Rough Shape
The scenery and layout are great but the course is in rough shape. Greens are full of weeds, putting is extremely difficult due to the ball bouncing so much. Tee boxes are also in bad shape, we were better off teeing off from outside of the tee boxes.
Beautiful course and views
This course is really a pleasure to play, mostly from the views and beauty of the surrounding mountains. The greens were under repair and that was an issue as a couple were practically un-playable. The grass on the fairways can be high and some of the rough was too deep. We ate and had a drink afterward. It was enjoyable again with the beautiful views. Hopefully the next time we play, ground conditions are better.
Terrible Conditions
This has to be the worst conditions I've ever played on and that's saying something. It is clear as day that the current ownership could care a less about keeping up the course. Honestly embarrassing to even have the course open with how bad of shape it is in. The greens are completely taken over by Crabgrass and the fairways haven't been mowed in a month. Lots of potential but please don't waste your money playing here.
Rough fairways. Very disappointed.
We saved up to come play this course and are so disappointed. The fairways are in very rough shape. It’s like playing in your yard when the grass hasn’t been mowed in a while. BRING LOTS OF BUG SPRAY! Beautiful views and guys at the pro shop were nice. I hate that we wasted our money.
Course is coming back
I quit playing this course a couple years ago, due to the condition of the greens, and fairways. We went to play a round and give it a try for Father's Day, and I was very surprised at the turnaround the staff has made. Greens were actually complete, and looked good. There has been progress made in the fairways as well. There are a few spots that are new, but overall, the course is much better than I expected, and it is a fun one to play. Glad to see it coming back to what it once was. Maybe some of the tee boxes will be next.
Fun golf course
Fun friendly staff, great clubhouse. Fun mountain course with great views will be back to play again.
Golf in the smokies
A fun course that navigates the mountains, with tons of scenic views and wildlife. A great place to have fun and enjoy the outdoors.
Very disappointing course conditions
I have played Wild Laurel numerous times and own property adjacent to the course. Positives, the green are in excellent shape. That’s where to positives end. The fairways are in horrible condition. Most fairways are very sparse with little turf grass to play from. Where there is grass it is mostly weeds or other grass not conducive to play. Many of the tee boxes have little to no grass in the teeing areas and are mostly sand covered. Seeing the course in the awful conditions is depressing. In the past it looked like a great deal of effort was being put into making the fairways more suitable for golf and we were all optimistic that the new owners were effecting serious improvement. But the course has degraded back to a very poor state. It is a shame as the layout and location could be a wonderful place to play. Right now the course is so bad that it is not something one would want to spend money to play. Lambert Acres is in spectacular shape and I would recommend playing golf there and passing on Wild Laurel
Slow Greens, but Amazing Scenery
This was a great place to play on vacation. The fairways are a little lacking in the upkeep department, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this course. Amazing scenery, stunning clubhouse, and very welcoming staff.
What happened?
Course is gone . Fairways nothing but poa & clover . Rough is completely taking over . Greens were punched but understand that’ this time of year but even the creek & stream through the course were grown up . Tees had no grass some had sand on them. Sad to see this course go down like this . Used to ge a gem
Avoid at all costs
I’m not one to normally write a review, but felt the condition of this course is worth writing one. First, in full disclosure, I only played 9 holes while my wife shopped in Townsend. I wish I had read the reviews BEFORE I played because, as much as I hate shopping, I would have skipped playing this course. I’m no “golf snob” and enjoy playing all types of courses but this was an absolute waste of $43. I would have been even more ticked had I paid $86 for 18 as I’m playing championship level courses in Loudon and paying less!!!
The course has tremendous potential, but in reading older reviews, the conditions/maintenance aren’t a new problem. Weeds in all fairway's, bare tee box’s littered with broken tees and greens that appeared to have gone without being mown for at least 2-3 days.
Do yourself a favor, and avoid this course. I realize that’s a pretty harsh statement, and I don’t take writing this lightly.
Favorite course, conditions worsening
This was hands down one of our favorite courses over many years. There was a recent storm, and they cleaned up beautifully. But…..over the last couple years, the green and fairway maintenance has gone down. We hope they figure out how to prep the course for the growth season ahead!!
Mountain golf
Thoroughly enjoyed my round. The greens were in excellent condition. Tee boxes and fairways were what you expect just getting out of winter but not poor by any means.
I had a great round.
I had a great round of golf even though we are still playing in winter conditions. I like the layout of the course.
They have done a great job on the interior of the clubhouse. The staff is friendly and helpful. The golf carts are well taken care of. The Greens and fairways were in great shape but could be better if people would fill their divots and repair their ball marks on the greens. I look forward to golfing here again.
