5 hours to play 18, because the group in front of us was taking it far to seriously and was one of the slowest groups I've ever been behind. To make it better they didn't let us play through obviously, they had no one in front of them, and the marshal was never seen. I wish they would manage the course better if they're going to have tee times every 7 minutes.

Portland Jewel

Portland is fortunate to have this interesting course. Because of it popularity it gets a lot of play. Many of the holes are tight and the trees come into play. Thirteen is it's signature hole a short par five requiring good strategy. You won't forget this hole. It's an old style course with the hole in front of you, not a target golf course. It has a large practice green to use for putting and chipping practice and an area to hit short irons for practice. 17 is a fun par three all over water to a narrow green. It can make or break your round. The greens putt okay but are bumpy at times because it gets so much play. I have played the course more than 50 times.

SOGGY!

But ALL Willamette Valley courses are soggy in the rainy season, i.e. from November through April or May. Eastmoreland, Cross Creek (a bit better because grass is better maintained; greens are well-sanded and pretty dry); Langdon Farms (works on drainage); Pumpkin Ridge (just a better course): all are wet and swampy in the winter.
Play the coast! Gearhart, Sandpines, Ocean Dunes, Bandon: all are built on sand and drain almost immediately for great winter conditions.

A nice public course

Needs work as any city course does. Could be so much more with a little effort, but the city wrings out all the dollars it can by skimping on maintenance.
