The East at Forest Akers Golf Course

About
Forest Akers' East and West Courses are the home courses for the Michigan State University's men's and women's golf teams. The West Course is the longer and tougher of the two, but the East Course has plenty of challenges in store as well. Forest Akers East was redesigned in 1997, which converted it from a par 71 to a par-72 layout. New trees were planted and several bunkers were also added. The generous fairways are wide open and the golf course offers a few opportunities for birdies. If you're looking for a formidable round, the West Course is more what you're looking for, but Forest Akers East is a great option for a quick and fun round. Both golf courses are not only two of Michigan's top public plays, but they are also one of the best golf values in the state.

Reviews
Well maintained.
A little wet on a couple holes. Beautiful trees throughout the course. Over all a pleasant course to play.
The only negative was waiting on a slow twosome on most holes, which could happen anywhere.
Lefty’s
Greens and fairways nice-rough has long grass clippings-nice course
Perfect course for an enjoyable round
Great condition! Varied hole designs. Moderate length. Trouble on fairways & greens, but not overly penal.
Midweek round
Foursome on a beautiful day. Mid morning tee time, not a lot of traffic on course resulting in a round little under 4.5 hours. Except for a couple of wet spots it was in good condition. Need to clean up mud pit just beyond short tee box on #3.
Not worth more than 20$
Course has been “under repair” for a few years now, parts of the fairway are roped off. The rough has lots of mud and patchy grass. Not to mention the amount of players they push out, you will be waiting for the players ahead of you for every shot. I would avoid the course on the weekend if you like playing golf in under 4 hours.
Nice Course Early season play
Course is a good track, seems like it is where the college kids play. Even early seemed like greens were beat up (no one repair ball marks). Pace of play here is awful! Did seem like GolfNow was double booking the course on one of the first nicer days but when you have a nice day when you know you're going to get busy it would be smart to have a starter to try and keep things in order. No starter, no organization, was told go off when you get a chance. Pace was not good wish I would have played first thing in the morning. Oh well nice track but won't be back.
Fantastic
Fast green for challenging putting. Excellent price. For being fall not too many fallen leaves. Awesome course.
Anxious to play the East Course...not disappointed!
I had been anxious to play Forest Akers East for some time. After finding a GREAT Hot Deal, my wish was fulfilled. This course is definitely one that we will play again. Water is available to drink in locked containers on the course; fresh and cold! We'll try walking next time we play.
Excellent Greens, and over all course conditions
GREENS, WERE GREAT.
Most of the course was in excellent shape, some patches of fairways has some damage. Like most courses, off course was super hard.
OVER ALL, GREAT!! SUPER VALUE... . we will be back.
Dusappointed
First time golfing course. We were not impressed...staff was courteous but not friendly... we wont golf there again...
Always a great time at Forest Akers
We had a twosome behind us as we began to tee off and let them tee off ahead of us. We saw them for 3 holes and never saw them again. We were never held up, everything was in great shape and the weather couldn't have been better.
Excellent Shape
I've played nice courses all over the US this year and the condition of this East Course is in the top 3.
I am very impressed with the greens and fairways!
Will be back!
Disappointing
Michigan State being one of the top turf management schools in the nation, should strive to keep not only Akers West a showcase, but the East course also. The rough was like a hayfield with mounds of dead grass everywhere. Obviously need to sharpen the mower blades and mow more than once every 10 days. Plenty of patches in the fairways in need of some grass seed also. Too many $20 golf deals in the Mid-Michigan area for courses that are in much better condition than Forest Akers East.
