Myth Golf & Banquet - Regulation Course
About
The Myth Golf & Banquet, formerly known as Beaver Creek, tumbles across rolling hills. Situated next to Lake Orion, the golf course sits on protected land that is home to an abundance of wildlife, including sandhill cranes. There is both an 18-hole championship course and a nine-hole par-3 course. In 2007, when the Myth was established, several improvements were made to the championship layout, improving its conditions and making it more challenging. The scenic golf course features boardwalk cart paths that cut through beautiful pine forests. Don't get too distracted by the scenery though because there is plenty to keep you busy including multi-tiered greens and water hazards on almost every hole. The 13th is the golf course's signature hole. This par 3 plays from an elevated tee over water to a generous green, offering a great opportunity for a birdie.

Hole 13, fun par 3 Photo submitted by Tait2dn on 05/09/2013
Journey through Wetlands
The Myth is a nice shortish course that winds through forests and wetlands. The course is fair with plenty of holes which you can score. The par 3's are long and #15 is especially long with a tee shot through a tight window & a forced carry over a pond all the way to the green, tough hole! The greens were nice but slow. AND please, can people repair their ball marks on the greens! There must have been 50+ ball marks on each green that weren't repaired.
Overall, it's a nice course and I'd probably play it again.
Nice place to practice
This course is a fantastic value, not because of how much you get for the $ but because it is absolutely the least expensive course I've found that isn't a dog track.
Tee boxes are generally uneven, un-level, and often sparsely grassed.
Fairways are very tight and trees encroach on nearly all holes. Fairway condition is probably the best asset.
Greens could be great but never tightly mown. Very slow and shaggy.
Bunkers are rarely raked and machine tilled and therefore play like hard pan.
Always check to see if there are leagues before booking as I've been behind a league several time and witnessed fivesomes playing regularly.
What I like about the course is that it is extremely challenging for a short golf course, some of the holes are borderline unfair with their difficulty. If you can score here you are playing great golf!
Early 'birdie' gets the worm!
The Myth Golf Course was recently in the news via vandalism to their carts. Why would anyone want to do this when the course, the staff, and overall friendly atmosphere is spectacular here?
It was my first time playing the course. It was 90 degrees when I ended my round (started early around 7:30a). But, if given the chance I would've made another turn and done a second 18-holes.
I will surely be back as the course layout is challenging to the sense of bringing EVERY club out of your bag. It's great not having to hit driver off every hole! There is some distance, but for the most part it's a shorter course. I love the L-shaped holes that really challenge you for par. Some are more forgiving (the ones I birdied) with almost drive-able greens.
I do have a couple cons, but they're out of the course's control really... it had rained the night before and there were a few standing water spots, but hence a free drop. And the second would be the maintenance by the people that play - FIX YOUR DIVOTS! The greens are accommodating to the average player who hits a wedge and sticks it with some back spin.
100% worth my time, 100% worth a look, 100% great cost for what you get... 2016, I'm looking into a membership for sure!
I hope you enjoy it as well and cheers, Vargo, for keeping a great course open to the public and in the best shape you can!
This course is in excellent condition.
It was my 1st time playing Myth. The golf course conditions were excellent, staff was very friendly, and play pace was good. Beautiful wetlands and wildlife. Some of the par-4 holes are not set up for driver, so you want to get to know the course to perfect a strategy. Overall, very nice experience!
Average golfer? Don't play here.
Narrow fairways and a lot of obstacles. Very challenging. Do not play here unless you are good, have plenty of golf balls, and don't get frustrated very easily. Although the deal is good, the amount of balls I lost cancelled out the cost of the round.
Narrow tee shots
Some tee shots have to be long and straight to score. Lots of bumps on bridges between holes, you will spill your beverage. I'll be back.
Great place
Was a really busy day, everyone was really nice but the grumpy ranger driving around the course not saying a word to anyone just staring. But really really well set up course very challenging and the drives between holes are like nothing you've ever seen before with all the wood planks, very cool.
Myth revisited
I just enjoy the course. No easy holes. Only problem is the course is a bit squeezed. Several times we waited because people had hit there balls on our fairway. This is the only problem that I could think of.Lots of hills. One fairway is about 15 yds wide.Accuracy counts more than distance.
