Fun course. Classic beer league course but people were super nice and it played at a good pace. Fun to play
Deceptively Difficult!
Seeing the scorecard and length of the course you might think this an easy course, but in my opinion the course slope rating isn’t correct.I would rate this course from the tips as a high 120’s slope or possibly low 130’s. There are many water hazards and tight fairways bordered by woods on each side on many holes. Also, you need to know yardages to corner doglegs or you may not advance enough to have a clear shot at a green. That was my only complaint, the scorecard and the yardage signs on the tee boxes didn’t correspond to one another on quite a few holes. The greens are also fairly undulating, so it makes for some tough putts, especially if they are drier I would imagine, although they were rather slow the day we went.
You get what you pay for
Grass growing in the bunkers, couple dead spots on the greens, lack of grass on the tee boxes. However, it feels like Augusta after you pay $22 for 18. It’s not immaculate conditions by any means, but it gets the job done, and feels like a welcoming place. It’s my go to course for cheap golf.
Regular Customer!
Always try to get a round in at least every two weeks at Downing Farms. Very Nice course with a courteous staff!!
Hidden Gem
I want to start this review by saying, this golf course is fun! For the value, you can't ask for much more. Each hole presents its own challenge without having anything too challenging. There are a couple holes you need to play smarter, like the par 3 on hole 15, where you are on an elevated tee box and if you hit it too long, your ball is rolling into or finding water. The fairways and greens were well kept, and this was at the end of March, so I didn't expect a lot but was pleasantly surprised. Staff was friendly, has a chipping and putting practice area. Not a lot to the club house, I believe just basic food and drink if you want, but we didn't stop at the turn this time around. I only have one complaint, on the 8th hole, if you are playing the whites or blues, you have to tee off a "fake" tee box that is built on a wooden platform. There is like a turf that you can sort of stick a short tee into, but it does limit how you can tee off on that hole. It is a Par 4, and I would have liked to hit a driver but I couldn't get a tee to the right high on that turf. I recommend this course as it is a fun time and promotes you to play smarter, not harder.
Nice course
Nice course, will continue playing here as I have been for the last 7 years. But they NEED to fix the holes around the cart paths on many holes. The same holes have been there for 7 years and it’s such an easy fix. Same for the holes in the cart path, they need gravel shoveled in throughout. Sounds like an easy job to spread out over the course of a season and I’m bewildered as to why it’s never been done
Downing Farms
I did not go. I was not able to because of work. I tried to cancel on GolfNow but it would not allow me to. Then I tried to call the golf course and the phone call went to voicemail and said that their voicemail box was full. Very disappointed.
Decent Course
Decent course but I’m frustrated with how my booking went. Got a “Hot Deal” on GolfNow. We paid $15.99 for 18 holes and carts to be included. When we got there they made us pay for carts and only let us play 9 holes. I would have booked somewhere else if I knew they weren’t going to honor our booking. Now sure of this is a Golf Now issue or course issue
Interesting layout
Interesting albeit short course. Nice topography and nicely off the beaten path. Will definitely be back!
