East at Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort
About
Gull Lake View Golf Club, southwest Michigan's oldest and largest golf resort, offers five scenic championship courses that play across Michigan's beautiful lake region. Gull Lake View East is the second of the five courses at the club. Opened in 1973, the golf course has a classic design that has a longstanding reputation of being one of Michigan's finest layouts. Charles Scott, who designed several courses in the area including most of Gull Lake's, designed the course. He carefully incorporated the natural terrain, utilizing the elevation changes and natural water features. Water comes into play on 10 holes and the undulating greens rarely provide a flat lie. Accuracy and careful shot placement are a necessity. Gull Lake is conveniently located within three hours of Detroit, Toledo, and Chicago and it is only about an hour from Grand Rapids and Lansing.

Nice course, nice people
Everyone at the course was friendly and accommodating. In addition, the course was in great shape and was fun to play. I wasn't much of a fan of the back nine, as there were a bunch of really short par 4s that seemed to be kind of wedged in.
But for the price, I would definitely play here again! It's a part of a nice number of courses in the Gull Lake area that are worth playing.
First time player here. (east)
We played at 9:18 and played behind a very slow foursome. The sad part was if they didn't like their tee shot they would tee off again. spent way to much time looking for lost balls in woods, water and next fairway over. We also had very bad beverage cart service. She served us at the eighth hole and we never saw her again the rest of our eighteen.I do have to say that our server in the clubhouse was very good.
Tight with Stagnant Water
I played the East course for the first time with a foursome this past Sunday. The elevation changes were nice, but I have never seen more stagnant water on any course in Michigan. I was also surprised how tight one hole is to the next...you almost always see players on as many as three holes while you are playing. Another surprise was the shortness of the course. You really only need to use your driver a couple times the entire 18 holes, but you better be able to hit spots and landing areas with your irons!
Beautiful course
Great course, staff really go above and beyond to make your round the best you've ever played
Would play course again
Course was in good shape, it's fairly open, but narrows on the back and water comes into play. there are lots of raised tees and greens. the club house was nice with a big restaurant and pro shop.
No bag or cart person, and pace of play was slow, waiting on most every hole.
Hills up and down, side slopes to test all skills.
Be sure to play the golf tees for your skill level. The golf course will reward you.
Great course
This course will always throw a curve ball at you. Great challenge for any level of golfer. Love it.
I like this course
I belong to an area course but this is fun change because this is a great layout try it!
best course in southwest michigan
Best course in the area. It's always a fast pace and people know golf etiquette. 3 groups let me play through.
Pure Pleasure
First time on this course was both challenging and fun... and then challenging and not-so-fun. Not the course's fault... it was flawless! GLV provides a yardage and tips card along with the score card... USE IT! It's very accurate and will alert you of possible obstacles along the way! Proved to be VERY helpful (I was playing 3 other guys who were very familiar with the course...). Greens were moderate speed but in great shape (late Sat afternoon). REAL SAND...!, and the fairways were well manicured as was the rough. Beautiful course, set-up, and operation... as usual for this family of courses. Had a great time, can't wait to get back...! Staff was awesome!!
Amazing design
The course was in pristine condition. And the staff was very friendly and helpful. Kudos to your starter.
My Son and I had a great Father's Day , Thank you
This is a great course!!
It will get much better later on. Grass needs to grow. Mowing needs to be done
Beautiful setting
Course was in very good condition! Staff made us feel welcomed and appreciated..we will definitely return
Worth at least one visit.
We drove from Grand Rapids to check out the East course having never been to any of the Gull Lakeview courses. Golfing in late September we went without high expectations on maintenance. It wasn't as pristine as I was personally expecting but was overall in very great shape, especially this time of year. Some very beautiful holes. The course is very short (we are all long off the tee and almost drove a couple holes) but the greens are quite challenging with patience going into each putt. The back 9 has quite a few narrow fairways (trees everywhere), 90 degree doglegs and several small ponds that come into play. You cannot choose driver and simply swing away; thought must be put into club choice for the best setup on the next shot. The challenge more than makes up for the overall course distance.
Beautiful course
The course is very pretty, not real long from the whites but you better hit it straight. Almost like being up north in lower Michigan.
Nice parkland style golf course with some elevation features
Played on a Sunday afternoon on a great day. Light winds, low 70's temperatures and great lay out. This course is on the challenging side due to the tree lined fairways but unlike many courses in this area if you did hit one in the trees you could find the ball as there is grassy areas under the trees which was mowed and fair to play from.
We played from the white tees ( I think it was about 5700 yards) and there were many par 4's that were under 350 yards, but they had dog legs and it requires good distance control. Most approach shots were played from 100-120 yards out as long as you find the fairway with your tee shot.
The course and greens were in good shape and there were quite a few greens with nice undulations but the pins were located in accessible locations.
If you like target golf with a few blind tee shots coupled with some elevated tee boxes and greens you will love this layout.
I have also played the west course (which is a little longer) but what this lacks in length makes up for in course design.
Fun track - will definitely play again!
great course for the money
Always a pleasure to play any of the 5 GLV courses-good conditions, challenging holes-only need to get the beverage cart girl out earlier.......
Cant beat the price.
For the 15 dollar hot deal rate, you can't go wrong. I played in the 7:04 AM slot and maintenance was still out on the course, but made sure to be quiet. Course was very well maintained.
Beautiful course, but short and slow play.
The course from the whites is ~5,600 yds, so it plays a little on the short side. Some of the holes were fairly challenging requiring precise lay ups to have shots into the greens. Overall the course was very short, hitting a 7 iron off tee on some par 4's. I don't crush my driver so it suited my game well.
Frustrating was the pace of play. They booked an outing for the morning and continued to send out 4 somes of ladies every 9 minutes after. That requires a 3.5 hour rate of play, which not many 4-somes can pull off, even/especially with an outing in front of you. We were a 2-some, so that made it seem worse, but on many holes there were 2-3 groups waiting to tee off, with no ranger to be seen.
