The East at Forest Akers Golf Course

About
Forest Akers' East and West Courses are the home courses for the Michigan State University's men's and women's golf teams. The West Course is the longer and tougher of the two, but the East Course has plenty of challenges in store as well. Forest Akers East was redesigned in 1997, which converted it from a par 71 to a par-72 layout. New trees were planted and several bunkers were also added. The generous fairways are wide open and the golf course offers a few opportunities for birdies. If you're looking for a formidable round, the West Course is more what you're looking for, but Forest Akers East is a great option for a quick and fun round. Both golf courses are not only two of Michigan's top public plays, but they are also one of the best golf values in the state.

Reviews
Good day on the course.
there was a nice buzz in the air. There was a junior golf tournament just finishing up. Got right out. No delay. Fun day.
Horrible experience
I was kicked out of a bay at driving range because I was not using the software. The next time, I bought balls because it was raining and they never told me the indoor bays were closed.
I played twillight there last night and they had 3 minutes between tee times. There 4 groups lined up on a hole. My cart died on hole 6 because it was not charged.
This place is beautiful and one of the best practice areas in the area. But it is horribly run.
Pleasant Surprise!
Course and greens were in very good condition. Great range and practice facility. Excellent value.
Nice course!
Course was great - in real good shape. It was busy and had to wait for some holes. Lots of singles and pairs. Greens roll good but tough - lots of tricky putts. Will be back for sure!
Unwilling Golf
I booked Golf for two cart included, when i checked in employee made it clear that GolfNow could not sell and include carts-I showed the employee a screenshot of my confirmation and stated 18 holes cart included
Paid extra 10.00 each for cart that was to be included as cart included no fees paid at course,GolfNow and Forest Akers has it screwed up, he said he couldn’t do anything about it, and threatened to call mgt in ,but said there wouldn’t be anything changed.Akers did nothing to begin to make it right,I head up a group of 12 golfers I will never book again, and I have yet to speak to anyone from GolfNow,only answering machine
Very disappointed with lack of customer service by both the course and golf now, for taking golfers money when they need to manage their site

Great value
Very well maintained course for the price. Fun layout, 3- par 5’s on the back nine.
Great course
This is a really beautiful course. Well maintained, you wouldn’t know you are so close to campus when playing it. Nice wide fairways.
Bad starter
We played the front nine in 2 hours but took almost 3 hours to play the back nine. The slow play was caused by the starter putting groups on any open holes so you always had to wait. When we made the turn there were groups put in front of people making the turn.
Rained On
Enjoyed the course. It is a fair mix of challenging and fun holes. The course was well maintained. I enjoy the great range and very large putting area readily available before the round and after.
College students run the check-in and snack shop. Some are very good and they all seem to try very hard. The outdoor snack facility is conveniently located to the ninth and tenth holes.
Great Fun...Can BOMB it!
I was visiting Michigan and had played the West course two days ago, so wanted to play the easier East course.... And I'm glad that I did. Much much more forgiving and definitely more fun. Not quite in as good a shape as the West course where the MSU college players play (Dottie Pepper being one!), but still just fine. I played Summer golf and didn't get a bad lie for the two days I played the East course. Super nice Ranger and pro shop staff and right next to a wonderful huge driving range. I came from New York with my son to visit my sister who's a professor at MSU and we may just have to make this an annual trip knowing there's such a great facility here to play!!
Great value
Great value. Paid 27$ for 18 holes. Nice course. Friendly staff. Course was in great condition. Will play again
Good Course
Quick pace. Course in pretty good shape. Goose poop on some greens and should be removed by staff. Kind of gross. Mix up with Golfnow app price and what they tried to make me pay when I got there. Handled well by staff though.
Nice course to play
I had a 1:15 tee time on a beautiful Saturday, so I can’t really complain about it being slow. The course layout is nice and it was in pretty good condition. I’ll definitely be going back to play again.
