Metamora Golf & Country Club
About
Metamora Golf & Country Club is a championship course located in the northern suburbs of Detroit. The parkland layout has a beautifully rolling terrain that provides dramatic elevation changes throughout. The course has a balance of excellent shot values and interesting challenges that will appeal to players of all skill levels. The greens can be especially tricky since they are fast, undulating, and often putt downhill. There are numerous bunkers lurking around the greens and water hazards come into play on nearly every hole, 16 to be exact. Proper club selection and accurate shot placement will be generously rewarded but the golf course is not overly punishing if you're a little off your game. The signature hole is the par-5 third, which requires an approach shot to an island green.

Shot selection/play smart
Really enjoyed and will have to play again...really nice course but wish I could have played with someone who knew the course.
An extremely undulating test of golf.
I've heard good things about this course from a few friends, and finally decided to try it out. If I'm going out that way, I usually stop at Boulder Pointe (which is a great track), but this was a very pleasant surprise. They sent us off of #10, and my first impression standing on the "first" tee: WOW! I'm probably biased in saying this, because it was my first experience playing this course, but I truly think the nines should be switched because the view from the 10th tee is like a dream and deserves to be your first impression of the course. Huge sightlines of most of the (very undulating) holes of the back nine, and even a few miles past. Like an "up-north" feel combined with rolling hills like something you'd find in the southern states. Speaking of which, I'd have to compare this to Augusta National in terms of the degree of undulation and slopes. Words/pictures really don't do them justice until you see them first-hand. Other than that, the course is difficult, but not unfairly so. I fortunately had my "A-game" and hit a personal best of 15/18 GIR, with only 7/14 FW. My point, even if you're in trouble off the tee, you still have a solid chance of hitting the greens with not many trees obstructing your view of the green. That being said, you have to give all your focus on hitting solid tee shots, and making sure to play away/around the trouble (lakes, in particular). Now, the greens... I hit 15 of them in reg, but only made 2 birdies. I felt like I was putting rather well with good speed control, but the greens are just pretty speedy and have a lot of break. Hard enough just to make a 4-5ft par save, let alone anything over 15-20ft, which you'll get a lot of even if you're hitting good shots. Play twice as much break as you think most of the time. All in all, a very stern yet fair test of golf that's probably as much of an Augusta National replica as you'll find here in MI. In terms of undulation, at least. Enjoy the views!
Target golf
course design is for an above average golfer. A lot of target shooting with tough pin placements . Average golfer must manage the course properly and stay away from the hazards.
May need extra golf balls
Challenging course where you need to be in the correct position. Helps if you hit it straight! Try to be below the hole for your putts.
Semi Private course that current members can't let go that it was a private club years back.
Unbearably slow. Lots of blind shots so the group ahead of us were having a challenging time. Members behind us pressed us every hole. Almost was hit in fairway waiting on 18 for the group ahead to finish on the green. Members behind us had no respect for any rules and hit up on us every hole. First par 3 was a backup on the tee box. I took this opportunity to let the Group of Members behind us know we are waiting on every tee the same as they are so please use some patience. Next hole we got hit up on again. I really liked the course layout but I found the greens to be a bit shaggy and pin placement for a Thursday round were not very fair. A couple gimmicky holes that were challenging for our first time on the course. Nothing worse than hitting up a hill and not knowing were your landing area is. Usually we would "motor up" the hill to see the hole but the group behind us was pushing us so hard that this was not possible.
Again I enjoyed the course layout but the members and the staff left me shaking my head.
2 1/2 stars
Also make sure your cart has gas in it before you tee off. We made it to the third hole and our cart died.
lot's of water
course has great character - several over water holes.
course knowledge is a must for position play.
The course was in great shape.
My husband and I played as a twosome. The pace of play was excellent. We didn't have to wait at any time for our next shot. The course was in beautiful shape and as always very challenging.
A Must Play!
Awesome course, lots of hills and water. I found the greens to be a little fast and challenging. You have to play smart here to score well. Many blind approach shots. I look forward to playing it again.
Outstanding conditions
Great conditions great value will definitely go back
very upscale
very well kept ,I THINK THAT YOU WOULD HAVE TO PLAY THIS COURSE MORE THAN ONCE BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF BLIND HOLES AND NOT TOO MANY YARDAGE MARKERS OTHER THAN THE 150S. THAT AND THE COURSE SEEMS TO BE WINDY A LOT OF THE TIME.VERY PRETTY
great experience all-around
Course was interesting, challenging, and in excellent condition.
challenging course
Course offers a lot of greens protected by water, some wooded holes, some wide open holes and pretty fast greens.
Great Course
Challenging course mainly due to the many blind tee shots and several water hazards that need to be carried on approach shots. Unless you have a good GPS, placement of your tee and layups can be challenging and could lead to slow play.
Tricky Tricky
After hearing about this course for years I finally got to play it last weekend. This course lived up to all the hype. Even in late October it was in great shape. The staff members were great as well. Very challenging for someone like myself. There are a few holes that require some very accurate shot placement. I will return in the spring and play it again.
A very challenging course.
This course has water everywhere and a rolling terrain. It challenges the player to make 2 consecutive good shots to reach the green, where the breaks are compound and fast too.
GREAT TRACK IN EXCELLENT CONDITION
I HAVE PLAYED THIS COURSE BEFORE AND FIND IT A GREAT TRACK AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITON EACH TIME I RETURN. THE STAFF IS VERY FRIENDLY.
Fantastic Course
It is a definitely challenging course, and definitely more enjoyable for the lower handicapper. The maintenance crew does a fantastic job keeping the greens in near pristine conditions all year round. I play this course on a regular basis, and not once has it disappointed. I only wish this course was more East, closer to home.
If you haven't had the chance to play this course yet, you have been missing out.
Metamora is one of my favorite courses. Excellent greens. Always in great condition.
Our foursome enjoyed our round at Metamora as usual. The course was still a little soft due the recent rains, but was still in very good shape. I look forward to returning soon.
Great Day
Excellent Fall Golf in Michigan! Fairways had a good feel and the greens were in great shape. Took a country club member from Oakhurst there and he really enjoyed the course.
greeat finishing holes...
Great layout..hard but fair..could play this course every day..
