Eastmoreland Golf Course

About
Eastmoreland Golf Course was laid out in 1917 by National Amateur Champion, H. Chandlar Egan. Today, Eastmoreland is ranked by Golf Digest among the top public courses in the country. Eastmoreland is as beautiful as it is challenging, bordered in part by Portland’s Rhododendron Gardens and Crystal Springs Lake. The environment provides a home for thousands of birds including great blue herons, mallards, wood ducks and more. The tree-lined fairways are beautiful year round and the natural hazards such as ravines, streams and lakes require the best from any golfer.

Great Course. Needs Water for players.
Love this course, played it frequently when I played in HS. I always like to come back and get a round in with some nostalgia. It's really fun, challenging and beautiful to look at. My only gripe is that they have no water filling stations, even during the summer. Help us walking players out please. Would be 5-star if not for lack of hydration availability.
Don't play in the late afternoon
It took 3 hours to play 9 holes after 5pm. This place doesn't have Marshalls tracking pace of play and the greens fees are expensive. Lots of bare spots on the fairways so moving your ball is allowed
This course kills me
I love / hate this course. Every hole has it's challenges. The greens are hard as rocks and rarely flat. It can really get in your head if you start missing shots. Don't worry I'll be back for more punishment soon enough.
Decent layout but slightly overpriced
The course itself is in decent shape and greens look healthy. Plenty of practice facilities. It's located in the heart or Portland, and offers less than tranquil surroundings. #14 starts a stretch of holes alongside abandoned cars, homeless chatter, and graffiti laden trains.
There needs to be a sign coming off of #13 to indicate where #14 is. The opening on the fence shoots you out to the street where you would assume walk. After ending up in the parking lot of a different business, I turned around thinking I took the wrong route, only to double back and walk two blocks around the corner to find #14. Very frustrating
Nice layout
Couse has a nice layout with easier front than back nine.
Pace of play was bad, due of a very slow three some in the front. Marshal did not much to speed them up.
Beside that very nice course.
Nice Course
Challenging but forgiving. Every hole is very playable.
Easy front nine demanding back nine
Nice course with a nice layout. First nine nice to play , mostly flat. Back nine are more demanding as more water comes in to play and more up and down play. Worth the money.
Classic, Municipal Golf at its Best
Always a phenomenal early round at Eastmoreland. Lovely layout, often over and around water, with an extraordinary variety of trees and plants around the botanic gardens. Challenging tee-to-green, with angles and doglegs and carries to contend with, and excellent, country-club-grade putting surfaces and plenty of sand in the bunkers. Better maintained than all the Oki courses up here in WA, at a third of the price. If you demand immaculate fairways, join Waverly or Tualatin, but this is GREAT blue-collar golf.
Nice Muni, but slow
Eastmoreland is an interesting course and fun to play.. it was also in good shape. It would be MUCH better if there were an effort made to keep groups moving. Slow play plus start times that are only 8 minutes apart make for a long day..
A Portland Favorite
Talk about a love/hate relationship! i really love this course, every hole is interesting and a challenge. The 122 slope is misleading, I'm a poor golfer, +20, but I can usually break 100, not here. The greens are hard as rocks with more slope to them than it looks. Several par 4s are 400+ yards and there's plenty of water on the back 9. I'm just thrilled I played 18 there yesterday and, probably for the first time, didn't lose a ball. My buddy lost 3 which is more the norm. Many think it has the best 19th hole in town.
Finally
What a gem of a course! The greens were in great shape, the fairways were well cut without clumps of long neglected grass all over, but we had one issue. The marshals said the flags on the green were in order like the tee boxes. Red flag up close, white in the middle and blue in the back. We found only red flags on all the greens. It didn’t distract from a great day to be a golfer. Just saying.
This is a fun course to play
I like the challenge of hole variety at this course, especially the back nine.
Warm weather golf
What a nice change of pace to play on a dry course with great fairways and greens but very little runout on any shot. Always a fun challenge, one of my favorites!
