Rouge Park Golf Course
About
Rouge Park Golf Course is the city of Detroit's hidden gem. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1923. Despite the expansion of Detroit's golf offerings in later years, Rouge Park G.C. is still considered one of the best and most challenging of them all. The tranquil setting boasts an abundance of wildlife including deer, pheasants, and herons, making you completely forget that you're in the city. The golf course was carved from rolling hills, providing tricky contours and dramatically elevated tees. The Rouge River winds through the layout, coming into play on six holes. The difficulty of the course is balanced by the wide, player-friendly fairways. The par-4 11th is considered one of the Detroit metro area's toughest holes. It requires a 280-yard drive in order to clear not just one but two water hazards.

Course in good shape!
A few upgrades could be made on the cart paths, bunkers & tee boxes but otherwise it's in great shape.
Strange Holes
Although this course is very playable there are a few holes that have you wondering where to hit your tee shot. Completely blind shots require your need to play here more than once to figure out the layout. Number 9 is uphill that flattens out on top so no idea were landing area is. Also low ball hitters will never clear the hazard in front of them on this hole. 8 is a blind green on a par three were all that was visible was the top of the flag. The course was in good shape for city with limited funds. Hackers, Bring lots of balls!
Pretty nice course.. just not so organized.. people playing whichever hole they like in no order..tee time was at 330.. played the front nine nice and smooth.. then the back 9 there was a league of 60 to jump in. got congested in the evening. But if that wasn't the case it would have been great.. the course itself is nice and challenging.
some very tough holes but very well taken care of
l love the course, had a great deal of fun think how I was going to play the different holes, Putting on the sloped greens was great. The traps needed to be work-up but you could still play out of them; most courses in the area you can not play out of.
Great natural aesthetics!
While I enjoyed the course's natural aesthetics it also caused me to lose several balls in that natural forestry.
Great Fun Course
Fun course, friendly and helpful staff. A few easier holes and a few harder ones. Some short part 4's, so it does slow down a bit on the last few holes.
Inner City Golfing Gem
The "Rouge" is a delight to play. The Rouge River meanders through the course layout providing anything but an inner city experience. Magestic Old trees, elevation changes, abundant water hazards, sand bunkers, tree lined fairways, and heather lined fairways provide for a challenging and interesting layout. I've seen deer, fox and coyote on the course over the couple seasons I've played there. In general the course is always in very playable condition. The personable and friendly course management team does a good job with the resources they have. I would hope for some improvements to cart paths and tee boxes in the relatively near future as they are beginning to show their age.
I highly recommend you play the Rouge Park Golf Course!
I was having a great time until the rain started!
This was a fun course to play on. I had to cut my round short on hole 16 when the torrential rain started, but was having a great time. There are lots of challenging holes and interesting layouts. Most courses I've found in Metro Detroit are all flat, devoid of trees and the holes are on top of each other--not to mention commanding a PREMIUM price because of their location. While this course has parallel holes, they really weren't small and lacking personal space. The elevation changes are great and they use them in ways I've never seen courses use them before. And there are woods! In Detroit! I even saw a deer!
The carts, clubhouse and all the amenities are perfectly fine. Your more uppity golfers would probably automatically give a low score to this course because it's not brand-spanking new and they're not offering super fancy things you'll find in the outer ring suburbs. It's a great course for your blue collar golfer and let's be honest--if you're not going to entertain the idea of golfing at a course in Detroit, the rest of this stuff isn't going to matter. I'm looking forward to going back!
One of my favorites
I've played here 4 times already this year, and would go at any given opportunity. The course atmosphere has been relaxing as well as welcoming staff.
Course layout makes for some pretty fun, interesting holes. Holes with water hazards are tough a lot of the time leaving you to decide on risk/reward options.
All in all this course is great for the price ($32 for 2 people), plays long, scenic, somewhat forgiving for a determined beginner, challenging for experienced golfers.
I'll continue to play here for a long, long time.
In my opinion it's a must play if you live in southeast Michigan, you wont be disappointed!
Excellent, I was able to book and then make a change to my scheduled time. Great thank you.
Still Love This Course
I haven't played this course in 30 years. It's about time I came back since I forgot almost every hole. I love this course and all courses built in the 1920's.
Best in Town
After a great deal of rain in the city, course in great shape!
Rouge Park
Decent course. Staff is friendly, course is nice and price is great. Has amenities for food and drinks. Layout is nice, courses are well taken care of. Shame the neighborhood is not a good area.
Detroit golf
A gem in the city of Detroit. Well managed and great layout for this little beauty sitting of the Plymouth rd and Burt intersect. A most play . Great for all handicaps. Go play it.
Unexpected
Good course condition. Staff saud it was cart path only by 80% of course didnt have a cart path guess it would be more of a 90 degree rule staying towards the side and not the middle. Good course for a beginner not alot of challenging holes
Intriguing course, poor service
Went as a foursome for an 08:40 tee time. There was a threesome one hole in front of us and a threesome who showed up behind us. At hole seven, the course manager drives up to tell us we are golfing "way too slow" and "the group ahead of you is now TWO holes ahead." This was repeated three or four times before he left to direct the threesome behind us to skip hole eight so they can pass us, when we planned to sit back and let them do so anyway at the turn. It should be no surprise that groups of three move faster than groups of four, and both groups were curious as to why it was such a concern of the manager. The course itself is challenging and has a lot of nice features, but being hounded for not keeping up with smaller groups made the experience less enjoyable.
Not managed properly
No carts left. 30min wait in 1st hole. Not in great shape.
Cool layout
Very neat course with great layout! There are some real interesting couple holes. Best course right in the Detroit area I have played. Pretty challenging for 6400 from the tips.
