The East at Forest Akers Golf Course

About
Forest Akers' East and West Courses are the home courses for the Michigan State University's men's and women's golf teams. The West Course is the longer and tougher of the two, but the East Course has plenty of challenges in store as well. Forest Akers East was redesigned in 1997, which converted it from a par 71 to a par-72 layout. New trees were planted and several bunkers were also added. The generous fairways are wide open and the golf course offers a few opportunities for birdies. If you're looking for a formidable round, the West Course is more what you're looking for, but Forest Akers East is a great option for a quick and fun round. Both golf courses are not only two of Michigan's top public plays, but they are also one of the best golf values in the state.

Reviews
Visiting from Texas
This was an absolute treat to play. Greens were in great condition. I love Michigan golf courses.
Good course, but some faults
Multiple tee boxes makes it fun for every length player. Usually in good shape, but with the rain there was flooding in spots. Price for range is high, and they keep a mix of range balls that doesn’t help consistent feel. Some are very old, and come off the face very poorly. Also think their short game range should be open to the public. It isn’t very well maintained, they don’t offer shag bags of more premium balls like others I’ve been to, yet they want $250 per season
Great value
Despite the rainiest spring in forever, Akers east was in great condition, greens were fast and true, the fairways were surprisingly firm in 80-90% of the space (just couldn’t be completely dry given recent monsoon) and the starter routed us around a women’s league expertly so that we played 18 without any wait
Bad condition
Bad condition The course was in terrible condition flooded water smells ,mosquitoes not really happy with Forest Akers right now

Akers never disappoints
Solid course for all levels of players. Course was in great shape and speed of play was good especially considering how busy it was. Finished in just under 4 hrs.
Bang for your buck
Hard to beat the price for the quality and conditions. Fairly open, but, still rewards accuracy. Greens were immaculate, except for all of the unrepaired ball marks.

Hi Rick! Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your positive review is important to us. We will make note and we hope to see you back!
Good Time at Forest Akers East
Greens great, fairways low and even with cloudy/light showers the course was great. Bummed the shop didn't have hot dogs available at the turn though.
Loved it!
An absolutely awesome course! Takes a hole or two to get used to the high quality of the fairways/greens, but that was part of the fun of it. Great layout and scenery. Highly recommend, especially on GolfNow!
Slow
Pace of play was very poor, no beverage cart, nobody working the snack bar at the turn either.
This was a weekend. I understand maybe not having any beverage carts or an open snack bar on a weekday. We were very dissappoonted with our round. Way too many people on the course.
Awesome course, awesome start!
Great staff and perfect conditions until lightening was spotted in the area. Play was suspended and rain checks were distributed. Can't wait to get back!!
Great Course
Well maintained. A joy to play. Not too hard ,not too easy. MSU has great agronomy program and it shows at this course. Condition was excellent . Love it!!
Excellent condition
Fairways and greens are well maintained. Greens are exceptional, good speed and putts roll true. Rough is also well maintained, not heavy so pace of play is good. Tees are at good yardage’s for different abilities. Bring your own soft drinks/water because there was no beverage cart on this Saturday morning round. Hot dogs st the turn were good and staff are friendly.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback in regard to the range to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting The East at Forest Akers Golf Course. We hope to see you again in the future.
