The East at Forest Akers Golf Course
About
Forest Akers' East and West Courses are the home courses for the Michigan State University's men's and women's golf teams. The West Course is the longer and tougher of the two, but the East Course has plenty of challenges in store as well. Forest Akers East was redesigned in 1997, which converted it from a par 71 to a par-72 layout. New trees were planted and several bunkers were also added. The generous fairways are wide open and the golf course offers a few opportunities for birdies. If you're looking for a formidable round, the West Course is more what you're looking for, but Forest Akers East is a great option for a quick and fun round. Both golf courses are not only two of Michigan's top public plays, but they are also one of the best golf values in the state.

Nice Course
Other than it being pretty windy it was a great day to be on the course. Not too challenging, but great for a beginner like me.
great course
This is a nice 18 hole course with a good pace if you have two people. If you have four it seems like some group of two or three are coming up on you all the time. The course is in great condition with some moderate holes to play not are hard. The staff is great and friendly
Great play for the money!
It's early in the golfing year here in Michigan and there was a bit of inconsistency in the greens. Some were way beyond slow while others played as expected. I'm sure this will be corrected as the weather warms and Spring is fully upon us. Good challenge from the black and green tees.
great features and a few water holes and
has some long par 4s and elevated greens, guarded by sand
great course great price
ive booked this course many times, and every booking has gone perfect. the course was--- and is in great shape--- the price was outstanding ( 12 bucks for 18 holes and a cart ) cant get better value than on golfnow--- ill never book a course anywhere else if i can help it
Good location, well maintained, good value.
Nice course and good price for us. We will play here again.
Good course and value
Good course and good value. Hot day so it wast that busy
playable
Big area of ground under repair at #3, #15 and #16 fairway - been that way a long time. Would think a university with a turf mgmt. program would have gotten that right by now. Not a fan of changing 15 to short par 5 (they just moved green and white tees back to the original par 4 tips) and changing 18 from drivable par 4 to mediocre par 3. Greens on course seemed much faster than practice green. Great practice area. Pace of play incredibly slow on front, much better on back. Three groups on tee at #3 unacceptable. College Fields nearby a much better choice for just a couple bucks more.
Slow play on holidays
It was a very good price for 18 but the course did, contrary to staff, over book. When suggested this was the case, the staff defended back with stating all tee times had been on time. No, we were almost 15 late. A good, overall course and a good value, but be prepared for 3 hours a 9 on a holiday.
Worth the 65 mile round trip.
Lush watered fairways. Greens, soft and deceptive to read for this amateur. Cold drinking water available on course at several locations. My foursome is planning a return trip again this Saturday. All for only $26. Snack at turn rather pricey.
Good features
Nice course. Try to get there before leagues, things can get slow if you don't.
Forrest Akers
Decent course for the money. Slow greens. Some course construction.
Forrest acres East
Driving range is great!! Friendly staff. Excited about the change to the course.
cheap course for college students
Greens Are Average For This Price Range... Good Value For The Money. Pretty forving Course Layout While Still Being Fun.. Hopefully They Finish Repairs on 5 And 18 Soon.
Solid MSU Golf Course
Received an excellent deal from Golfnow.com. Highly recommend checking the site before making your golf plans.
Double booked again
Once again the pro shop double booked times and had to play the front twice. This is the SECOND TIME IN TWO TRIES, last time we took a rain check.
Best value in Mid-Michigan
I've been playing this course for years. I played it every day as a high school golfer and still come here for recreation. Staff is always very friendly and attentive, the course is always immaculate, and the design is great. I really like the redesign they're doing now on 3, 15, and 18. Those were the holes that needed attention before and it's should be great.
Sometimes play can be very slow, but the marshals are attentive and do their best to speed up play. They can't control people that don't belong anywhere near a golf course.
Overall, this course goes head to head with courses 2-3x the price.
Backed up into a league
We booked a twosome at Akers East and play went well on the front nine, but on the back we backed into league play and the second nine dragged a great deal. I guess I thought there weren't leagues going off when we got a 3:16 tee time. I was wrong.
Akers East is a good course, not nearly as daunting as the West course. A nice challenge, not too tight. Two of the holes, one on the front and one back are torn up. 18 amounts to a putt putt hole without the windmill as it's now a Par 3 distance that we skipped since it was so backlogged. It helped to keep our scores down!
Open
It is early in the season, golf course is making changes to a couple. Forest Acres East is a great golf course.
I know its late in the season but.
Forest Acre East course is one I will not play again. I know its late in the season but it was not well kept up. Greens where not in good shape and I know that has alot to do with who plays the course not repairing divots etc.
