The East at Forest Akers Golf Course

About
Forest Akers' East and West Courses are the home courses for the Michigan State University's men's and women's golf teams. The West Course is the longer and tougher of the two, but the East Course has plenty of challenges in store as well. Forest Akers East was redesigned in 1997, which converted it from a par 71 to a par-72 layout. New trees were planted and several bunkers were also added. The generous fairways are wide open and the golf course offers a few opportunities for birdies. If you're looking for a formidable round, the West Course is more what you're looking for, but Forest Akers East is a great option for a quick and fun round. Both golf courses are not only two of Michigan's top public plays, but they are also one of the best golf values in the state.

Reviews
Nice course
I enjoy the east course, not hard but challenging. Always good condition and friendly staff.
cool golf
Cool day, so course wasn't crowded. Course was in good shape. Golfnow price was a bargain.

Thanks for the feedback and nice review.
Remember to keep an eye on GolfNow, as we always have great specials going on!
C+/B-
Course was in good shape, although the fairways were kept very long. Greens are fairly slow also. Would return.

Thank you for the feedback, it is greatly appreciated. I did want to let you know, the fairways are not normally as long as they have been. We strive to provide the best conditions in mid-Michigan and will look to improve green speed and playability.
We look forward to your continuing patronage.
Too Much Bird Doo!!
I like Forrest Acres Course, but some of the holes are troublesome to play.......too much bird doo!! It was the first warm days of the season, so it was still a bit soggy and there was also still some winter clean-up to be done. Consider thinning out the geese population.

We are aware of the problem with the Geese waste and are working on fixing it. It is obviously not something we enjoy.
had a good time playing
we had a good round going until the wind started blowing 30 to 40 mph. for the last 16 holes. was going to ask for a wind check. butt didnt.
Enjoyable course
Arrived early and were allowed to get right out. The first three holes went fast and then we slowed way down. Had to wait on each hole. At turn we paired up with twosome in front of us. Found out there was a group in front of us five strong who wet supposed to be 2 and 3. Starter straightened them out , split them up and we moved along pretty well till we finished. This was a great value and the condition of the course was good. Will play this course again.
Terrible Pace of Play
This isn't the first time I've played this course and the following is consistent:
- Staff is young and indifferent
- The course overbooks tee times, therefore making pace of play TORTUROUS. I played Akers West last week and it took 6 hours; 5:30 to play Akers East yesterday
- No beverage cart service

I would like to apologize for your experience at Forest Akers. Slow play is always an issue on the golf course, and we will do a better job to ensure this doesn't happen again. If you would please email us at golfinfo@rhs.msu.edu we would love to send you some passes to come out again and give us another chance.
Forest Akers Management
Not bad
Good course. Not to difficult. Pace of play was slow and the course was jam packed.
In proper drainage as I lost 2 balls after hitting them right in the fairway. Played after a storm the previous day and there was a lot of standing water on a couple of holes.
This course is Primo!
This course suits the eye. Played many municipal courses over the years, but none better than Forest Akers East! Highly recommended it to all skill levels.
Fun golf
A nice golf course at a very reasonable cost in the city of Lansing
Mice course
Nice course. Starter should do a better kob of spacing groups to prevent delays
Fun course to play
Akers East is a nice course to play for just about anyone. It is fairly open, yet challenging. The greens are nice and the course has a great layout and a great practice facility.
Only negative remarks I can make:
1. Pace of play is usually on the slower side
2. No Bev cart (they have a stand at the turn, but no Booze)
Awesome
Great time great course. Very friendly and looking forward to going back
Great course
great course at a great price. meticulous greens, well kept up by MSU, they are the best in the nation at turf management and it shows!!!
Akers East 6/15
Front 9 very slow, but it was Father's day. Pace picked up on the back. Only issue no beer!!!!
Great Golf Course
I enjoyed this course a lot. It was in great condition and had very challenging Par 3's (two over 200 yds). The wind made those a bit tougher i'm sure. There is also more Par 5's too which is fun! I'd say the only thing that could make the course better is more hazards. There isn't much water and only a few sand traps near the greens.
Lovely gem
Really enjoyed the course. Recent heavy rains had reduced the opportunity for conditioning. Very pretty with the blossoms out. Loved the 18th!
Thanks for the nice comments. Always keep an eye on GolfNow, as we constantly post some of the best rates in the state.
