Coarse
Enjoyed the coarse, very challenging, in good shape
👍🏼
Great course, good people. Only my second time golfing so I couldn’t give a comparison to other courses. But everything seemed nice to me. Loved the views!
Beautiful mountain course!
This was an amazing course. It's a beautiful mountain course with lots of wildlife. The course staff with superfriendly!
Wish it was better
We booked our tee team on the site and once we got to the golf course they tried to tell us that we didn't have a tee time even when showing them the confirmation code they was still a little hesitant but did end up letting us play but all the employees was very rude and acted like they didn't want to help us at all the customer service there really needs some work and the course it's self wasn't in good shape and we are on vacation and it will be the first and last time of us visiting this course.
Good course for the money
It’s only a par 70 but a fun course to play. Stay in the fairways or you will lose some balls in the high rough.
Never, ever again
Gather 'round the fire folks, I have a story for you. Lets start with the "Good". The course was nearly empty and our group was pretty much allowed to go off 25 mins early because we were ready. We didn't have anyone behind us most of the morning, so the pace of play was pretty ideal. There was one guy at the pro shop checking us in and he was super nice, but it looked like the pro shop had an "everything must go" sale. There were literally 3 men's polos for sale. No towels, hats, ball markers, coozies, tee shirts... whatever you buy to commemorate your rounds at a new course, they didn't have it. Super weird.
Ok, lets get to the meat and potatoes, the actual course. I read the reviews posted about the course going about 2-3 months back from my planned visit and I was like.. ok, it's going to be very "buggy", the fairways are rough and the rough is rougher. Brother, no... We had bugs in our eyes, in our teeth, and in our ears. On one green we probably looked like we were having a dance party but we were just swatting at bugs. One of the par 3s on the back has a HUGE ground wasp nest, if you miss the green JUST LEAVE THE BALL, it's not worth it- there must have been 2000 ground wasps. I'm not dying today. The fairway 1st cut is SO long, you can physically watch your ball land in the fairway and lose it. If you get lucky enough to step on your ball in the fairway where you think it landed- you might find it, best of luck to you. I lost half a dozen balls THAT I WATCHED LAND in the fairway!!! If you land one in the rough/ long grass??? Just take a drop, you'll never find it, I promise. The greens were rolling like mashed potatoes on a water bed. Spongy and bumpy- and more than once we had to dig out our balls from the greens, and then fight the GIANT CRATER ball marks that our balls made. Except, not everyone repairs their ball marks, so it just looks like a cratered disaster even if you fix yours, you'll be putting through weeks worth of poorly repaired ball marks and weeds/ dead spots. The layout is a very mean PAR 5-3-5-3 to start, so I hope you like Par 5's cause you'll have 2 of them in the first 3 holes, made more fun by the fact that there isn't a driving range, so you'll be going in cold. They do have a hitting net near the entrance, it holds 2 people. There is also a small putting green, it holds 3 people, maybe. I saw a few reviews where people stated that they were so frustrated that they wanted to leave after 9 holes, and I assumed those folks were bad golfers. Then, I wanted to leave after 9 holes- decided to stick it out, and wound up having a fight with some friends of mine in my foursome, because we were agitated. So, this course may have actually cost me a friendship. I will never return. Ever. Ever.
All about location and wildlife
Good course, not great. Needs practice range or repair to practice area netting. Grass a a tad high and greens need some TLC. Laid back atmosphere as one would expect in the Smokies.
Ranger neeed
Course was not in great shape. I lost balls in fairway due to mowed grass being so deep!! Golfers skipping holes & driving all out of order! Very slow pace due to mayhem!
A shame what has happened here
My family has been visiting Townsend for over 10 years and I started playing Wild Laurel every trip with my daughter. I love the clubhouse, course layout, and the views are spectacular. Unfortunately the course maintenance is so poor that it is almost unplayable. The front 9 was bad, the back 9 is horrible. Losing balls that were hit in the middle of where a fairway should be because the grass is so overgrown. Putting is a complete crapshoot due to the conditions of the greens. Tee boxes that are being taken over by weeds. It is very disappointing what is happening to this beautiful layout, something needs to change or we will not be back.
Terrible
You couldn’t find your ball in the middle of the fairway the grass hadn’t been cut in over a week. The greens are in terrible condition. I wouldn’t play this course again if you paid me. Terrible experience this place should be ashamed of the conditions. Everyone there was upset w. Called it after 9 holes.
Poor conditions
Half of the tee boxes were all weeds or all sand. Many fairways were completely over grow leading to lost balls that should be on the “fairway”. There were about 7/8 great holes in decent condition spaced out across 18.
Terrible course conditions
The course is really getting out of control, there are absolutely no fairways nothing but rough all thought out the course. The greens are in terrible shape. The tee boxes are awful nothing but sand and tall grass. It kinda seems like they fired their grounds keeping team. I was ready to quit after the 5th hole and go play somewhere else. I will not be back.
Nice,Hidden value
The staff were all very nice and helpful. The clubhouse/pro shop was very nice with a full bar and eat in style dinning area. It has a large pool area that several families were enjoying that afternoon. The course conditions were needing some work. The majority of the tee boxes were not mowed and several needed some seed laid. It is a tight course, you’re in the mountains it’s gonna happen, with several blind tee shots and the occasional blind approach. There is no driving range but they do have several hitting nets to warm up with and a small but functional putting green. Fun course but you better know where to hit.
Wild Laurel review
None of the tee boxes were mowed. None of the fairways were mowed and mostly consisted of weeds and dirt patches. Haven’t played the course in 4 years and course was in same poor conditions as last time. Disappointing conditions were like this on a Saturday in the summer. Paid more money than what was booked on GolfNow. Pace of play was atrocious, 3 groups waiting to tee off on hole 6. Might be the last time I visit Wild Laurel unless dramatic renovations are done.
Good work
The course is in good condition considering the recent temperatures and lack of rainfall. The greens are so much better than they were a year ago.
Decent mtn course
No driving range. Tight fairways but a short course. Greens were in good shape but slow. They were also fairly small. Fairways were like playing in your own backyard but cut short like a fairway. Tee boxes seemed to be neglected. Clubhouse and staff were nice.

Agree 100%. I literally lost a friend due to a blow up on Hole 10, because I was so incredibly frustrated after the front nine. We should have called it quits at 9.