Ok course to get out and hit.
Tee boxes need some work. Tee box in 5 is a wreck. But if you're looking to get in 9 after work decent value to work on your game.
Myth Golf Course
Decided to try The Myth after a few friends told me to play there. Thought the course was quite challenging, enjoyed playing hole 13. I recommed bring a few extra balls because if you don't hit it on the fairways, your not going to find your balls. The course was kept up expect for the wooden bridges they have to get to the other holes. They were in bad shape and seemed they were about to collapse at any minute. I played during memorial weekend and had to wait at each hole because it was so packed. Overall, I would go back, seemed to be a good value and a fun challenge!
Reminded me of Cedar Point
About half the course is through swamp area, requiring riding on old wooden bridges for most of the paths through the first nine holes. The bridges were being worked on, but could probably use some investment in making them more permanent. Hold your beer in your hand... Course wasn't too difficult, but a bit narrow at times. If you spray the ball, this might not be the best place for you.
Hit or Myth
I have been to this course before and I heard of the recent vandalism to the carts at this location. However, I wasn't expecting that they would be charging mid-season rates for a course that is in such disrepair. The fairways were burned out in many spots of the course. The irrigation system was not functioning properly. There were excavation holes in nearly all of the fairways. The wooden bridges that you must drive your cart on from hole to hole are in need of serious maintenance. The greens were not manicured and many had week old goose excrement on them. I called the clubhouse while on 16 to let them know that the complete irrigation housing was laying in the middle of the fairway and water was flooding the fairway completely. Water was shooting in the air like a geyser. They told me that it's okay. The irrigation maintenance crew was just doing their annual spring checks. I let them know that this wasn't a check. They were actually flooding their golf course. This golf course has been good in the past, but that is not the case right now...not at all.
Target golf
Always bring extra balls. You have to keep it in the tight fairways or its gone. Overall the course is in good shape.
Rough
Went Sunday and made the turn around 11:30 and there was no hot dogs or anything but love the course, very challenging
Nice course but it's difficult to get around.
A very nice facility. Friendly staff. Hole are connect by several wood boardwalks that are in dire need of repair!
Challenging & Scenic
The greens are awesome with many undulations, Par3 are long, Par 5's are challenging. Some par 4s are long 400 plus yards. Every hole has water or swamp to deal with from tee to green. One needs to play with strategy. The cart paths are wooden platform, rattling, but didn't bother me as the course fairways and greens are well maintained. This is a great course
The Myth
Played the course about the same time last year. Better shape this time but still needs TLC. Tee boxes are horrible...weeds, mud, uneven. Every ball cleaner smelled like rotten eggs. Some interesting holes but some are rather gimmicky. Not terribly long but you do get the opportunity to play most of your clubs. I agree with a few of the previous reviewers...the yardages on some of the holes don't sync up with map, card, signs. The greens are the most challenging aspect of the course (aside from bouncing up and down riding the "charming" wooden cart paths), good condition but the pin placements the day I played were impossible. I'm a good putter but was punished numerous times for good approach shots with 2 and 3 putts...one 4 because of pin placements and putts barely tapped rolling off the green. The GC must have thought it was Sunday at Augusta. The mark of a good course is playability for all handicaps, challenging but fair if you hit good shots and putt better than a beginner, and making you think, not scratching your head. The Myth has potential but hardly "nothing short of spectacular" as their webpage claims. I would play again and recommend but only at a "real Hot Deal" price.
narrow fairways, super tuff pin placement, very fast greens
Unless you hit every shot straight bring extra balls. The greens are very tuff to judge and the pin placements were as about as difficult as they could be. Normally course plays faster but there was a big outing in front of me which I knew before hand and new I was going to have a long round. Burgers were awesome and reasonably priced and the staff was good.
This course wes very challenging.
The course needed to be updated and better maintained. I had not played in over 10 years and was much better in the past. The current owners have ran the course down and is obviously not putting any money into the course.
bang for your buck!
Definitely a good value for $30! Reminds me a bit of a city course. Some holes seemed to barely fit in, some wasted space in terms of tee boxes. Tee boxes were rough! A bit muddy and grass was too long on the tee box.
