The East at Forest Akers Golf Course

About
Forest Akers' East and West Courses are the home courses for the Michigan State University's men's and women's golf teams. The West Course is the longer and tougher of the two, but the East Course has plenty of challenges in store as well. Forest Akers East was redesigned in 1997, which converted it from a par 71 to a par-72 layout. New trees were planted and several bunkers were also added. The generous fairways are wide open and the golf course offers a few opportunities for birdies. If you're looking for a formidable round, the West Course is more what you're looking for, but Forest Akers East is a great option for a quick and fun round. Both golf courses are not only two of Michigan's top public plays, but they are also one of the best golf values in the state.

Reviews
This course is playable for many levels of golfers.
Very nice course as long as there hasn't been a lot of rain in the area. It can get soggy. Otherwise always in good condition and not a lot of serious trouble to get into. The main drawback for me is being on the campus of Michigan State University, it gets a lot of play from college students that are very high handicappers and play sometimes can be slow without the staff doing much to speed things up.
Awful Experience
Never play this course on a Sunday afternoon. I booked a round for 18 holes and quit after 9 because the pace of play was so slow. It took 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete 9 holes.
Beginner Course
Well maintained course. Good for beginners and people with high handicaps. No beverage cart service.
Slow Play
After arriving to the course 15 minutes prior to my tee time I was concerned with the back up that appeared on the first tee. We didn't end up teeing off until about 15 minutes after we were supposed to and it took 35 minutes to play the first hole. NO RANGER TO BE SEEN. My group wound up skipping 2 holes in order to play at a relatively living pace. What a ridiculous joke, and this wasn't the first time this has happened here. If you end up playing Forrest Acres East, plan on rude people and a 5.5 hour round.
This course was good, the west is more challenging.
great course. friendly staff.
Pretty good value.
Only knock on this course was the unfair pin locations on about half of the greens. Couple times putted and barely missed the hole and ball rolled 10 feet by. Not sure if made locations that tough to compensate for not particularly hard holes.
Very Nice Course
Course in good shape. Finished 18 in less than 4 hours. Good water availability on course. Like the Sparty and Big Ten influence around course.
WEDNESDAY GOLF OUTING
We played Forest Akers east. The course was very pleasant and well taken care of. Everybody in my group enjoyed himself. We will return.
This course was in great condition
We really enjoyed out time there. One of our foursome had never played there and he will be back. with us another time.
Packed but still fun
Went out on Father's Day and they had completely packed the front 9. At one point there were 5 groups on one hole.
There is some sort of construction taking pace that has screwed up one of tee boxes around hole 3. Its hard as a rock and you can barely tee up your shot. Also, there is no beverage service on the course.
That being said I really enjoy the course and play it quite often.
Love this course
Over the years, MSU has continued to improve Akers East. While there is some construction going on in the front nine that makes things a bit of a challenge, the rest of the course is in perfect condition. It was a great day for golf!
Excellent Course
Moderate difficulty, fantastic fairways and greens. Well maintained. Friendly and very professional staff. Great place to golf!
Always in nice shape large fairways big greens
Always in nice shape large fairways big greens
should be better
I would have though MSU known for their turf would have nicer conditions at there course. played the east heard the west was better
East course
Greens were in great shape. We played white tees. Was confusing where some were due to the reconstruction of the majority of the women's tees.
Great Course
I have golfed at Forest Akers numerous times and I keep coming back. It is an enjoyable course with just enough challenge to make it fun, but not too heartbreaking. An average golfer will be taking some putts for birdies make or miss you still had a chance. It is also one of the best values in the area.
Love the course great price
the east of obtaining a tee time was surpassed by the condition of the course and the friendliest of the staff. The course was in excellent shape and the greens were fast but true. The price was a great value I would highly recommend it
Shame on the players!
The people that play the East Course need to learn to repair their ball marks on the greens and rake sand traps. Too bad the players don't take better care of the course.
We are glad you enjoyed the round. The construction is wrapping up and we look to have the course back to 100% soon.
