Wild Laurel Golf Course

There was no management of the pace of play. A number of factors contributed to this. One group ahead of me had 6 people teeing off. There was no starter so the smaller twosome ahead of me was scheduled earlier but were late showing up and the the guys let their girlfriends hit for fun. All that said, I still will return because it is a beautiful setting, the course is in fair shape and the fairways, while tight are mostly flat and easy.

Had an 8:30 tee time so had a little fog for a couple of holes. Very few players so pace of play as a twosome was great. Fairways were a little shaggy and the greens were painfully slow. Overall the course was ok. The staff was very friendly and the clubhouse was mountain cabin nice with a pool table and well stocked bar. The food was good. The weather was amazing so it was a good relaxing day. I would do it again.

I'm really not sure how this course has so many recent 5 star reviews. It may be that there are not many to choose from in this area but it seems like we played a different course than they did. I'm not sure they even own lawn mowers here. The greens had not been cut in at least several days and were very shaggy. They had been recently punched and sanded and that 's fine but I've never seen a course not cut their greens for days.

There was no difference between the fairways and the rough and they also had not been cut for days. We lost several balls in the middle of the fairway simply because the grass was too long. We teed off around 9 and never saw a mower anywhere on the course once during our round.

The pro shop staff was kind and helpful and they have a beautiful hilltop clubhouse and restaurant and that's obviously where all the money went because they didn't spend it on mowers. It's unfortunate because it is a pretty layout with tremendous potential.

Also, we played Gatlinburg Golf Course two days later and their greens had been punched just days earlier but had been cut and were rolling great despite the holes and the sand. Great fairway conditions too so a much better value over there.

My family stayed at a cabin in Townsend, TN and this course was less than a mile from our perch up in the mountains.

I played four times in the back half of July and loved it. Mostly playing early mornings solo or paired with a local regular.

The value is great, the scenery incredible being at the base of 30degree cliff faces and heavily-wooded slopes all above you in a literal valley.

Geographically, it makes no sense that a golf course could exist in the Smoky Mountains but there it was, and you had spectacular views throughout your entire round.

Holes 2, 9, 10 in particular took great advantage of the hills to give you a perched tee-box with massive cliffs below them. Example at 10 - A 230yd par 3 playing like 190 is just so fun.

Did I play great my first 2 rounds? Not at all, I had to learn how to play hilly courses again - but loved the change of scenery from the links-style courses I was used to. I had to re-learn how to hit off down and upward slopes and judge vertical drop again! Playing early morning you got to play through thick mountain fog, even more of a treat when it burned off 5 holes in.

All in all, a wonderful course. Great staff, and oh by the way there is a pool at the clubhouse with live music on weekends.

Greens were somewhat rough. There was sand on the greens. Some fairways needed mowing.

Couldnt ask for anything better. Course was great and staff is amazing!

Would have rated it higher, except the greens had just been plugged and sanded.

Intimidating at first yet I shot my best game ever!! A little humid hardly any wind. We’ll maintained course pace of play was awesome

This is the first time we have played this course and I don't think I have ever played a course with such small and narrow greens. You better be dead on your yardage to hit the greens. We had to chip on almost every hole which should have been putting. There is not really a fringe on any green. It goes from fairway to green without any transition. The fairways are very thick too. We lost 2-3 balls each we know had to be in the fairway, but we never could find them because the Bermuda was so tall. We found other people's balls, so it must have happened to a lot of them too. Still, it was a fun day with my son-in-law.

Every thing was excellent except the conditions. First six fairways needed to be cut really badly. This was being done while I was playing. Actually lost 3 balls that I hit that were IN the fairway. So I down graded the conditions based on that. But the rest of the round went OK. Greens were in very good shape. So I was pleased overall. Will definitely play again.

Wild Laurel is an outstanding course with an awesome view! The course is in great shape! The staff at Wild Laurel are very pleasant, accomodating and friendly! You have to play the course to truly understand how wonderful an experience it is........
