Twin Birch Golf Club

About
The beautiful setting of Twin Birch Golf Club in Kalkaska features stands of red pine and birch trees lining the fairways and the Boardman River, which winds its way all throughout the course. The golf course is mostly flat with the exception of a few raised greens on the back nine. The greens on the front nine are level with open fronts, inviting players to attach the flags. There are ample landing zones along the tree-lined fairways, making Twin Birch a golf course that will appeal to beginners and high handicappers but there are still challenges in store for the more advanced golfers as well. Some of the doglegs holes can be quite tricky. There are also several strategically placed bunkers lurking along some of the greensides and water comes into play on eight holes.

Forget about all the overpriced and overbooked up north resorts. This is a great course that is challenging yet still fair. Very well maintained and a great value.
Golf weekend getaway
Had to provide proof of payment at check in. Clubhouse is new and plenty of room. Restaurant looked good, but did not eat there. We had a beautiful day of golf!
a fun day at the course
I enjoyed the round. I beat the rain. People let me play through. I lost balls on two of the usual three challenging holes. I really appreciate this course and the staff who work here. The new restaurant is really good.
Very nice local course
A nice course to play.
The greens were in very good shape.
Seemed like a slow day following players in front of us but completed 18 holes in less than 4.5 hours.
Scenic and serene basic golf friendly course
We enjoyed our round on Twin Birch and thought the greens were in fabulous shape. The first 9 is rather flat but scenic and quiet with a woodsy feel. The second 9 was a little more challenging with better elevations. We had no problems with pace of play. We loved the outside patio for the restaurant and enjoyed the happy hour and appetizers. We will be back to enjoy lunch or dinner there on our next trip up north. The price was fair to play and we really enjoyed ourselves without experiencing frustration for really difficult holes. Thank you!
Amazing value
Very adequate course conditions, especially for the price. Need to hit the ball straight and find fairways. Good to know or look up hole designs because there is some mandatory lay-ups. Ply moved great and staff was friendly. FOOD SLAPS HARD! Highly recommend. Overall exceeds expectations for the price and grab some food after the round
a little too narrow at times, be prepared to hit plenty of punch shots. the greens were rolling particularly well considering how many trees are on the property. The most frustrating stretch is about holes 12-15 where the holes are really lined by trees. There are even a few tee shots from encroaching branches are in the way.
horrible
When we first got into the clubhouse to check in, we didn't feel welcomed. The lady at the front desk had an attitude and we didn't know why, so we shrugged it off and went to n. After a while, he kept coming back, telling us we can’t be on this side of the course even though we were in the woods where there were tire marks (it looked like people have BEEN driving there for a while now). He then proceeded to keep coming up to us after every hole, and we felt uncomfortable. At the 9th hole, my drive went near the parking lot, so I drove my cart all the way on the right side to keep away from the green since at this point the ranger told us to not be near the green (even though we were in the woods). The front desk lady came running out SCREAMING at us to not be there and showed us a sign that said “I’m sorry about that thank you”. We went to the bathroom after the 9th hole and came out for the 10th. I shot my first shot, and it went into the woods, so I took another ball out. As I was doing that, I’m pretty sure the owner came out and told us not to shoot 2 because they were very busy (I didn’t see anyone behind us or in front of us). I said I’m sorry and dropped on the green. We drove down to the green, and the ranger was waiting for us there again! We putted, and while we were walking back to our cart, he waved his hands like he was telling us to hurry up, and he indeed said “let’s go hurry up”. At this point, we were pretty annoyed and confronted the ranger asking what we were doing wrong and why he was following us. He told us that they had complaints of us taking too long and driving the cart where we weren't supposed to. He also said we should’ve gone to the driving range and learned to play golf before we started. (I’ve been golfing for a couple of years now; I don’t see a reason why I need to learn golf.)We were very confused at this point because I guess we drove where we weren't supposed to accidentally two times. And we were slow because we also had people in front of us and behind us from the start of hole 1 to hole 9.He proceeded to kick us out of the course and threaten to call the cops on us. We asked for a refund since we bought 18 holes and only did 9; he said, “No! You think the owner would give you a refund?!” Leaving the course, there was still nobody behind us or waiting for us :)I have NEVER seen this type of behavior from a course. I felt stalked, uncomfortable, and rushed throughout this whole time here. I would never recommend this course to anyone.

Beautiful Course
Try to get at least one round when we spend our week at Shanty Creek. The course is pathetically appealing and offer a fair challenge. The new club house is fantastic.
Still a Favorite
I just reviewed this course. I really enjoy playing it. The only problem was a couple that did not let me play through. So, I skipped that hole and went ahead when the next duo let me play through. I like to play fast.
I should also mention the restaurant. I had a fabulous cheeseburger at a very reasonable price. The service was friendly.
fabulous golf
I played here a lot two years ago when the new building was under construction. I was gone often last year and didn't play. I am so favorably impressed by this course. The greens are flawless and the fairways almost perfect. Two holes were golf ball gobblers, but I had not played in a year. This course is also very beautiful. The birds are singing as you travel the course. The paths were a bit rough, with debris. What you also notice is the maintenance staff all around keeping the course tiptop. This is still favorite place to play, even with the 45 minutes each way.
Great course. Will be back.
First time playing this course. Greens were great. Nice layout. Great staff. Bringing golf group back next fall
