Improvement, but Poor Conditions
It's clear that new ownership is making an effort, and that is much appreciated. The clubhouse is great, and the course was mostly green after a very dry summer.
Unfortunately, the greens and tee boxes were in terrible shape. Whether it's golfer neglect, course neglect, or more likely, a combination of both. The greens were frequently missing large patches of grass and riddled with ball marks. It was rare to have a clean putting line. The tee boxes were completely torn up and it was virtually impossible to have a flat piece of grass to tee up on or two stand on. Divots were not replaced and weeds were omnipresent. The course layout was basic and the carts were very old.
In addition, we were out on the course when a thunderstorm rolled in and the course did not sound the siren for 20 minutes after regular lightning strikes started hitting in the area. We came inside, but it seemed unsafe for those still on the course.
I could see Rolling Meadows turning into a solid value course in the next few years, but it needs a lot of work before I would want to play there again. There are a number of other local courses that provide much better conditions for the price.
Rolling Meadows
Loved the course. Congrats to the grounds crew for the well manicured course. The pace of play was a bit slow but nothing too stressful. Value for this course was outstanding. Crowned greens challenging!
Thanks for the 4-star review atad2! Great to hear you loved the course and were up to the challenge. See you again sometime soon.
17-18
Course is straightforward. What you see is what you get. Had not played here in years but not much has changed and for $10 bucks I can't complain. 17-18 are a couple of the hardest finishing holes I have ever encountered. 200yds from whites with a narrow gap over water on 17 makes it difficult for your average player to par this hole. 18 is just as tough over water with trees protecting right and left with no bailout. note that a number of the greens are inverted saucers and everything will roll off .
Thanks for the 4-star review golfcolo! Glad to hear you were challenged out on the course. We hope you enjoy bringing your A-game back to see us again sometime soon.
Great value for the $$
Played on a Thursday in 3 hours 10 minutes.
Course was in good shape, with friendly active Rangers to keep the play moving. Been very impressed with the improving condition of the course. While the front 9 has few memorable holes, the back 9 is has a 5 hole (11-15)stretch of fun challenging holes.
First time
Pretty short course even from the back tees except for the par threes. Was in good shape . Few hazards so a good place to tune up your game. Staff was friendly and got straight out. Plan to play again and maybe putt a little better on those hilly greens
Pretty nice
Country setting, new owners and a very friendly staff. Golf course layout is nice and very enjoyable. Long par 3's and 4's. Will deff play here again.
Excellent Course! Fantastic Greens!
This was my 4th time visiting Rolling Meadows, and 2nd time visiting this season. It seems like this course gets more beautiful every time i come back and play. The fairways were cut perfectly and the rough was trimmed just enough so you weren't searching for balls all day. The main reasoning behind the 5*s is the conditions of the greens and pace of play. The greens in this course are absolutely fantastic the ball rolls perfectly off of the putter and you can tell that a lot of work has been done to keep these greens in tip top shape. This is one of those courses where it seems like everyone is friendly from staff to the other golfers on the course. Whenever a group was lagging behind they promptly have allowed my group to play through to speed up play. Another great highlight is the driving range right next to the first tee in case you want to take a few breakfast balls before you play. This is a course i will be coming back to for years to come!
Great value
Nice course good greens loved it
Improve
They have put upgrades on this course to help that out with the clubhouse. And I've been playing this course for 20 years
fun course
Always fun to play. Long challenging par 3's New staff working on tee boxes which needed some work
Nice course ! Affordable green fee!
Have played this course for few time. All way booked from Golf Now for low price.
Nice lay out course with long par4 and hard par3.
Very challenging !
Worth Playing!
This is Not a country club but the new ownership is trying their fannys off to make quality changes! The greens used to be the worst part of playing here, now they are outstanding! I WILL come back. Keep up the good work! You and your staff are making a difference!
Excellent Course, Well Maintained
Great course, was fun to play. Not terribly difficult and great for beginners outside of a few challenging holes on the course. Staff and booking was simple and easy. Driving range was convenient and had a pavilion to cook out at after the round.
Outing
Slow pace of play. Backup twice. Played front nine again
Great but slow play
I really enjoyed this course. I shot a personal best. it was fairly easy. However, as a single I got backed up by a bunch of old people on the back 9. The people at front desk were SUPER nice. However, they promised it would be pretty open when I called ahead. She also said, i would be fine by the time I got to the back 9. The back is a little tougher but still not that bad.
Great Value
Rolling Meadows plays harder than the yardage and rustic setting suggest. Excellent value and you can bring your own beverages.
The course is under new ownership and they seem to be investing time and money which is nice. You can bring your own beverages and coolers.
Suggested improvements would be add drinking water to the course and expand menu beyond a hotdog.
Very enjoyable
Had a noon tee time got paired up with three other nice players. A lot of traffic made 18 holes take 4.5 hours. It was alright because it was a great day outside. I will go again.
Nice course with TERRIBLE time issues.
Let me get the positives out of the way first. The course was actually pretty nice! Conditions were good for the most part. Not too challenging, but not boring by any means. It is a course that normally I wouldn't mind playing a few times a year.
But I have neeeever played a course with with such a pace-of-play problem before. I understand that it was a nice sunny Sunday, which of course is gonna bring out more people. But my girlfriend and I were often stacked 2-4 groups deep at the tee boxes. A ranger did come by and ask if we were getting stacked up, and drove forward, but nothing seemed to be solved by it. We were at 2 hours on the course by the time we finished the sixth hole. As much as I enjoy an afternoon on the course, it is almost impossible to play well and enjoy yourself when you're waiting 15-25 minutes to tee off on every hole. I'm not sure what the problem was (I'm guessing twosomes that should've been paired up weren't), but there are too many good/great courses in the area to let that happen.
As much as I thought the course was nice, and the value was good, I can't ever imagine coming back knowing that I could be in for another round like that. I've got a course about a mile from my house, very comparable in conditions and price. Even though I enjoy playing different courses, there is nothing that would lead me to choose to drive 30 minutes to Rolling Meadows. I hope hear that those problems are eventually addressed, because I would like to return someday.
Not bad
6400 yards from the tips. Pretty good shape. I would come again.
Thanks for coming out and trying our course. We do have a few shaded tee boxes and greens, especially on the front 9, that we will be addressing this fall. We hope you will come give us another try this season, hopefully with better weather so you can enjoy the back 9 as well.
