Brentwood Golf & Banquet Center in White Lake is conveniently less than an hour from downtown Detroit. The 18-hole layout has two distinctly different designs. The front nine is a wooded trail design with homes lining the fairways while the back nine has a more open, classic Scottish-links layout with fewer trees. There are nearly 40 bunkers situated along the greens and fairways and a variety of marshes, wetlands, and ponds come into play on 13 holes. To make the golf course even more challenging, the strategically placed mounding provides a number of tricky uneven lies from all angles and on nearly every hole. Brentwood's par-5 16th is a particularly memorable hole, featuring a grass hill that is directly in front of the green, almost completely blocking the view of the putting surface on the approach.

Good for variety of player skills

This course is tucked into a neighborhood but fairways are decent width making it reasonably challenging for golfers of all skill levels.

The forward tee boxes take some of the challenge out of the course while the tee boxes at the tips bring a challenge to skilled golfers.

Greens showed signs of recent outings. Golfers nowadays don't seem to know that they're supposed to repair ball marks on the greens. I repaired 3-5 ball marks per green.

There are blind shots which makes it challenging for long-ball hitters to locate their ball. We found many in the woods and in other OB areas.

Prices are a bit high compared to what they used to be but that's inflation for you. The maintenance of the course was decent, albeit we just golfed up north at a facility where the greens fees were higher and there's a drastic diffeerence between fairway maintenance.

Cart paths could use some maintenace. Seems to be an issue at many courses where we go in our area.

It's a nice course and chanes are, if you find yourself on this course for a round, you'll have fun.

My favorite hole is the Par 3 which is set upon a peninsula so each shot travels over water.

Warning. If you don't like having a gallery of loud people standing nearby, there's a banquet facility where wedding parties and other types of parties can be hosted. People from those parties tend to congregate outside making it very noisey for golfers on my favorite hole (the par 3 I mentioned earlier). I don't mind the noise so much but it's pretty obvious that these people don't give a care about golfers. This factor might make some uncomfortable so it's worth mentioning.

Condition was mediocre

Golfers are getting worse in recent years regarding green repair. I must have fixed an average of 5 ball marks per green on our entire 18 holes. There was an absurd amount of putter marks as well as shoe marks all over the greens. Conditions as course maintained them could have been better. Cart paths are similar across Michigan and in need of tendering. Potholes and stumb bumps on cart paths were many. On a couple of holes, the tee boxes weren't well marked so if you didn't know where you were going, it would be easy to not know how to get to the next tee box. Some of the tee locations required walking and there are a couple of blind holes where it's really tough to see where the ball is landing that goes over a wetland areas.

All in all, we enjoy the course but it's definitely been in better condition in the past. The cost has also gone up significantly but that's inflation for you. We don't golf as much as we used to because of high cost and we're more selective about location.

Carts could have used a better scrub down from the prior day's use. Steering wheel was off-center as well which is pretty annoying to drive.

And last but not least, there's nobody guiding parties that are using the facility. On Hole #1, there was a group of 25-30 people standing outside shouting at each other while we were teeing off. It's a good thing I don't get easily distracted and neither does my husband but honestly, they need to be told to keep their voices down while people are teeing off.

Society is really declining any more. I miss the days when people cared.

Great greens, great pace of play. Fix the tee boxes please

Brentwood has greens that are among the best in the area. Roll true and generally pretty quick. The fairways are tight on several holes and it’s definitely a course where good course management and thinking through club selection is important.

Pace of play was fast at 2 hours for 18 with only one or two groups out early in the morning before me.

Biggest issue with the course is the tee boxes. Uneven and worse yet, riddled with deep holes or divots. Fix those and this place becomes excellent all around.

Good in a pinch

Booked this round last minute the night before. Played at 8AM so pace of play was great. Front 9 has some odd holes with sharp turns that make it tough to determine where your ball landed. Back 9 opens up and has some fun holes that challenge long hitters. Overall, there are better courses in the area for $65. Will keep this one on the burner just incase there aren’t openings available going forward.

Fun track

Good challenging layout. Club selection and distance control are key. Undulations on the greens make putts.

Brentwood

Two totally different nines. The front is total target golf and you should keep your driver in the bag the entire 9. The front features two of the worst-designed par 5’s I’ve seen as you’re forced to lay up on your first and second shots. You shouldn’t ever have to keep driver in the bag on a par 5. The back nine is a completely different course from the front, wide open and considerably longer. Pace of play was fantastic, finished in under 4 hours on a Sunday afternoon.

Great par 5

The long par 5 on the back 9 was a spectacular hole. The water on the course was pretty dirty and ugly
